London Victoria station, generally known as Victoria, is a central London railway terminus and London Underground complex named after nearby Victoria Street the latter being named after Queen Victoria. With over 81 million passenger entries and exits between April 2013 and March 2014, London Victoria is the second-busiest terminus in London (and the UK) after London Waterloo, and includes an air terminal for passengers travelling by train to Gatwick Airport. It is one of 19 stations managed by Network Rail. The area around the station is an important interchange for other forms of transport: a local bus station is in the forecourt, and Victoria Coach Station for long-distance road coaches is nearby. Victoria is in Travelcard Zone 1.
Victoria is a London terminus for both Southern and Southeastern. Southern provides the majority of commuter/regional services to South London and Sussex as well as parts of East Surrey via the Brighton Main Line. Southeastern provides services in South East London and along the Chatham Main Line to Kent. It is also the terminus for the Gatwick Express service to Gatwick Airport.
There are effectively four railway stations on the site: on National Rail, two serving main-line routes in south eastern England, to Brighton, Hove, Worthing, Eastbourne, Canterbury and Dover; and on the London Underground, an underground station built by the cut-and-cover method serving the District and Circle lines and the deep-level Victoria line tube line station.
Victoria station (first referred as the "Grosvenor Terminus") is the closest mainline station to Buckingham Palace.

Victoria, London's second busiest rail terminal, is situated in the south west part of the city near Hyde Park and is the principal station for destinations along the south coast including Brighton, Littlehampton, Bognor Regis and Eastbourne as well as the south London suburbs such as Peckham.
At the end of this video, steam locomotive SR Merchant Navy Class 4-6-2 number 35028 'Clan Line' is seen at the station waiting to depart with the 'Belmond British Pullman' to Shelford.

Today’s film shows one of my favorite London Underground lines, the Victoria Line.
It opened in 1968 and runs underground for the entirety of the line. It has been run with automatic train operation since day one, and it has been really optimized for speed.
Trains accelerate and decelerate absolutely precisely, and there are no delays between stopping and opening the doors. Currently 2009 Stock trains are used on the line, which are very clean and modern.
Also, the service frequency is quite amazing, with a train running every minute during peak times.
This film shows scenes from Finsbury Park, Brixton and Pimlico as well as a short ride from Brixton to Stockwell. At Finsbury Park the film also briefly features a Piccadilly Line train, to which one can transfer from the Victoria Line across the platform.

A look at the newly refurbished Manchester Victoria Railway Station on the afternoon of Sunday 30th August 2015.
Victoria is one of the 2 main railway stations in Manchester (the other being Piccadilly) and serves destinations in Lancashire and Yorkshire such as Blackpool, Southport, Wigan, Rochdale, Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Liverpool and Kirkby provided by Northern Rail. In addition, the station is served by the First Transpennine Express service running between Newcastle and Liverpool.
The station has 6 platforms. The 4 through platforms are located underneath the MEN Arena and are part of a rebuild that took place in the early 1990s. The remaining 2 are terminal platforms and are located on the side of the station which dates back to the 1900s. This side also has the platforms for the Manchester Metrolink system. This side of the station has undergone a major refurbishment which included a new roof.

Train station
A train station, railway station, railroad station, or depot (see below) is a railway facility where trains regularly stop to load or unload passengers or freight.
It generally consists of at least one track-side platform and a station building (depot) providing such ancillary services as ticket sales and waiting rooms. If a station is on a single-track line, it often has a passing loop to facilitate traffic movements. The smallest stations are most often referred to as "stops" or, in some parts of the world, as "halts" (flag stops).
Stations may be at ground level, underground, or elevated. Connections may be available to intersecting rail lines or other transport modes such as buses, trams or other rapid transit systems.
Terminology
In the United States, the most common term in contemporary usage is train station. Railway station and railroad station are less frequent; also, American usage makes a distinction between the terms railroad and railway.
In Britain and other Commonwealth countries, traditional usage favours railway station or simply station, even though train station, which is often perceived as an Americanism, is now about as common as railway station in writing; railroad station is not used, railroad being obsolete there. In British usage, the word station is commonly understood to mean a railway station unless otherwise qualified.

