Manifesto I Believe that my involvement with the law society through out the end of the last academic year and during this academic year gives me the insight required to run the largest society at UWE and understand the way it works without having to start from scratch. That being said although I understand the way this society works my plan as president would be to fundamentally change the way it runs. My plan as president is that with a devoted committee we can transform the law society into the most inclusive and diverse society. By this i mean a society whose commitment to its students is unrivalled by any other. Academically I plan to use the budget, which I have had the pleasure of organising this year, to make sure that as frequently as is possible guest speakers will be giving lectures and workshops on topics pertinent to the studies of all our members. I also wish to run more academic trips, such as to the University of Bristol or Bath in the hope of bettering inter-university relationships. As well as visits to other universities I hope to run a large trip to the supreme court in London, and maybe even a guided tour of the houses of parliament. Socially, I plan to break from the tradition of only having club nights or pub crawls as socials to be more inclusive to the members of our society who don't drink, or enjoy such nights. That is not to say that these nights will not still run, i just hope to offer fun inclusive alternatives. I also wish to add some routine to the social meetings so people have something to look forward to and a structure so they know when they can meet their fellow members. As for student support I also hope to work closer with the staff to understand the needs and wants of the student body as they understand them so the society can act as a support network for any one who needs it. Personally I believe I am well suited to the position as a well liked Law student who is approachable and has a wide base of friends and colleagues across the course as well as connections in the outside world. A vote for me ensures the smooth transition of the running of this society to an experienced current committee member and a new and inclusive society.
