Font
In metal typesetting, a font is a particular size, weight and style of a typeface. Each font was a matched set of type, one piece (called a "sort") for each glyph, and a typeface consisting of a range of fonts that shared an overall design.
In modern usage, with the advent of digital typography, "font" is frequently synonymous with "typeface", although the two terms do not necessarily mean the same thing. In particular, the use of "vector" or "outline" fonts means that different sizes of a typeface can be dynamically generated from one design. Each style may still be in a separate "font file"—for instance, the typeface "Bulmer" may include the fonts "Bulmer roman", "Bulmer italic", "Bulmer bold" and "Bulmer extended"—but the term "font" might be applied either to one of these alone or to the whole typeface.
Etymology
The word font (traditionally spelled fount in British English, but in any case pronounced /fɒnt/) derives from Middle French fonte "[something that has been] melted; a casting". The term refers to the process of casting metal type at a type foundry.

Font is a former municipality in the district of Broye, in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland. The municipality of Font merged on 1 January 2012 into the municipality of Estavayer-le-Lac.
History
Font is first mentioned in 1011.
Geography
Font has an area, as of 2009, of 2.5 square kilometers (0.97 sq mi). Of this area, 1.3 km2 (0.50 sq mi) or 52.0% is used for agricultural purposes, while 0.67 km2 (0.26 sq mi) or 26.8% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.37 km2 (0.14 sq mi) or 14.8% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.01 km2 (2.5 acres) or 0.4% is either rivers or lakes and 0.16 km2 (0.062 sq mi) or 6.4% is unproductive land.
Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 6.0% and transportation infrastructure made up 8.0%. Out of the forested land, 24.8% of the total land area is heavily forested and 2.0% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 39.2% is used for growing crops and 10.4% is pastures, while 2.4% is used for orchards or vine crops. All the water in the municipality is in lakes.

Dessie
Dessie (Amharic: ደሴ?) (also spelled Dese or Dessye), is a city and a woreda in north-central Ethiopia. Located in the Debub Wollo Zone of the Amhara Region, it sits at a latitude and longitude of 11°8′N 39°38′E / 11.133°N 39.633°E / 11.133; 39.633, with an elevation between 2,470 and 2,550 metres above sea level.
Dessie is located along Ethiopian Highway 1. It has postal service (a post office was established in the 1920s), and telephone service from at least as early as 1954. The city has had electrical power since at least 1963 when a new diesel-powered electric power station with a power line to Kombolcha was completed, at a cost of Eth$ 110,000. Intercity bus service is provided by the Selam Bus Line Share Company. Dessie shares Combolcha Airport (ICAO code HADC, IATA DSE) with neighbouring Kombolcha.
Dessie is home to a museum, in the former home of Dejazmach Yoseph Birru. It also has a zawiya of the Qadiriyya order of Islam, which was the first Sufi order to be introduced into north-east Africa.

Swiss Grit is inspired by the work of my 90s design heroes and a passion for Letraset typographic dry transfers. Between various alternative characters and a set of dingbats, the idea is to emulate the dynamics and imperfections of dry transfer as well as making my own broken version of Helvetica.

If you've ever driven a vehicle in Switzerland, Belgium or Luxembourg, you've likely seen SNV through your windshield, sparkling with powerful utility on reflective aluminum signs by the roadside and on overpasses. Designed in 1972 by the Swiss utility gurus at the Verein Schweizer Straßenfachmänner foundry, and digitized and distributed commercially by URW as part of their Sign Collection, the typeface is still in use today on every traffic sign in Belgium & Luxembourg, although the Swiss have since begun using ASTRA-Frutiger.
SNV has a somewhat more squarish design aesthetic than its ovular cousin SAA, and also differs in that it contains a lowercase alphabet in addition to the uppercase, as opposed to the uppercase-only SAA Series A. SNV and SAA comprise the two basic typeface styles exhibited on most vehicle license plates in the United States and Canada. The font is available in three weights.

This research uses BERT for Word Sense Disambiguation use case in NLP by modeling the entire problem as sentence classification task using the Gloss knowledge. They show state-of-art results on benchmark datasets.
⏩ Abstract: Word Sense Disambiguation (WSD) aims to find the exact sense of an ambiguous word in a particular context. Traditional supervised methods rarely take into consideration the lexical resources like WordNet, which are widely utilized in knowledge-based methods. Recent studies have shown the effectiveness of incorporating gloss (sense definition) into neural networks for WSD. However, compared with traditional word expert supervised methods, they have not achieved much improvement. In this paper, we focus on how to better leverage gloss knowledge in a supervised neural WSD system. We construct context-gloss pairs and propose three BERT-based models for WSD. We fine-tune the pre-trained BERT model on SemCor3.0 training corpus and the experimental results on several English all-words WSD benchmark datasets show that our approach outperforms the state-of-the-art systems.