A look at the newly refurbished Manchester Victoria Railway Station on the afternoon of Sunday 30th August 2015. Victoria is one of the 2 main railway stations in Manchester (the other being Piccadilly) and serves destinations in Lancashire and Yorkshire such as Blackpool, Southport, Wigan, Rochdale, Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Liverpool and Kirkby provided by Northern Rail. In addition, the station is served by the First Transpennine Express service running between Newcastle and Liverpool. The station has 6 platforms. The 4 through platforms are located underneath the MEN Arena and are part of a rebuild that took place in the early 1990s. The remaining 2 are terminal platforms and are located on the side of the station which dates back to the 1900s. This side also has the platforms for the Manchester Metrolink system. This side of the station has undergone a major refurbishment which included a new roof. Victoria, London's second busiest rail terminal, is situated in the south west part of the city near Hyde Park and is the principal station for destinations along the south coast including Brighton, Littlehampton, Bognor Regis and Eastbourne as well as the south London suburbs such as Peckham. At the end of this video, steam locomotive SR Merchant Navy Class 4-6-2 number 35028 'Clan Line' is seen at the station waiting to depart with the 'Belmond British Pullman' to Shelford. It opened in 1968 and runs underground for the entirety of the line. It has been run with automatic train operation since day one, and it has been really optimized for speed. Trains accelerate and decelerate absolutely precisely, and there are no delays between stopping and opening the doors. Currently 2009 Stock trains are used on the line, which are very clean and modern. Also, the service frequency is quite amazing, with a train running every minute during peak times. Today’s film shows one of my favorite London Underground lines, the Victoria Line.
It opened in 1968 and runs underground for the entirety of the line. It has been run with automatic train operation since day one, and it has been really optimized for speed.
Trains accelerate and decelerate absolutely precisely, and there are no delays between stopping and opening the doors. Currently 2009 Stock trains are used on the line, which are very clean and modern.
Also, the service frequency is quite amazing, with a train running every minute during peak times.
This film shows scenes from Finsbury Park, Brixton and Pimlico as well as a short ride from Brixton to Stockwell. At Finsbury Park the film also briefly features a Piccadilly Line train, to which one can transfer from the Victoria Line across the platform.

A look at the newly refurbished Manchester Victoria Railway Station on the afternoon of Sunday 30th August 2015.
Victoria is one of the 2 main railway stations in Manchester (the other being Piccadilly) and serves destinations in Lancashire and Yorkshire such as Blackpool, Southport, Wigan, Rochdale, Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Liverpool and Kirkby provided by Northern Rail. In addition, the station is served by the First Transpennine Express service running between Newcastle and Liverpool.
The station has 6 platforms. The 4 through platforms are located underneath the MEN Arena and are part of a rebuild that took place in the early 1990s. The remaining 2 are terminal platforms and are located on the side of the station which dates back to the 1900s. This side also has the platforms for the Manchester Metrolink system. This side of the station has undergone a major refurbishment which included a new roof.

A look at London Victoria Railway Station on the late morning and early afternoon of Friday 23rd January 2015. Victoria, London's second busiest rail terminal, is situated in the south west part of the city near Hyde Park and is the principal station for destinations along the south coast including Brighton, Littlehampton, Bognor Regis and Eastbourne as well as the south London suburbs such as Peckham. At the end of this video, steam locomotive SR Merchant Navy Class 4-6-2 number 35028 'Clan Line' is seen at the station waiting to depart with the 'Belmond British Pullman' to Shelford. Today’s film shows one of my favorite London Underground lines, the Victoria Line.
It opened in 1968 and runs underground for the entirety of the line. It has been run with automatic train operation since day one, and it has been really optimized for speed.
Trains accelerate and decelerate absolutely precisely, and there are no delays between stopping and opening the doors. Currently 2009 Stock trains are used on the line, which are very clean and modern.
Also, the service frequency is quite amazing, with a train running every minute during peak times.
This film shows scenes from Finsbury Park, Brixton and Pimlico as well as a short ride from Brixton to Stockwell. At Finsbury Park the film also briefly features a Piccadilly Line train, to which one can transfer from the Victoria Line across the platform.

A look at the newly refurbished Manchester Victoria Railway Station on the afternoon of Sunday 30th August 2015.
Victoria is one of the 2 main railway stations in Manchester (the other being Piccadilly) and serves destinations in Lancashire and Yorkshire such as Blackpool, Southport, Wigan, Rochdale, Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Liverpool and Kirkby provided by Northern Rail. In addition, the station is served by the First Transpennine Express service running between Newcastle and Liverpool.
The station has 6 platforms. The 4 through platforms are located underneath the MEN Arena and are part of a rebuild that took place in the early 1990s. The remaining 2 are terminal platforms and are located on the side of the station which dates back to the 1900s. This side also has the platforms for the Manchester Metrolink system. This side of the station has undergone a major refurbishment which included a new roof.
