A look at the natural features of the Fire Island Pines and Cherry Grove-
i will show you some of the "downtown" and residential areas of the Fire Island Pines & Cherry Grove, but my Full Fire Island tour video will have more information about the towns themselves.
Location skips around, and my narrations are a little off at some points because i was giving directions for the longer tour video/ You may want to have some music handy to play over this, but there are some great bird and ocean sounds.

This area is similar to Sunken Forest, but not "sunken" and without the large holly forest. These dune shapes and forest are more typical of the 60 mile length of Fire Island, and I thought some people might enjoy seeing this stuff without the extensive tour of the towns and boardwalks. A great walk if you are in the area - go from Sunken Forest to Cherry Grove and then on to the Pines if you have the energy. DO NOT go the reverse- there are far fewer boats at Sunken Forest, and a tiny snack bar with few options. The Pines or Grove both have bars, pizza, and grocery stores!
Some of these scenes will be in my Fire Island tour, but the tour video will be of more interest to people who want to visit Fire Island- or feel like they are here again. In the full video i will explain how to navigate (roughly) and give you an extended look at the houses and business districts.

BACKGROUND- I grew up in Sayville, NY. I make some vague references to this in the film-as a teenager I worked at the Pines Pantry grocery store during the summers of 1989 & 90. I have now lived in Berkeley, CA for over 20 yrs, I go to NY for vacation. My Mom & some friends still live here, and Long Island has real summer unlike the Bay Area. I'm not gay, so why go here, a veritable "gay mecca"? -mainly- The Sayville Ferry serves Sunken Forest, the Pines, and Cherry Grove- so although there are other similar towns on Fire Island, these are the towns i had easy access to. A neighbor offered me the job at the Pantry when i was 15. Working here was great, walking around and enjoying the scenery is even better. There are few comparable settings./ On weekends these towns get crowded, but on weekdays it is very quiet. There are great stores and restaurants, a town on the harbor. boardwalks instead of roads.. Yes, you will see muscled gay dudes in speedos but they have no interest in hassling straight guys and /comedy/ i can tell you Roxana really enjoyed walking around there a couple years ago.// So to me/ For $16 rd trip ferry i can walk the boardwalks, enjoy the architecture, the beach and get out of bland suburbia for a few hours when i visit NY... As a Dreadlock Freak, i get along with people outside "normal" society, and i see these towns as Victory. This is essentially NYC gay folks who wanted a retreat where they were free to be who they are with no hassles. Winning.

BACKGROUND- I grew up in Sayville, NY. I make some vague references to this in the film-as a teenager I worked at the Pines Pantry grocery store during the summers of 1989 & 90. I have now lived in Berkeley, CA for over 20 yrs, I go to NY for vacation. My Mom & some friends still live here, and Long Island has real summer unlike the Bay Area. I'm not gay, so why go here, a veritable "gay mecca"? -mainly- The Sayville Ferry serves Sunken Forest, the Pines, and Cherry Grove- so although there are other similar towns on Fire Island, these are the towns i had easy access to. A neighbor offered me the job at the Pantry when i was 15. Working here was great, walking around and enjoying the scenery is even better. There are few comparable settings./ On weekends these towns get crowded, but on weekdays it is very quiet. There are great stores and restaurants, a town on the harbor. boardwalks instead of roads.. Yes, you will see muscled gay dudes in speedos but they have no interest in hassling straight guys and /comedy/ i can tell you Roxana really enjoyed walking around there a couple years ago.// So to me/ For $16 rd trip ferry i can walk the boardwalks, enjoy the architecture, the beach and get out of bland suburbia for a few hours when i visit NY... As a Dreadlock Freak, i get along with people outside "normal" society, and i see these towns as Victory. This is essentially NYC gay folks who wanted a retreat where they were free to be who they are with no hassles. Winning.

Just as long as there is strong wifi, working from satellite internet in the green sheep filled hills in rural Ireland is hard but easier in Israel where the internet is blazing fast! So far our family has explored 10 countries and two cross country trips in the USA, our girls have spent over 150 hours in airplanes (believe it or not, with less than 1 hour of crying total, I know, too amazing to believe!) and traveling over 7,000 miles by car... including a cross-country trip from Florida to California! Most parents can't imagine a 30 minute car ride!
Our story really began in 2012 when we sold our home in San Diego in 2012 after reading The 4-Hour Work Week http://amzn.to/1X2BRIW, which really encouraged us to not just become digital nomads, but a digital nomad family and since then, we have been living in new locations around the world, let us know if you have ever been to or want to go to, FRANCE: Paris, Nice, Genova. ITALY: Florence , Rome, Castel Gandolfo ,Milan ,Verona. IRELAND: Bantry, Cork, Kinsale, Dingle, Killarney, Cliffs of Moher, Westport. ISRAEL, Tel Aviv Israel, Arad, Jerusalem, Eilat, Tiberias, Zichron Yaakov, Moledet, Eilat, Magal, Haifa, Ariel, Ofra, Gvaot. SPAIN: Barcelona, Tenerife, El Medano and Puerto de la Cruz, the list goes on! It would be so cool to meet someone who has traveled there too!
We don't want to put off living our dreams until some idealistic retirement period, which may or may not come. We want to explore the world now and raise our girls as global citizens. We want to broaden our horizons and collect moments and experiences, rather than things. We are choosing to live a life of freedom and adventure over the commonplace and expected.
