While free trade has become unpopular in some parts of the world, the presidents of the Pacific Alliance trade bloc make the case for its benefits. Chile, Colombia, and Peru's presidents, along with Mexico's economy secretary, took on the subject at an AS/COA event on September 21 during their visit to New York for the 71st UN General Assembly. "Opening up economies has been extremely productive to the world," said recently elected Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski. "We've had the best period of growth in the last 50 years." In this highlights video of the panel, the leaders also discussed their hopes for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), as well as their views on the U.S. election. How smart are U.S. presidents? In a 2006 study, UC DaNIS professor Dean Simonton used historiometric methods to estimate each president’s IQ. Simonton analyzed information from each president’s biographies, speeches and writings that would indicate intelligence. Simonton estimated four different IQ values for each president. At InsideGov, we averaged all four IQs to get our rankings of the 25 least intelligent presidents in U.S. history. Note that President Obama was not included in the study. With an average IQ of 128.5, these presidents are still smart, but the bar is set pretty high by the most intelligent commanders-in-chief. For reference, the average IQ for the general public is 100. This list is by no means definitive, but it should give a general overview of each president's re...

The four years of Abraham Lincoln’s presidency, the most tumultuous in America’s history as a nation, left an especially obvious mark on the beleaguered president, and this may have been exacerbated by certain potential medical conditions as well. Being the president or prime ...

And that’s not to mention the uglier side of the office, with administration scandals, nasty campaigns, and social injustices. For today, however, we’re focusing on six simple, quantifiable factors for every president since Franklin D. Roosevelt. This list isn’t meant to be definitive, but it can give you a general idea of which modern pre...
Many historians will tell you it was pneumonia that killed President William Henry Harrison. The popular belief is that he developed the infection after catching a cold while delivering his exceptionally long inaugural address. But a recent study reexamined the journal of Harrison's physician, and determined it was actually something else that took the life of Harrison – and two of his successors. -------------------------------------------------- Follow BI Video on Twitter: http://bit.ly/1oS68Zs Follow BI on Facebook: http://bit.ly/1W9Lk0n Read more: http://www.businessinsider.com/ -------------------------------------------------- Business Insider is the fastest growing business news site in the US.
