Gurgaon: The driver of an app-based cab who agreed to give an unofficial ride to three men after switching off his GPS, ended up being robbed of his car late night on Monday. Police said Vijay Kumar, a driver engaged with Ola Cabs, had parked his Swift Dzire, owned by a Jaiprakash, near Leisure Valley Park, when, around 9pm, three people walked up to him looking for a ride in the cab. Kumar had switched off his GPS, and was hoping to make some extra cash by picking up passengers on the road. If the potential customers had booked his cab through the app, Kumar would have had to pay the aggregator a percentage of the trip money. The customers wanted to go to Vatika City, and Kumar quoted Rs 300, to which they agreed. However, after getting into the car, one of them whipped out a gun and asked him to hand over the keys. They later threw him out and fled with the car. He approached the Sector 29 police station and filed a complaint, based on which an FIR was lodged on Tuesday morning. A case has been registered against three persons under sections 379B (snatching and use of force), 34 (common intention) of the IPC and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act. "The car was affiliated with Ola Cabs and had a GPS installed in it, but the driver had turned off the GPS to earn extra cash. Had he not done that, by now, we could have traced the car with the help of the GPS. We're investigating the matter," said ASI Ashwini Kumar.
