The following events occurred in October 1971:
1971 (MCMLXXI) was a common year starting on Friday (dominical letter C) of the Gregorian calendar, the 1971st year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 971st year of the 2nd millennium, the 71st year of the 20th century, and the 2nd year of the 1970s decade.
The world population increased by 2.1% this year; the highest in history.
Susan Raye (born October 8, 1944, Eugene, Oregon) is an American country music singer. She enjoyed great popularity during the early and mid 1970's and chalked up seven top 10 and nineteen top 40 country hits (see Susan Raye discography), most notably the song "L.A. International Airport", an international crossover pop hit in 1971.
Raye was a protegee of country music singer Buck Owens. Owens and Raye recorded a number of hit albums and singles together, and were one of the most successful country duet acts of the era, in addition to their solo careers.
Raye first began singing with a high-school rock group, but after the band called it quits, she auditioned for a local country station. Not only did she begin performing on the radio, she also landed work as a disc jockey, eventually becoming the host of a Portland TV program called Hoedown. It was at one of Raye's performances at an area nightclub where she met Jack McFadden, Owens' manager. McFadden was so impressed with her vocal talents that he persuaded Owens to fly her to his home in Bakersfield, California, for an audition.
A Song is an in-studio album containing the works of American pop star Neil Sedaka. It was produced by George Martin and released in 1977 on the Elektra label in the US, marking the beginning of Sedaka's association with Elektra, which would run through 1981. Outside of the US, A Song was released on the Polydor label.
Five of the songs from this album made their way onto 45 rpm singles: "Amarillo" with its B-side "The Leaving Game", and "Alone At Last" with its B-side "Sleazy Love". In Australia, "You Never Done It Like That" saw a 45 rpm release as well, with "Sleazy Love" as its B-side. "Amarillo" reached #44 on the US pop charts; "Alone At Last" failed to crack the Hot 100.
In 2013, a bootleg album was released on CD in selected European Union countries, from vinyl.
Laurie Lewis (born September 28, 1950 in Long Beach, California), is an American bluegrass musician.
Lewis fell in love with American folk music as a teenager, at the sunset of the 1960s folk revival. She says of the Berkeley Folk Festivals where she first caught the folk bug:
She began picking simple songs on the guitar, then the fiddle. After high school, she drifted away from the music, but always kept her fiddle under her bed, not knowing exactly why.
In her early 20s, she discovered the Bay Area bluegrass scene. To her, it was . .
The bluegrass scene of Northern California was a powerful mix of the region's historic progressivism and ardent devotion to musical tradition. Nobody minded that young Laurie was a woman, a non-southerner, or a novice. They didn't mind if she didn't want to learn, chapter and verse, the gospels of Bill Monroe and Ralph Stanley. The scene gave her a rock-ribbed foundation in the rudiments of American roots music.
In the early 1970s she played with The Phantoms of the Opry, a Bay Area bluegrass band that also included Pat Enright (later of the Nashville Bluegrass Band). When the Phantoms broke up she co-founded the Good Ol' Persons, an all-female bluegrass band with Kathy Kallick. In 1979 she founded the Grant Street String Band, also including Beth Weil, Tom Bekeny, Greg Townsend, and Steve Krouse, in which her own songwriting came to the forefront. In the late 1980s, she formed "Laurie Lewis and Grant Street". Since then, she has recorded solo and duo albums, usually accompanied by mandolin artist and singer, Tom Rozum. Nowadays, she often plays under different names with a fairly regular roster of musicians, calling themselves "Laurie Lewis and her Bluegrass Pals," "the Guest House Band;" in 2006, she renamed her group "Laurie Lewis and the Right Hands."

Highlights of the First Division match between Wolves and Southampton at Molineux on 9th October 1971. Wolves produced very impressive home form in the 1971-72 season, their first defeat at Molineux was late in the season against Leicester City on 1st April 1972, and this helped ensure Bill McGarry's team finished a creditable 9th in the league. Wolves also reached the UEFA Cup Final in the 1971-72 season but, ironically, a narrow first leg home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur proved to be the only difference between the two sides (http://youtu.be/idAt9RQeSL4). The 1971-72 season was the first full season that the formidable partnership of Derek Dougan and John Richards were paired together and they responded with 40 league and cup goals between them. They were supported magnificently by th...

An excerpt from a 30-minute video on the “Tallest Totem Pole in the World”, which was raised in Kake, Alaska in 1971. From Sealaska Heritage Institute documentation: In 1926, an overzealous missionary convinced the tribal leaders in Kake that their village totem poles were pagan objects that should be destroyed. The decision came hard but the villagers put their totems to the torch. Years later another and more experienced missionary agreed that totems were not pagan, that the decision of ’26 was wrong. For 41 years nothing happened, then it was suggested a new totem be carved. While financing was arranged, it was agreed that the pole would be displayed at Expo ’70 in Japan. It proved to be the hit of the show. By mid-1971, the Kake totem was home, but horizontal. Since the totem represe...

Laurie Lewis http://laurielewis.ca/ “Lewis brought previous experience with offset production from New York to the University of Toronto Press in 1963. Her career represents several important transitions in design. Not only does it span the extraordinary thirty-year period of change from metal to digital, roughly 1960 - 1990. But it also overlaps the important final phase of the career of one of the truly formative personalities in Canadian design, Allan Fleming. She provided liaison among designer, typesetters, and printers, often laying out dummies or copy counting texts to ensure they fit into proper page multiples. THE MANY LIES TOLD BY THE WEST IN THEIR WAR AGAINST LIBYA *A- THE REAL REASONS FOR THE WAR IN LIBYA* 1- The first African satellite RASCOM 1 It was Libya’s Kadhafi who gave all of Africa its first real revolution in modern times: by ensuring universal coverage of the continent via telephone, television, radio-broadcast and the many other applications such as telemedicine and long-distance learning; for the first time in history, a low-cost connection became available across the continent, and even into rural areas thanks to a bridging WMAX system. The story begins in 1992 when 45 African countries created the RASCOM organization to acquire an African satellite in order to bring down the cost of communications across the continent.
