The Social Democratic Party (SPD) member and Vice-President of the Parliament in Lower Saxony, Gabriele Andretta, was pepper sprayed during scuffles between police and more than 500 left-wing activists in Goettingen, Saturday.
The protesters gathered to picket a far-right demonstration in front of Goettingen’s central station. Tensions ran high even before far-right demonstrators even reached the central station, with scuffles between the protesters and riot police breaking out. The police reportedly fired tear gas and used pepper spray against the protesters. According to local media, the police also made several arrests.

Birds-of-Paradise sport some of the strangest feathers in the bird world. The male King-of-Saxony takes the cake with stiff ornamental feathers (up to twice the male's body length) sprouting from the top of his head. The Social Democratic Party (SPD) member and Vice-President of the Parliament in Lower Saxony, Gabriele Andretta, was pepper sprayed during scuffles between police and more than 500 left-wing activists in Goettingen, Saturday. The protesters gathered to picket a far-right demonstration in front of Goettingen’s central station. Tensions ran high even before far-right demonstrators even reached the central station, with scuffles between the protesters and riot police breaking out. The police reportedly fired tear gas and used pepper spray against the protesters. According to local media, the police also made several arrests. The male King-of-Saxony takes the cake with stiff ornamental feathers (up to twice the male's body length) sprouting from the top of his head.
