Kanpur: District election office has declared the final list of voters for the state Assembly elections. More than 30,000 names have been deleted from the list and most of them were carrying two or more voter identity cards.
District magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma held a meeting with political parties on Monday. He said that names of those voters had been struck, who had died.
He asked the political parties to give suggestions and objections about final list before June 25. The list has been provided to the political parties.
He said that there was a need to struck the bogus names and add young voters, who had attained the age of 18 years.
Proposals for 3,340 new polling booths had been received and final list of polling booths would be disclosed on Wednesday. He called upon all political parties to cooperate in deleting bogus voters and addition of new voters.
Samajwadi Party leader KK Shukla and Ashutosh Pandey of BJP suggested that ID cards should be provided to new voters.
The addition and deletion of voters could take place in the office of voters registration officer. The residents of Bilhaur and Ghatampur tehsils could apply in the office of sub-divisional magistrate while residents of Kalyanpur may apply at ACM VI office. Additional city magistrates have been also authorized for it.
