Yale professor Wang Shao Guang said Chinese President Jiang Zemin's hold on power is too well consolidated to be effectively challenged. Professor Wang Shao Guang is a Chinese native who has been following Chinese politics for almost ten years. He believes that President Jiang Zemin is the only Chinese leader today who has broad- based support from the military and other government organizations. Because of his Jiang Zemin's influence -- and the reluctance of other Chinese leaders to upset the stability in China -- Wang predicts there will no significant struggle for power following Deng's passing. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Major power struggle, I don't see any possibility because everybody in the top leadership in today's China understands very well if anybody rocks the boat they all sink. Therefore they have the incentive to keep the stability at the very top, in order to maintain stability in the society at large. So I don't see any major power struggle in the near future." He is the third national level leader to be investigated this year, following Zhou Yongkang and Xu Caihou. Ling Jihua served as the director of the CCP General Office and Youth League Faction as Hu Jintao’s most senior aide. Does his downfall signify that the CCP’s internal power struggles are intensifying? Let’s see today’s story. Ling Jihua serves at the deputy national-level as the vice chairman of the CPPCC, as well as being the head of the United Front Work Department. On Dec. 15, he published an article that was in line with Xi Jinping’s ideas, in the CCP’s political theory periodical, Qiushi—this turned out to be Ling Jihua’s final public appearance in the media. The article didn’t give him safe landing, but seemed to give a foregleam of Ling Jihua’s downfall. On Jun. 19, Jihua’s brother, Ling Zhengce, who served as the vice chairman of Shanxi People's Political Consultative Conference, was investigated on suspicion of committing a serious violation of the law. The officialdom of Shanxi Province—Ling Jihua’s hometown —has had quite a shock over the downfall of senior officials. Jihua’s young brother, Ling Wancheng—alias Wang Cheng— was also repatriated from the U.S. in October; so it was only a matter of time before Ling Jihua was taken down. And as expected, he is now under investigation and expected to be expelled from the Party together with Zhou Yongkang in December. Chen Minghui, Political Commentator: "For now, the most immediate and obvious power struggle is ’anti-corruption’; it seems it’s the most effective way to prevent a comeback, compared to economic or political struggle." Minghui says, to maintain the current political stability, the CCP only has one path—political struggle through removing dissidents, in the name of anti-corruption. Li Shanjian, U.S.-China Independent Commentator: "What’s the true reason for Ling Jihua’s downfall?— I believe it’s far from corruption, because there is no honest and upright official in the communist officialdom." Li Shanjian says, one reason for Jihua’s downfall may be that he has some political dealings with Jiang’s faction in handling the Bo Xilai case, especially after the Ferrari car accident. The mainland’s Caixin website posted on the official microblog: "58-year-old Ling Jihua is the fourth national leader to be officially taken down, within half a year; his career reversed in 2012.” “There are signs that Ling Jihua, Zhou Yongkang and Politburo member Bo Xilai—who was sacked after the Wang Lijun Incident—are alliances.” According to the U.S.’ Wall Street Journal and other foreign media disclosures, Jihua’s son, Ling Gu—alias Wang Ziyun— died in a car accident in a Ferrari on Mar. 18, 2012 in Beijing. On Dec. 22, the Caixin website reported that Ling Jihua had reached an agreement with the political and legal system leaders to cover up the cause of his son’s death; however, an immediate disclosure of this agreement led to a reversal in Jihua’s promising political career. However, this report at Caixin is subsequently deleted. On the eve of the 18th CCP National Congress, Ling Jihua was transferred from the position of office director to become the head of the United Front Work Department. He was also elected as vice chairman of the CPPCC the following year. According to senior reporter Luo Changping, Jihua had organized an underground society, the Xishan Club, in Beijing, consisting of native Shanxi senior officials. The recently sentenced Ding Shumiao, Liu Zhijun and Liu Tienan were all members of the Xishan Club. A winner won't be officially declared until Thursday, but a power struggle over the drafting of a new constitution is already underway. Egypt's Supreme Council of the Armed Forces wants a constitution that will guarantee its power and autonomy in the country. It also wants a broad cross section of the society to write it. How will Christians and other minorities fare? Professor Gabriel Sawma, a Middle East constitutional law expert at Fairleigh Dickson University, said they'll be treated about the same if the army maintains dominance. He said that won't be the case if the Muslim Brotherhood writes the constitution. "You have to remember every single constitution in the Middle East, with the exception of Lebanon and Turkey, every one of them has a provision that says Islamic Sharia is the law of the land," Sawma told CBN News. "And if the direction goes toward the Muslim Brotherhood, then you are talking about a country that is going to be 100 percent Islamic and that would have a grave effect on the minorities, especially the Christians, the Coptic community, as well as the Muslim women in general," he said. A showdown between Islamists and the army over the writing of the constitution may be imminent.

