Mark Lenard (October 15, 1924 – November 22, 1996) was an American actor, primarily in television.
Lenard was born Leonard Rosenson in Chicago, Illinois, the son of a Russian Jewish immigrant, Abraham, and his wife, Bessie, but was raised in the small town of South Haven, Michigan, where his family owned a tourist resort. He joined the United States Army in 1943 and trained to be a paratrooper during World War II but did not see actual combat and was discharged in 1946 as a technical sergeant.
He got his start on stage while in the Army. After earning a master's degree in theater and speech from the University of Michigan, he became known in New York City for serious drama, including Ibsen, Shaw, and Chekov. His first notable role was that of Conrad in the Sir John Gielgud production of Much Ado About Nothing. In the mid-1960s, he moved his family to Los Angeles, where he played one of the Three Wise Men in the biblical epic The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965).
Leonard Simon Nimoy (/ˈniːmɔɪ/; March 26, 1931 – February 27, 2015) was an American actor, film director, photographer, author, singer, and songwriter. He was known for his role as Mr. Spock of the Star Trek franchise, a character he portrayed in television and film from a pilot episode shot in late 1964 to his final film performance released in 2013.
Nimoy began his career in his early twenties, teaching acting classes in Hollywood and making minor film and television appearances through the 1950s, as well as playing the title role in Kid Monk Baroni. Foreshadowing his fame as a semi-alien, he played Narab, one of three Martian invaders in the 1952 movie serial Zombies of the Stratosphere.
In December 1964, he made his first appearance in the rejected Star Trek pilot "The Cage", and went on to play the character of Spock until the end of the production run in early 1969, followed by eight feature films and guest slots in the various spin-off series. The character has had a significant cultural impact and garnered Nimoy three Emmy Award nominations; TV Guide named Spock one of the 50 greatest TV characters. After the original Star Trek series, Nimoy starred in Mission: Impossible for two seasons, hosted the documentary series In Search of..., narrated Civilization IV, and made several well-received stage appearances. He also had a recurring role in the science fiction series Fringe.

The very first role that New York-based actor Mark Lenard picked up when he arrived in Hollywood was that of the noble Romulan Commander in Star Trek. Mark played Chief of Security Urko on The Planet of the Apes television series 1974. In the earliest script treatments, the character was called "Ursus". This was still his name when Mark Lenard auditioned for the part in May 1974. He was then going to be called "Urso", but the actor reportedly had difficulty saying this word through the makeup. Urko's horse was a beautiful white mare, 15 hands high, and about seven years old. Her real name was 'Silver' Music- The Clash-'I Fought the Law'
