NTN trails traverse 3 rivers, 5 creeks and take riders to 7 vistas.
In nearby Ishpeming and Negaunee the Range Area Mountain Bike Association is rapidly signing and mapping its sprawling 43-mile system of classic hand built mountain bike trails in the rugged hills where American iron mining was born: The Marquette Iron Range.
North of the city of Marquette an endless backwoods adventure of rowdy rock rolls and near alpine conditions challenge advanced riders along the spines of the ancient Huron Mountains at places like Harlow Lake, Sugarloaf Mountain, Bareback, McLovin and Top of the World.
In the winter Marquette County grooms and maintains nearly 25 miles of snow singletrack for fat bikes, or snow bikes, as we like to call them. The winter bike trail network is one of the first, and best, in the world.

In English and Finnish
The greatest concentration of Finnish Americans is in Michigan Upper Peninsula.
One of the most puzzling things about The Upper Peninsula is that Finnish-Americans still cherish their roots. The opening of several copper mines in the area brought thousands of Finnish emigrants in the area between 1900 and 1910. The descendants of those early Finns still live in the area and many of them speak Finnish, even though they may have never even visited Finland. Andrea tells me though, that it is a tradition among these Finns to make at least once-in-a-lifetime sojourn to the land of their ancestors. We met local Finnish retirees at Suomi Restaurant in Hancock. They came from various backgrounds, having made their careers in business, civil engineering and farming. They have also kept their forefathers' faiths, whether Lutheran or Laestadian.
Most of the footage was taken at Hancock, Michigan, a city of 4,600 residents on the North shore of Portage Lake. It also has the title of the northernmost City in Michigan. Finnish influence in Hancock is everywhere. One can see it just by walking down its streets. The street signs are both in English and Finnish, and there are Finnish flags in each street corner. I would soon learn, that many of the locals also speak Finnish.

The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is the northern of the two major land masses that make up the U.S. state of Michigan. It is commonly referred to as the Upper Peninsula, the U.P., or Upper Michigan. It is also known as the land "above the Bridge" linking the two peninsulas. The peninsula is bounded on the north by Lake Superior, on the east by the St. Mary's River, on the southeast by Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, and on the southwest by Wisconsin. Based on geographical differences, the peninsula is sometimes divided into the Western Upper Peninsula ("WUP") and Eastern Upper Peninsula ("EUP").
The Upper Peninsula contains 29% of the land area of Michigan but just three percent of its total population. Residents are frequently called Yoopers (derived from "U.P.-ers") and have a strong regional identity. It includes the only counties in the United States where a plurality of residents claim Finnish ancestry. Large numbers of Finnish, Swedish, Danish and Norwegian emigrants came to the Upper Peninsula, especially the Keweenaw Peninsula, to work in the mines, and they stayed on and prospered even after the copper mines closed.

Sufjan Stevens (
/ˈsuːfjɑːn/ SOOF-yahn; born July 1, 1975) is an American singer-songwriter and musician born in Detroit, Michigan. Stevens first began releasing his music on Asthmatic Kitty, a label co-founded with his stepfather, beginning with the 1999 release, A Sun Came. He is best known for his 2005 album, Illinois, which hit number one in the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart, and for the song "Chicago".
Stevens has released albums of varying styles, from the electronica of Enjoy Your Rabbit and the lo-fi folk of Seven Swans to the symphonic instrumentation of Illinois and Christmas-themed Songs for Christmas. Stevens makes use of a variety of instruments, often playing many of them himself on the same recording, and writes music in various time signatures. Though he has repeatedly stated an intent to separate his beliefs from his music, Stevens also freely draws from the Bible and other spiritual traditions, incorporating mystical elements into his music often.
Stevens was born in Detroit and lived there until the age of nine, when his family moved to Petoskey, Michigan. In Petoskey he attended the Petoskey High School, the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy and graduated from Harbor Light Christian School. He went on to attend Hope College in Holland, Michigan and earned a Master of Fine Arts from The New School in New York City.

In English and Finnish The greatest concentration of Finnish Americans is in Michigan Upper Peninsula. One of the most puzzling things about The Upper Peninsula is that Finnish-Americans still cherish their roots. The opening of several copper mines in the area brought thousands of Finnish emigrants in the area between 1900 and 1910. The descendants of those early Finns still live in the area and many of them speak Finnish, even though they may have never even visited Finland. Andrea tells me though, that it is a tradition among these Finns to make at least once-in-a-lifetime sojourn to the land of their ancestors. We met local Finnish retirees at Suomi Restaurant in Hancock. They came from various backgrounds, having made their careers in business, civil engineering and farming. The...

One of the most puzzling things about The Upper Peninsula is that Finnish-Americans still cherish their roots. The opening of several copper mines in the area brought thousands of Finnish emigrants in the area between 1900 and 1910. The descendants of those early Finns still live in the area and many of them speak Finnish, even though they may have never even visited Finland. Andrea tells me though, that it is a tradition among these Finns to make at least once-in-a-lifetime sojourn to the land of their ancestors. We met local Finnish retirees at Suomi Restaurant in Hancock. They came from various backgrounds, having made their careers in business, civil engineering and farming. They have also kept their forefathers' faiths, whether Lutheran or Laestadian.
Most of the footage was taken at Hancock, Michigan, a city of 4,600 residents on the North shore of Portage Lake. It also has the title of the northernmost City in Michigan. Finnish influence in Hancock is everywhere. One can see it just by walking down its streets. The street signs are both in English and Finnish, and there are Finnish flags in each street corner. I would soon learn, that many of the locals also speak Finnish.

Andrea tells me though, that it is a tradition among these Finns to make at least once-in-a-lifetime sojourn to the land of their ancestors. We met local Finnish retirees at Suomi Restaurant in Hancock. They came from various backgrounds, having made their careers in business, civil engineering and farming. They have also kept their forefathers' faiths, whether Lutheran or Laestadian.
Most of the footage was taken at Hancock, Michigan, a city of 4,600 residents on the North shore of Portage Lake. It also has the title of the northernmost City in Michigan. Finnish influence in Hancock is everywhere. One can see it just by walking down its streets. The street signs are both in English and Finnish, and there are Finnish flags in each street corner. I would soon learn, that many of the locals also speak Finnish.

The wife and I hauled our bikes up to explore the U.P. for a week. Really enjoyed the vacation. We set up home base at a cottage on Lake Brevort and tried to see as much of the eastern end as we could. The highlight of the trip was Pictured Rocks and riding H-58, also known as the Hurricane Highway. We are looking forward to going back, highly recommend DA U.P.! We started our trip in Southern Michigan near Detroit, and traveled to the most northern part of Michigan's Northern Peninsula in Copper Harbor. We decided to head "Up North" and visit some beautiful places on a short 3 day trip. We covered many miles and I was able to share some of my favorite places with my girlfriend who moved here from Dallas, TX. this past summer. I've labeled the places we visit and tried to cut the video down as much as possible, but it's hard to cut out memories. We had such an amazing time together. Thanks for watching! -
