National Chief Visits Tsartlip First Nation
CENTRAL SAANICH - National Assembly of First Nations Chief Shawn Atleo visited Central Saanich Wednesday.
Tsartlip First Nation Elders invited him to a ceremony at the longhouse to learn more about what lies in the future of the tiny village.
Elders spoke about the Douglas Treaty and the importance of educating First Nation children.
"The Douglas Treaty isn't just for the Saanich people" says National Chief Atleo, "it is for everyone who lives on Southern Vancouver Island."
National Chief Atleo also said supporting education for First Nations is an area all governments need to pay particular attention to.
