NHL Trivia - Who Was The First NHL Player To Score an Empty Netter?
On November 11th, 1943 the National Hockey League recorded it's first empty net goal.
Trailing 5-4 late in a game against Chicago, Boston coach Art Ross pulled his goalie in favor of the extra attacker. But Clint "Snuffy" Smith broke in on the unattended goal and, despite Bruins defender Flash Hollett's best attempts, scored into the empty net to seal the victory.

Lloyd Hollett is undisputedly one of the UKs top up and coming Comedians. As well as regularly playing in the UK to many top venues including Butlins, Pontins, Haven & Britannia Hotels, Lloyd is no stranger to the Cruise Circuit. Playing to a wide range of audiences month after month on many of the Major Cruise Lines including Thomson, P & O, Princess, NCL & Holland America to name but a few.
Lloyd will have you rolling in the isles with his own unique blend of Manic, Zany humour, As well as some impressive vocal numbers thrown in for good measure. Using his unpredictable style of madcap comedy, who knows what will happen, as Lloyd brings that old forgotten phrase of Variety back into the 21st Century as he takes to the stage this evening.
As a Comedian his act defies description lets just say hes all over the place! In the pursuance of his trade, he has endured injuries that have included a twisted ankle, sprained back, inflamed lung, chipped nail, one deeply cut chin and concussion. It is hoped that all future performances end with the ringing of the audiences applause in Lloyds ears as opposed to that of an ambulance!

Flash Hollett
Frank William "Bill, Flash" Hollett (April 13, 1911 – April 20, 1999) was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who played 13 seasons in the National Hockey League for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings.
Playing career
Hollett was first noticed by Maple Leafs' owner Conn Smythe as he was playing lacrosse with then-Leafs captain Lionel Conacher. He apprenticed in the minor leagues before being loaned to the Senators for the 1933–34 NHL season. After that - which was the original Senators' final season in Ottawa - Bill played for the Leafs for a season and a half before being sold to the Bruins for $16,000, at the time one of the highest prices ever paid for a player.
Known for his swift skating stride and strong puckhandling ability, Hollett became one of the top offensive defencemen of his day. He played for eight seasons in Boston, and was a star defenceman on the Bruins' Stanley Cup championship teams of 1939 and 1941. In 1942, he set a record for goals by a defenceman with 19, a mark he tied the following season, after which he was named to the league's Second All-Star Team.
