http://www.michaelwallace.biz Santa Ponsa Climb the 600 steps SANTA PONSA Santa Ponsa .. The Holiday Decided we needed some sunshine. We booked a last minute holiday in Santa Ponsa. And we were not disappointed. I choose to come at this time of the year as the high summer would be too warm for me. I am very pale-skinned and burn easy. It's great to be able to do things when you want to and not have let others decide for you. Santa Ponsa & the Weather Could not believe it. It was a sunny 30C to 35C all week. No rain, bright blue skies, all this in the first week of October. Even the locals were surprised. The evenings were a balmy 26C. It was very pleasant to stroll about and choose our next dining place. Santa Ponsa & the Welcome. Santa Ponsa seemed to be full of elderly people and invalids who were very well catered for. There were a lot of young people with babies. At the beach there was a mix of German, English and Irish. Santa Ponsa had its own Oktoberfest going on at one end of the beach each evening with a Bavarian band playing the lederhosen music. And drinking beer with big 2 litre glasses. I managed to acquire a glass for my collection. The Irish were at the other end of the Beach at the various "Irish Bars". I should have been surprised, but wasn't , when we met a party of 8 or more from our own parish having a 60th birthday weekend. High Fives all round and where did you get that glass! Santa Ponsa & the Beach. It's a lovely beach with plenty of sand. It was not overcrowded and we could choose our spot. The sunbeds and there shade were going at 4.50€ each that was 13.50€ for the day or part thereof. At my age I stiffen up so I need to be able to get up easily so choose the beds. The swimming was great, the water just right, I swam out to the raft and did a bit of diving. There were lots of fish to see. My one complaint was that they did not clean the sunbed area. As the tide does not come in that far, there should have been an effort to clean up the beach. Santa Ponsa & Walking There are plenty of walkways and cycle-ways round the whole area. As I lay on the beach I noticed some steps going up the hill. I decided to see how many steps there were. The 600 Steps. Approx. The steps have been there for some time. I spotted a postcard that showed the hill with no housing yet built on it yet the steps went up ,dissecting, the hill I walked up the 600 steps. Slowly. Took some photos. Met a young man on his way down(looked a bit like Fabrigas) he said it was his 4th time . I said he was 20 I was 66 and lived in a Bungalow, so once was brilliant for me. Thank God there was a road to walk back down at the top. The views were stupendous. I was up so high that I was looking down at a helicopter as it flew past. Had my Ipad to take some videos.. Must learn how to splice the videos together. Next day I went up again and this time came back down the same way. I was getting fitter. This time I use my IPhone to make a record. Santa Ponsa & the Night Life. Being at the fag-end of the season things were winding down so some establishments were closed. The remainder were trying hard for our custom. It was a week of European football. All the bars along the strip were showing the English clubs in action. And on Saturday we watched the Leinster v Munster Rugby match on an Irish TV channel in Sean's Place. Great match even if we lost. We usually got back from the beach at around 6pm . I got in my walk up the 600 steps, and went out to eat at 8.30pm. we visited a different restaurant every night and sampled different foods. Delightful. We were not disappointed once. We had Chinese, Argentinian, Fish, Local, Irish, even a MacIberia sandwich while at the beach. All the food was well cooked, fresh, and melt in your mouth, all at affordable prices. Then we visited various pubs to enjoy the craic, before retiring to Sean's Place for a bit of Jiving. The 2 man band was in great form and we usually had a few go's on the dance floor before wending our way home at closing time. The 600 steps, the walking, the swimming and the dancing kept me fit. Santa Ponsa!. Would we go back there again. Certainly. We had a great time there. It is like a home away from home to us Irish. My wife and friends were there in May for a Hen Party and loved it. We love the place. We will be back. And the great thing is that we can go there anytime because we are financially free by having an internet business we can operate from anyplace. I enjoyed working with my Ipad on the beach at Santa Ponsa.
