The definition of indirect fire is: the aiming and firing a projectile without relying on a direct line of sight between the gun and its target. By this definition, it is possible to take advantage of the parabolic trajectory of these HTI systems and engage targets partially or completely hidden over a hill. If an obstacle is near enough the max ordinate of the projectile it is possible to strike a target in defilade during if the descending branch of its trajectory is steep enough at that range. This technique can be particular helpful when engaging targets in gentle topography where rolling hills may obscure line of sight.
