St. Mary’s Catholic Church in
Palmdale officially celebrated its 125th birthday on Tuesday,
December 8,
2015. One-hundred-twenty-five years ago
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Lancaster became a legal parish within the
Archdiocese of Los Angeles and Palmdale became its mission.
A full house of parishioners packed the church building on
R-4 to welcome
Monsignor Steve Downs,
Bishop Jerry Wilkerson,
Cardinal Roger Mahoney and priests who formerly served in the parish. After the evening mass, a social celebration followed in the hall.
Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford come to congratulate the church on behalf of the entire city council for many ongoing programs that help the entire local community.
“What an honor and privilege for me to represent our community today in this wonderful celebration,” said Ledford. “St. Mary’s Catholic Church has been devoted to the service of God, its fellow men, and the community by giving both guidance and inspiration to its congregation.