Abstract:
Abugida refers to a phonogram writing system where each syllable is represented using a single consonant or typographic ligature, along with a default vowel or optional diacritic(s) to denote other vowels. However, texting in these languages has some unique challenges in spite of the advent of devices with soft keyboard supporting custom key layouts. The number of characters in these languages is large enough to require characters to be spread over multiple views in the layout. Having to switch between views many times to type a single word hinders the natural thought process. This prevents popular usage of native keyboard layouts. On the other hand, supporting romanized scripts (native words transcribed using Latin characters) with language model based suggestions is also set back by the lack of uniform romanization rules.
To this end, we propose a disambiguation algorithm and showcase its usefulness in two novel mutually non-exclusive input methods for languages natively using the abugida writing system: (a) disambiguation of ambiguous input for abugida scripts, and (b) disambiguation of word variants in romanized scripts. We benchmark these approaches using public datasets, and show an improvement in typing speed by 19.49%, 25.13%, and 14.89%, in Hindi, Bengali, and Thai, respectively, using Ambiguous Input, owing to the human ease of locating keys combined with the efficiency of our inference method. Our Word Variant Disambiguation (WDA) maps valid variants of romanized words, previously treated as Out-of-Vocab, to a vocabulary of 100k words with high accuracy, leading to an increase in Error Correction F1 score by 10.03% and Next Word Prediction (NWP) by 62.50% on average.

In metal typesetting, a font is a particular size, weight and style of a typeface. Each font was a matched set of type, one piece (called a "sort") for each glyph, and a typeface consisting of a range of fonts that shared an overall design.
In modern usage, with the advent of digital typography, "font" is frequently synonymous with "typeface", although the two terms do not necessarily mean the same thing. In particular, the use of "vector" or "outline" fonts means that different sizes of a typeface can be dynamically generated from one design. Each style may still be in a separate "font file"—for instance, the typeface "Bulmer" may include the fonts "Bulmer roman", "Bulmer italic", "Bulmer bold" and "Bulmer extended"—but the term "font" might be applied either to one of these alone or to the whole typeface.
Etymology
The word font (traditionally spelled fount in British English, but in any case pronounced /fɒnt/) derives from Middle French fonte "[something that has been] melted; a casting". The term refers to the process of casting metal type at a type foundry.

If you've ever driven a vehicle in Switzerland, Belgium or Luxembourg, you've likely seen SNV through your windshield, sparkling with powerful utility on reflective aluminum signs by the roadside and on overpasses. Designed in 1972 by the Swiss utility gurus at the Verein Schweizer Straßenfachmänner foundry, and digitized and distributed commercially by URW as part of their Sign Collection, the typeface is still in use today on every traffic sign in Belgium & Luxembourg, although the Swiss have since begun using ASTRA-Frutiger.
SNV has a somewhat more squarish design aesthetic than its ovular cousin SAA, and also differs in that it contains a lowercase alphabet in addition to the uppercase, as opposed to the uppercase-only SAA Series A. SNV and SAA comprise the two basic typeface styles exhibited on most vehicle license plates in the United States and Canada. The font is available in three weights.

This research uses BERT for Word Sense Disambiguation use case in NLP by modeling the entire problem as sentence classification task using the Gloss knowledge. They show state-of-art results on benchmark datasets.
⏩ Abstract: Word Sense Disambiguation (WSD) aims to find the exact sense of an ambiguous word in a particular context. Traditional supervised methods rarely take into consideration the lexical resources like WordNet, which are widely utilized in knowledge-based methods. Recent studies have shown the effectiveness of incorporating gloss (sense definition) into neural networks for WSD. However, compared with traditional word expert supervised methods, they have not achieved much improvement. In this paper, we focus on how to better leverage gloss knowledge in a supervised neural WSD system. We construct context-gloss pairs and propose three BERT-based models for WSD. We fine-tune the pre-trained BERT model on SemCor3.0 training corpus and the experimental results on several English all-words WSD benchmark datasets show that our approach outperforms the state-of-the-art systems.

Abstract:
Abugida refers to a phonogram writing system where each syllable is represented using a single consonant or typographic ligature, along with a default vowel or optional diacritic(s) to denote other vowels. However, texting in these languages has some unique challenges in spite of the advent of devices with soft keyboard supporting custom key layouts. The number of characters in these languages is large enough to require characters to be spread over multiple views in the layout. Having to switch between views many times to type a single word hinders the natural thought process. This prevents popular usage of native keyboard layouts. On the other hand, supporting romanized scripts (native words transcribed using Latin characters) with language model based suggestions is also set back by the lack of uniform romanization rules.
To this end, we propose a disambiguation algorithm and showcase its usefulness in two novel mutually non-exclusive input methods for languages natively using the abugida writing system: (a) disambiguation of ambiguous input for abugida scripts, and (b) disambiguation of word variants in romanized scripts. We benchmark these approaches using public datasets, and show an improvement in typing speed by 19.49%, 25.13%, and 14.89%, in Hindi, Bengali, and Thai, respectively, using Ambiguous Input, owing to the human ease of locating keys combined with the efficiency of our inference method. Our Word Variant Disambiguation (WDA) maps valid variants of romanized words, previously treated as Out-of-Vocab, to a vocabulary of 100k words with high accuracy, leading to an increase in Error Correction F1 score by 10.03% and Next Word Prediction (NWP) by 62.50% on average.
