Korea, called Chosŏn (Korean: 조선; Hanja: 朝鮮) in North Korea and Hanguk (Korean: 한국; Hanja: 韓國) or Daehanminkuk (Korean: 대한민국; Hanja: 大韓民國) in South Korea, is an East Asian territory that is divided into two distinct sovereign states: North Korea, formally the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), and South Korea, formally the Republic of Korea (ROK). Located on the Korean Peninsula, Korea is bordered by China to the northwest and Russia to the northeast. It is separated from Japan to the east by the Korea Strait and the Sea of Japan .
Korea emerged as a singular political entity after centuries of conflict among the Three Kingdoms of Korea, which were unified as Silla (57 BC – AD 935) and Balhae (AD 698 – 926). The united Silla was eventually succeeded by Goryeo in 935 at the end of the Later Three Kingdoms period. Goryeo, which gave name to the modern exonym "Korea", was a highly cultured state and created the Jikji in the 14th century. The invasions by the Mongol Empire in the 13th century, however, greatly weakened the nation, which forced it into vassalage. After the Yuan dynasty's collapse, severe political strife followed. Goryeo eventually fell to an uprising led by General Yi Seong-gye, who established Joseon in 1388.

일본 태풍 비상, 한국도 비 영향 Japan is battening down the hatches as a powerful storm is on collision course with the nation. Typhoon Lionrock is due to reach the coastal regions of northeast Japan late Tuesday. Although it won't directly affect Korea,... parts of the nation can expect heavy rain and blustery winds over the next couple of days. Lee Un-shin has more. Packing gusts of up to two hundred-15 kilometers an hour, Typhoon Lionrock is expected to make landfall in the central and northern part of Japan, including the Honshu region by Tuesday evening, local time. Powerful winds have already started to buffer the nation, prompting the cancellation of hundreds of domestic flights and disrupting local train services. Typhoon Lionrock is expected to dump 80-millimeters of rain per hour on some ar...
Now,... despite a few rainy days here and there... Korea′s central region remains in the grip of one of the worst droughts in years. The Korea Meteorological Administration says that, from January to the end of September,... Seoul and its neighboring Gyeonggi-do Province received just 43 percent of the accumulated precipitation they would normally see over the same period. The situation was better in Korea′s two southernmost provinces,... but they still only saw 80 percent of average levels. The weather agency says that,... in addition to this year′s monsoon season being weak,... no typhoons made direct hits between July and September. And the drought is expected to continue with no heavy rain forecast in the coming weeks.
