An international airport is an airport that offers customs and immigration facilities for passengers travelling between countries. International airports are typically larger than domestic airports and often feature longer runways and facilities to accommodate the heavier aircraft commonly used for international and intercontinental travel. International airports often also host domestic flights. Some, such as Frankfurt Airport in Germany are very large; others such as Fa'a'ā International Airport in Tahiti, are quite small.
Buildings, operations and management have become increasingly sophisticated since the mid 20th century, when international airports began to provide infrastructure for international civilian flights. Detailed technical standards have been developed to ensure safety and common coding systems implemented to provide global consistency. The physical structures that serve millions of individual passengers and flights are among the most complex and interconnected in the world. By the second decade of the 21st century, there were over 1,200 international airports and almost two billion international passengers along with 50 million metric tonnes of cargo were passing through them annually.

Videos and pictures of the diverse traffic seen at PDX. Portland is the smallest city in the country(metro pop: 2.3 million) to have scheduled non-stop service to both Asia and Europe. Between normal operations, a Boeing paint facility and the most active Air National Guard base in the country Portland has a wide variety of visitors ranging from 747's, A330's and 777's to F-15's, F/A-18's and nearly every kind of military aircraft.
Yes, I do promise to come back out to Portland sometime and do plane spotting with members of the PDX planespotting crew but for now this will have to do. I was out in Oregon for a family matter that needed taking care of and decided to get some shots in my spare time.... Enjoy! Getting the pushback of Hawaiian Airlines Airbus A330-200 HAL#25 to Honolulu International Airport PHNL / HNL and the Alaska Airlines Disney Cars themed Boeing 737-800 were the highlights for sure. There's lots of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Airlines here.... Had a blast filming at the Horizon Airlines Dash 8 terminal here... such a cool experience i could've stayed there all day long. ------------------------------- Follow me on Twitter at twitter.com/ohareaviation ------------------------------- This video...
There's no way I have the time to write a description fitting enough for this video.... that being said, let me say that planespotting from the terminal is an incredibly challenging and sometimes frustrating way to planespot. There are always the unexpected noises, interruptions, unforeseen circumstances and difficulties that come with trying to make a decent video from behind concourse glass. Additionally, bright sunlight reflects very well off of everything inside the airport through the glass and causes the video captured to sometimes have a multi-colored or faded-out look to it. Despite the circumstances...I have to say I'm rather pleased with how this turned out anyway. You may notice a few clips are out-of-order but I think it helps the flow of the video better. Specials, specia...

A music video I made when I was walking around PDX before my red-eye flight to Detroit. The only difference between this video and my other PDX music video is that this one includes aircraft movement, and I went to the A gates. Filmed on 11/7 (Video 8/13) My other PDX music video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CELwXPk1jZk Also check out my PDX spotting video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ri-SgG6l72A
Different shots of the airport and some of the airlines. Sorry about some of the shots, its not easy to film out the windows when its still dark, plus not many movements going on that early in the morning. Here's a better version from my latest trip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILPh79qkiqM Shot with a Nikon Coolpix s9200. If you were hoping I would come to Portland, Oregon and wanted to do some planespotting with me please don't feel offended I didn't go spotting with anyone this time.... I will be back for more later and then we can go planespotting together. I was out In Portland on business of a personal, family nature and just went ahead and made a video while I was at it. This video starts with some planespotting action from various locations in the terminal (Concourse D and C primarily) at Portland International Airport KPDX / PDX in Portland, Oregon, and proceeds to then show a good deal of flying footage of my return trip back to Minneapolis / St. Paul Airport in Minneapolis, Minnesota which has recently become my home airport. Wide awake
I'm on a plane out of town
Fly away
From the weight of the world
On the ground
I'm international
But I don't know where to go
Hopefully where summer days
Can melt these winter bones
I'm international
And you're orbiting my brain
I'm reduced to writing nothing
All over napkins on the plane
Wide awake
I'm on a plane out of town
Taking pictures of myself
In the mirror on wall
Trying hard not to make my space
The loneliest place of all
Early warning all across the sky
Clouds are rolling in on your light
Any change from here would be
The wisest change of all
Any place from here up here
Would be the finest place to fall
Wide awake
I'm on a plane out of town
I'm losing track of myself
On all the time zone lines
And if I daylight save
Do I jump ahead or fall behind?
And I'm fine 'cause I know
Any plane I ride
Can fly me home
And I'm fine 'cause I know
You know, I know
It's easy to see
Clouds were built for dreams
Because nothing up there
Is as easy as it seems
I step out
And try to walk around
As I fall, I look up
And wonder why it let me down
I'm international
That's twice the speed of sound
I just hope I take off from here
Before I hit the ground
If I could get to heaven
By an airplane in the sky
We would always be in love
And we would always love to fly
Wide awake
I'm on a plane out of town
Taking pictures of myself
In the mirror on wall
Trying hard not to make my space
The loneliest place of all
And I'm fine 'cause I know
Any plane I ride
Can fly me home
And I'm fine 'cause I know
You know, I know
And I'm fine 'cause I know
Any plane I ride
Can fly me home
And I'm fine 'cause I know
Any plane I ride
Can fly me home
You know, I know