We in today's society, particularly those of us who are men, are obsessed with the idea of strength, because THAT is the only acceptable expression of masculinity in today's society. Of course, men aren't the only ones guilty of this. Yes, strength and power are important. They have a visible effect in the world. However, are most men's obsessive (and often fearful) focus on strength and power an artefact of some higher purpose? Are these men who obsess over strength and power doing so because they're considering a brighter future for both themselves and their fellow human beings? No. Most men obsess over strength and power purely in the interest of self-preservation. Survival. Which is fine, but...what comes afterwards? When are we ever "safe" to drop the fight so that love and beauty can then flow into our realities? My realisation is that most of us live lives fighting and defending ourselves against ghosts. We make strength and invulnerability our priorities at the expense of love, happiness and compassion. We have equated those things to weakness. Through our obsession, we have given life to the very things that we fear: ghosts. However, they aren't real. Fear is all that they are. Yes, strength is important, and there will come a day when we will have to use it. However, it's time to face our fears and to realise when we have been driven by it. The courage to love, enjoy and be vulnerable in spite of the danger of the world as opposed to amassing strength under the shadow of fear:- that is MY definition of true strength.

Splinter – The Turtles' sensei and adoptive father, Splinter is a Japanese mutant rat who learned the ways of ninjutsu from his owner and master, Hamato Yoshi . In the 1987 TV series, Archie Comics series and the 2012 TV series, Splinter was Hamato Yoshi mutated into a humanoid rat instead of being just Yoshi's pet. In the IDW comics, he is Hamato Yoshi reincarnated as a mutated rat. April O'Neil – A former lab assistant to the mad scientist Baxter Stockman, April is the plucky human companion of the Turtles. April first met the Turtles when they saved her from Baxter's Mouser robots. She embarks on many of the Turtles' adventures and aids them by doing the work in public that the Turtles cannot. In the 1987 TV series, Archie Comics series, the subsequent three films & the 2014 film reboot, April was a television news reporter. In the 2007 CGI film (Following the continuity from the original 3 films), she and Casey Jones work for a shipping firm. In the 2012 series, April is a teenager who is rescued by the TMNT and later is given some 'crash courses' in being a ninja by Splinter.

Spanish/Nat President Violeta Chamorro is coming under increasing pressure to prove to the Nicaraguan people as well as the nation's opposition that her administration is still in power. A power struggle over constitutional reforms and an almost stagnant economy have been the catalyst for several weeks of unrest in the Central American nation and calls for Chamorro to step down. These scenes could be of the Nicaragua of the 1980s. But, this is not the Managua of the Sandinistas. It is the Managua of President Violeta Chamorro. Chamorro ended a decade of Sandinista rule when she was democratically elected to the presidency in 1989. Much of what was wrong with Nicaragua was blamed on the Sandinistas. But, in the Nicaragua of the 1990s, not much has changed. SOUNDBITE: (In Spanish) "Yes, there's no work. The majority of our husbands are unemployed.
