The research team headed to the Bahamas on the Alexa Rae to collect bacteria samples from the mouths of sharks. The study required us to collect bacteria samples from lemon sharks, bull sharks and tiger sharks. We got news that there was a big bull shark hanging around the gas dock. It turned out to be a huge lemon shark, over 8ft.

The lemon shark, Negaprion brevirostris, shark in the family Carcharhinidae, can grow to 10 feet (3.0 m) long. It is known as the lemon shark because light interacting at certain depths with the local seawater can give this shark a tanned and yellow, pitted appearance, much like the surface of a lemon.
This stocky, powerful shark is named for its pale yellow-brown to grey skin, which lacks any distinctive markings. This provides perfect camouflage when swimming over the sandy seafloor in its coastal habitat. It has a flattened head with a short, broad snout, and the second dorsal fin is almost as large as the first.
The lemon shark is found mainly along the subtropical and tropical parts of the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of North and South America, and around Pacific islands. The longest lemon shark recorded was 13 ft (4.0 m) long, but they are usually 8–10 ft (2.4–3.0 m). They inhabit mostly tropical waters, stay at moderate depths, and are often accompanied by remoras.
Lemon sharks are viviparous, females giving birth to between four and 17 young every other year in warm and shallow lagoons. The young have to fend for themselves from birth, and remain in shallow water near mangroves until they grow larger. With increasing size, they venture further away from their birthplaces. At maturity, at a size of 1.5–2 m and an age of 12–15 years, they leave shallow water and move into deeper waters offshore. However, little is known of this life stage. The maximum recorded length and weight is 340 cm and 183 kg.

Sharks are top predators in the marine ecosystem and therefore have a key role in maintaining the trophic balance and biodiversity. Given the human ignorance and greed for their wholesale destruction, they need all the help they can get. Do fish feel pain? Yes they do. Scientists presents facts and research to show that fish feel pain, and expose the cruelty involved in angling. Fish pain and suffering in angling its a fact. Do fish have any feelings? In my opinion and experience, yes, they do, as does all animal life. If you spear or angling a fish, do they suffer, do they scream silently, do they feel pain. Yes they do. You can see it in their struggle for life. -

Juvenile Lemon Shark Research - Bimini, Bahamas - 2012
Staff and volunteers at the Bimini Biological Field Station 'Sharklab' catch and tag four juvenile lemon sharks (Negaprion brevirostris) at a nursery in East Bimini, Bahamas. Researchers attach accelerometers to the dorsal fin of the sharks. This tag aids in determining field metabolic rate of the species. The sharks are then released to the wild for five days whilst the tags collect data. Sharks are subsequently re-caught, the tags are removed and the sharks are then re-released back into the wild. The study required us to collect bacteria samples from lemon sharks, bull sharks and tiger sharks. We got news that there was a big bull shark hanging around the gas dock. It turned out to be a huge lemon shark, over 8ft.

This amazing animal is killed by millions, worldwide sharks population has a 90% decline. Estimated 150,000,000 sharks are killed every year. This is a dramatic figure of over exploitation of sharks and a way of damaging one of the largest and most important ecosystems on the planet. The consequences are unpredictable and tragic for future generations we have to understand that any changes in nature trigger collateral changes that affect all species. Sharks are top predators in the marine ecosystem and therefore have a key role in maintaining the trophic balance and biodiversity. Given the human ignorance and greed for their wholesale destruction, they need all the help they can get. Do fish feel pain? Yes they do. Scientists presents facts and research to show that fish feel pain, and expose the cruelty involved in angling. Fish pain and suffering in angling its a fact. Do fish have any feelings? In my opinion and experience, yes, they do, as does all animal life. If you spear or angling a fish, do they suffer, do they scream silently, do they feel pain. Yes they do. You can see it in their struggle for life.
