Mumbai has many posh addresses, one of them being Altamount Road where the rich and affluent reside. Its residents include Mukesh Ambani, the Mafatlals, Kumar Mangalam Birla and Naresh Goel. This famous road has a square (chowk) named after producer Shri Ram Bohra who founded the famous Bohra Bros. in 1948. Shri Ram Bohra was also the president of IMPAA for 15 years. It only seems fitting then that such a famous road be home to other famous personalities. Mr. Shree Ram Bohra, a simple man with great dreams and visions for entertainment industry traveled from Jodhpur, (Rajasthan) to Bombay in 1947. He along with his brother Mr. Ram Kumar Bohra founded BOHRA BROS in 1948, and began a great journey that never ceased to exist. He forayed into film production with 'LACHAK' starring Amarnath and Gita Bali. The film bombed at the box office. Undaunted, he continued his struggle with the motto "believe in oneself and the world will be at your feet." He returned to make another film 'AL HILAL' which became a hit all over India with the song "Hame to loot liya milke husn walo ne", becoming a nationwide rage. He then went on to produce and direct a number of successful films, primary among them being "Thief of Baghdad" (directed twice in 1950 & 60), "Hercules", "Golden Eye", "Saajan Ka Ghar", "Mard" and "Takkar". In 1958 he became an executive member of Indian Motion Picture Producer Association (IMPPA), the exclusive film producers' body in India. In 1972, he was elected as its president. Due to his selfless endeavor as president, he was re-elected the following year. History kept repeating itself for the next ten years and he served as the president of the IMPPA for a record period of 12 years. He was one leader of the film industry on whom every producer, big or small, counted upon for solving their problems, whether they were with colleague producers or distributors or anyone else connected with the film industry. He was a leader who was available at anytime and at any place. He fought with the government in solving problems the film industry was facing and led many delegations to impress upon the government the need for solutions. It was due to this selfless service that he presided over the INDIAN MOTION PICTURES PRODUCERS ASSOCIATION (IMPPA) for 12 long years and was re-elected as President unanimously year after year. It was because of his forthright approach in solving problems of the industry that he was also the head of the ALL INDIA FILM PRODUCERS COUNCIL (AIFPC), The FILM MAKERS COMBINE (FMC) and the apex body of the Indian film industry, FILM FEDERATION OF INDIA (FFI). In 1975 he formed a trust called The Film Industry Education and Charitable Trust. This trust was formed for general public, but film industry in particular. The trust is associated in supplying free medical aid, education, books and uniform to needy children. Even today the trust collects its funds by organizing Films Premiers on a regular basis. The popular films whose premier shows have been held are Tridev, Saajan, Khalnayak, Saajan ka Ghar etc. Till date the trust is carrying on all its activities. To help the film industry, Mr. Shree Ram Bohra also constructed a building called "Movie Towers" in 1982. This building was constructed at a no profit-no loss basis and apartments were given to the film industry people at a throw away price. In the 60's his sons joined in his business and started expanding. They diversified into Film Distribution in 1960, theaters in 1977 and studios in 1984. Today, with offices in Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Indore, Bohra Bros is one of those elite companies who have an infrastructure and expertise in Film Production, Distribution and Exhibition. With the blessings of Mr. Shree Ram Bohra, his sons and grandsons are continuing the journey he started them out on, producing and distributing films regularly. One of Mr. Shree Ram Bohra's unfulfilled wishes was to build a hospital, in his hometown Jodhpur, where people could be treated free of charge. On April 1st 1997, his first death anniversary, his sons built a special wing called "Shree Ram Bohra Memorial Wing" at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, Jodhpur where the poor and needy people are treated by the best of doctors free of charge. Till date Mr. Shree Ram Bohra is remembered for his leadership skills, his efficiency in dealing with the government on behalf of the producers as well as handling industry crises in a very effective and articulate manner.
