12 people have been arrested and charged with unlawful assembly in Bahrain, as Manama continues its crackdown on peaceful protests in the Persian Gulf kingdom. The Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy said six of the 12 detainees were clerics. It added that those arrested had staged a demonstration near the home of top Shia cleric Sheikh Isa Qassim in the village of Diraz. Sheikh Qassim’s citizenship was revoked in June after Manama accused him of promoting sectarian strife. This sparked mass protests in Bahrain. The kingdom has been the scene of a popular uprising since 2011, with anti-government protesters demanding freedom and democracy. The ruling Al Khalifah regime responded with a fierce crackdown, killing scores and arresting hundreds more. Colin Cavell Former Lecturer, Univ...

Ever since 2011 - at the height of the Arab Spring - the Sunni rulers of Bahrain have faced an opposition intent on seeing more jobs, political reform and greater human rights.Protesters from the Shia majority took their demands to the streets before the security services rolled in and made arrests. Saudi Arabia helped to silence the protests by sending tanks and troops to its neighbour. Five years on, the kingdom seems to be cracking down again on the opposition. Earlier this month, the Justice Ministry banned the main opposition party, al-Wefaq. And last week a leading Shia cleric was stripped of his citizenship, accused of promoting "sectarianism and violence". Iran has warned this decision could trigger armed resistance. But is the Gulf state a victim of tensions between regional riva...
China says it will not allow anyone to use Hong Kong as a base to damage Beijing’s political stability. The top Chinese official also stressed that Beijing would not let anybody challenge the country’s authority. The remarks come as the Chinese government is concerned about an independence movement in Hong Kong following recent demonstrations in the financial hub. Hong Kong returned to the mainland China in 1997 under the QUOTE-“one country, two systems” accord. The agreement allows Hong Kong to have its own political, legal, economic and financial system. War in the living room,
We swore we weren't like that.
Once we went down that road,
There was no turning back.
Anger and jealousy
And distorted fact,
Left this pale shadow
of a life we once had.
How could you love and then
Change just like that?
You give your whole heart away
Then take it all back.
This is the end of the line tonight
We can't defend what we know ain't right.
It's over, it's over, it's over,
This love we should let die.
This is the end of the line.
Broken down promises
Linger on in my head.
The scars and the blemishes
that time could not mend.
How can you live losing
All we once had?
Come on now, little girl,
It ain't quite that bad.
This is the end the line Tonight
We can't defend what
we know ain't right
It's over, it's over, it's over
This love we should let die.
This is the end of the line.
Nothing but love gets you
so hypnotized.
Nothing but love brings
them tears to your eyes.
Nothing but love takes
away all your pride.
Nothing but love eats
You away inside.
This is the end of the line Tonight.
We can't defend what we know ain't right.
Two worlds amend, oh ya and
Two worlds collide.
It's over, it's over, it's Over
This love we should let die.
It's been coming for some time.
So goodnight and goodbye.
This is the end
This is the end
