Burundi's electoral body agreed on Wednesday to delay elections in response to an appeal from African leaders. The move comes after more than a month of protests against the president's bid for a third term. The protesters say his move violates the constitution. The electoral body told CCTV on Tuesday that polls were likely to be delayed. The parliamentary vote had been slated for Friday with the presidential poll set for the 26th of June. But with no sign of an end to the unrest, African leaders meeting at a summit in Tanzania called for a delay in the election timetable, of at least a month and a half. Oppositions parties and western donors have also been urging a postponement.

China's communist regime is launching special training classes for Party officials on how to handle "anti-government" protests. The move comes as political unrest is on the rise. China's National Bureau of Statistics says police forces handled nearly 600,000 cases of protests and demonstrations in 2006, the last year for which data was released. That's a 6-fold increase from 2005, and authorities expect these numbers to keep growing. The anti-protest training seminars began after the October mass riots in Shanghai resulting from the execution of Yang Jia—a victim of police abuse. The seminars teach Communist Party officials how to calm protestors with pre-scripted phrases. But it's unclear whether it will address widespread concerns, such as illegal land seizures, police abus...
After graduating college in the summer of 2012, my best friend Amber and I decided to move to the US Virgin Islands for a little while! We had never been before, so we flew down for two weeks, to see how we'd like it. Then we went home to prepare. I sold my car and almost all of my belongings to afford the move. Within one week, Amber and I found a studio apartment on the beach for $1400 a month ($700 each). We both got jobs working on sail boats and leading snorkel tours for cruise ship tourists. For a couple of girls who had never been on sail boats or snorkeled in the deep blue before, we were in for quite an adventure. What comm...
