The 1948 Palestinian exodus, also known as the Nakba (Arabic: النكبة, "al-Nakbah", literally "disaster", "catastrophe", or "cataclysm"), occurred when more than 700,000 Palestinian Arabs fled or were expelled from their homes, during the 1948 Palestine war. The term "nakba" also refers to the period of war itself and events affecting Palestinians from December 1947 to January 1949.
The precise number of refugees is a matter of dispute but around 80 percent of the Arab inhabitants of what became Israel (50 percent of the Arab total of Mandatory Palestine) left or were expelled from their homes.
The causes are also a subject of fundamental disagreement between Arabs and Israelis. Factors involved in the exodus include Jewish military advances, attacks against Arab villages and fears of another massacre by Zionist militias after the Deir Yassin massacre, which caused many to leave out of panic; Arab evacuation orders; expulsion orders by Israeli authorities; the voluntary self-removal of the wealthier classes, the collapse in Palestinian leadership, and an unwillingness to live under Jewish control.

What do Israelis really know about the Nakba? What do they think about the right of return of the Palestinian refugees? De-Colonizer went out to meet and asked them... 14:40 min www.de-colonizer.org / Facebook: De-Colonizer / Twitter: @decolonizer1948
On May 15, 1948 more than 700,000 Palestinians fled or were expelled from their homes, forced out by Zionist gangs. The exodus is now commonly known as the Nakba or catastrophe. Factors behind the exodus include Jewish military advances, attacks against Arab villages, and fears of massacres by Zionist militias which caused many to leave out of panic. There were also expulsion orders by Zionist authorities. Later, a series of laws passed by the first Israeli regime prevented refugees from returning to their homes or claiming their property. They - and millions of their descendants - remain refugees. On today’s show we’ll be commemorating Nakba Day along with Palestinians and pro-Palestinian activists all over the world.
Last week, Palestinians held the annual march to the site of one of hundreds of Palestinian villages destroyed between 1947 and 1949 during the mass displacement called the Nakba. Historian Ilan Pappe of Exeter University discusses the people and ideology behind the crimes of the war of 1948, which he describes as the ethnic cleansing of Palestine. This speech was given at the Al-Awda Convention in 2008.

The historic struggle for Palestine is characterised as the claims and counter-claims of Arabs and Jews, but one factor that is often overlooked behind the Palestinian 'Nakba' or 'catastrophe' of 1948, is the part played by an old imperial power, Britain. The history is written by the victors, who are the rewriters of history as new information, new documents, and new historians, come to light. It is time to examine how history itself is the battleground for the hearts and minds of new generations today.
No no,
Nooo no
Where should I start?
I don't wanna break her heart.
The phone rings and it's you
You beg me to come home
And the truth is girl you think, I'm in the studio
For a moment I was there
And then I ended up here
Now I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place,
What is this I'm gonna face,
If she ever finds out
(Should I just go)
And do what my heart tells me to
(But I cannot let go)
You don't know what I'm goin through
(How did I get)...
Caught up in this sticky situation that I'm facing.
How do I? Say to my girl that I've been cheating.
How can I? Try to explain the late night creeping.
How do I? Tell her the truth and it not end.
How do I? Say I've been cheating with your best friend.
Your best friend, best friend.
I've been cheating with your best friend,
Your best friend, best friend, No no no no
Babygirl it's been tearing me apart,
And it really hurts my heart that I gotta be telling you this.
Even tho I know it's gonna be the end
I couldn't hold it any longer and keep lying to myself
I never wanted to see you cry
You think I'm messed up I know why
Maybe it's my past coming to haunt me
But I'm just doin exactly what she taught me.
(Should I just go)
And do what my heart tells me to
(But I cannot let go)
You don't know what I'm goin through
(How did I get)...
Caught up in this sticky situation that I'm facing.
How do I? Say to my girl that I've been cheating.
How can I? Try to explain the late night creeping.
How do I? Tell her the truth and it not end.
How do I? Say I've been cheating with your best friend.
Your best friend, your best friend.
I've been cheating with your best friend,
Your best friend, your best friend,
