Morey Amsterdam (December 14, 1908 – October 28, 1996) was an American television actor and comedian, best known for the role of Buddy Sorrell on CBS's The Dick Van Dyke Show from 1961 to 1966.
Amsterdam was born Moritz Amsterdam in Chicago, Illinois, the youngest of the three sons of Max and Jennie (Finder) Amsterdam, Jewish immigrants from Austria-Hungary.
He began working in vaudeville in 1922 as the straight man for his older brother's jokes. He was a cellist, a skill he used throughout his career. By 1924, he was working in a speakeasy operated by Al Capone.
After being caught in the middle of a gunfight, Amsterdam moved to California and worked writing jokes . His enormous repertoire and ability to come up with a joke on any subject earned him the nickname The Human Joke Machine. He sometimes performed with a mock machine on his chest, hanging by a strap. He turned a hand crank and paper rolled out; he would then pretend to read the machine's joke, although actually the paper was blank .
Morey is a commune in the Saône-et-Loire department in the region of Bourgogne in eastern France.
Morey is located in the hills surrounding the Dheune river and the Canal Du Centre. In addition to the main village, several hamlets are also parts of Morey:
The village is surrounded by the communes of Châtel-Moron, Essertenne, Villeneuve-en-Montagne, Saint-Bérain-sur-Dheune, Saint-Julien-sur-Dheune.
Anciently named "Moreyurn", the village was a dependency of the baron of Couches.
Amsterdam (English /ˈæmstərdæm/ or /ˌæmstərˈdæm/;Dutch: [ɑmstərˈdɑm]) is the capital city and most populous city of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Its status as the Dutch capital is mandated by the Constitution of the Netherlands though it is not the seat of the Dutch government, which is The Hague. Amsterdam has a population of 834,119 within the city proper, 1,329,779 in the urban area and 1,603,531 in the metropolitan area. The city region has an approximate population of 2,431,000. The city is located in the province of North Holland in the west of the country, and is also North Holland's largest city. It comprises much of the northern part of the Randstad, one of the larger conurbations in Europe, with a population of approximately 7 million.
Amsterdam's name derives from Amstelredamme, indicative of the city's origin as a dam of the river Amstel. Originating as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age (17th century), a result of its innovative developments in trade. During that time, the city was the leading center for finance and diamonds. In the 19th and 20th centuries the city expanded, and many new neighbourhoods and suburbs were planned and built. The 17th-century canals of Amsterdam and the 19–20th century Defence Line of Amsterdam are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The series centers on Matt Burgess (Barry Van Dyke), who runs a small regional theater in Pennsylvania, and his father Dick Burgess (Dick Van Dyke), a Broadway musical star. Dick decided to give up Broadway to live and work with his son at the theater. The theater's staff included Doc, the stage manager, Jillian, Matt's secretary, and Eric, Matt's helper.
The series was generally panned by critics and failed to generate sufficient ratings. CBS announced the series' cancellation on December 14, 1988, one week after the sixth episode aired. The remaining four episodes of the ten produced were never aired.

Dick Van Dyke paid a heartfelt tribute to his former on-screen wife Mary Tyler Moore. The titular star of The Dick Van Dyke Show remembered Moore, who died January 25, 2017 at 80 years old, with an as-told-to article with The Hollywood Reporter. The 91-year-old Van Dyke recalled the day he first met Moore, who was only 23, and praised her comedy chops. “I got to be on hand and watch her grow into the talent she became. She was just the best,” Dyke said. “I don’t know what made her comic timing so great. On Dick Van Dyke, we had Morey Amsterdam and Rose Marie, both of whom were old hams and had razor-sharp timing, and mine wasn’t bad either. But Mary just picked it up so fast. She had us all laughing after a couple of episodes. She just grabbed onto the character and literally turned us i...

Did you/do you love the old "Dick Van Dyke Show"? Rob, Laura, Buddy, Sally and Mel became TV fan favorites when the series premiered in 1961. Today, some 44 years after the series ended its network run, the show, the iconic characters and the actors who played them remain on many a top TV comedy list as "classics." We just added my 1992 interview with Morey Amsterdam (a/k/a Buddy Sorrell) to our RerunIt.com collection. In the interview, Morey talks about his life and career pre and-post "Van Dyke" show and about his meeting the soon-to-be presidential candidate John F. Kennedy in the early 1960's and the relationship that followed. This is a clip from that interview. Morey died in 1996 at the age of 87 leaving behind a legacy of his own. As much fun as it was to hear the tales, o...
The Bob Crane Show Interview with Morey Amsterdam KNX-CBS Radio/Los Angeles, CA Original Air Date ~ Circa 1962 Rebroadcast over KNX in May 1964 "Crane approaches something close to genius in integrating his commercials with show-stuff. While he sometimes fractures a sponsor's message, he reassembles the pieces and augments and embellishes said message in such a manner as to increase the plug's effectiveness. This is a matter of record. Crane sells. Crane pitches hard. Add to this that he has the area's fastest-expanding morning audience and you have a degree of value that should make time buyers drool." -Liner Notes, "Laffter, Sweet and Profane" (KNX Promotional Album for The Bob Crane Show) Bob Crane has been called a genius in radio by his radio colleagues at WICC in Bridgeport, CT, a...
She started her career at the age of 3! Worked with show-biz legends like Milton Berle, Jimmy Durante, Ethel Merman and Dick Van Dyke! Also knew, as a child growing up – Bugsy Siegel – and Al Capone, who told her to call him “Uncle Al”. Back then, she was known as Baby Rose Marie. Of course she grew up to play Sally on the long-running, much loved Dick Van Dyke show. And my guest is, of course, the great Rose Marie. I have to tell you I LOVED doing this interview. Rose Marie was there for classic live TV, the early days of Vegas – before anyone knew what Vegas was. You’re in for a treat – once she gets going, she doesn’t stop.

I've said this before
No matter how hard I try
I can't help be bored
While this world passes by
So this revelation's got no meaning
We've lost it all in hopeless dreaming
Am I just losing ground?
Paint it black and just forget me
This worlds a sinking ship
Because our baggage is too heavy
I guess, I'm believing there's something to be said
What are we achieving with the bullshit that was fed
I don't know what were gonna say, I'd live to see the day
This world comes to be, here's a resignation from me
A resignation from me, a resignation from me
I've said this before
No matter how hard I try
I can't help be bored
While this world passes by
Don't tell me, that were close to something
That we don't even understand
We're prisoners to our home
Some might say that were all to blame
The outsides so unknown
And no one here to complain
I can't find the answers to save humanity
I can't find the anger here's a resignation from me
A resignation from me, a resignation from me
