The word Yona in Pali and the Prakrits, and the analogue "Yavana" in Sanskrit are words used in the Ancient India to designate Greek speakers. "Yona" and "Yavana" are transliterations of the Greek word for "Ionians" (Homeric Greek: Ἰάoνες, Ancient Greek: *Ἰάϝoνες), who were probably the first Greeks to be known in the East.
The Yavanas are mentioned in the Majjhima Nikaya, in which Gautama Buddha mentions to the Brahman Assalayana the existence of the Kamboja and Yona people who have only two castes, master or slave.
Examples of direct association of these with the Greeks include:
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (also transliterated Caitanya, IAST Caitanya Mahāprabhu; 18 February 1486 – 14 June 1534) was a Bengali spiritual teacher. He is believed by his devotees to be Krishna himself who appeared in the form of His own devotee in order to teach the people of this world the process of Bhakti and how to attain the perfection of life. He is considered as the most merciful manifestation of Krishna. Chaitanya was the proponent for the Vaishnava school of Bhakti yoga (meaning loving devotion to God), based on Bhagavata Purana and Bhagavad Gita. Of various incarnations of Vishnu, he is revered as Krishna, popularised the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra and composed the Siksastakam (eight devotional prayers) in Sanskrit. His followers, Gaudiya Vaishnavas, revere him as a Krishna with the mood and complexion of his source of inspiration Radha.
Chaitanya is sometimes referred to by the names Gauranga or Gaura due to his fair complexion, and Nimai due to his being born underneath a Neem tree. There is no evidence, however, that he was born under a Neem Tree. He was very naughty in his young days. His original name was Vishambhar. He was a brilliant student and Nimai was his nickname. At an early age he became an scholar and opened a school. His teachings helped flourish Bhakti movement in east India, particularly Bengal and Odisha from 16th century onwards.
Yavana or Yona is a community in Hindu history. They are grouped under western countries along with Sindhu, Madra, Kekeya, Gandhara and Kamboja as per the descriptions in the epic Mahabharata. This word is also used in Indian history to indicate Greeks and later Arabs from 7th century AD.

Review Krish's version of the GSK as he presented in his movie with Balakrishna playing the title role. Sai explains how smartly the movie weaved 400 years history in the life span of one GSK - just like A Demetrius represents most of Yavanas and Nagarajuna represents the guruvus during that period, GSK may be representation of set of the kings reigning during the three periods. Some notes here: The movie depicts three periods in the history of Satavahanas, all amalgamated into one role. They are (1) Consolidation of the thirty kings (swords) of Andhra Kudya cities - Srimukhudu (2) Defeat of Demetrius and Greeks (3) Defeat of Nahapana. Andhra region was the manufacturing hub and exported to Roman empire etc. In the movie there was a reason why she said we will go to Kotilingalu, th...
