The Øresund or Öresund Bridge (Danish: Øresundsbroen, Swedish: Öresundsbron, joint hybrid name: Øresundsbron) is a combined twin-track railway and dual carriageway bridge-tunnel across the Øresund strait between Sweden and Denmark.
The bridge runs nearly 8 km (5 miles) from the Swedish coast to the artificial island of Peberholm, which lies in the middle of the strait. The remainder of the link is by tunnel from Peberholm to the Danish island of Amager. The Øresund Bridge is the longest combined road and rail bridge in Europe, and connects two major metropolitan areas: those of the Danish capital city of Copenhagen and the major Swedish city of Malmö. Furthermore, the Øresund Bridge connects the road and rail networks of Scandinavia with those of Central and Western Europe.
The international European route E20 crosses this bridge-tunnel via the road, and the Oresund Line uses the railway. The construction of the Great Belt Fixed Link – which connects Zealand to Funen and thence to the Jutland Peninsula – and the Oresund Bridge have connected Central and Western Europe to Scandinavia by road and rail. The Oresund Bridge was designed by the Danish architectural practice Dissing+Weitling.

The Sound (Danish Øresund, Danish pronunciation: [ˈøːɐsɔnˀ], or Swedish Öresund, pronounced [œrəˈsɵnd]), locally known as Sundet, is the strait that separates the Danish island Zealand from the southern Swedish province of Scania. Its width is just 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) at the narrowest point between Kronborg Castle at Elsinore (Helsingør in Danish) in Denmark, and the northern harbour of Helsingborg in Scania, Sweden. The strait has also lent its name to the Øresund Region of 3.8 million inhabitants on both the Danish and Swedish sides.
Øresund is one of the three Danish Straits that connects the Baltic Sea to the Atlantic Ocean via Kattegat, Skagerrak and the North Sea, and is one of the busiest waterways in the world.
The Øresund Bridge (which includes a 3 km tunnel) between Danish capital Copenhagen and the largest city of Scania, Malmö was inaugurated on 1 July 2000 by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. Ferries run around the clock between Helsingborg, Sweden and Helsingør, Denmark.

The Øresund Bridge was inaugurated in July 2000.
In May 2003 the Øresund Bridge won the IABSE Outstanding Structure Award. The judges commended the project for its innovative planning, design and construction management as well as its compliance with the time schedule, budget and tough environmental requirements.
The whole project consisted of the construction of a bridge, a tunnel and an artificial island between the two countries that stretched 16.4km.
The Øresund Bridge is composed of a high bridge over the Flintrännan navigation channel and two approach bridges. The high bridge has the longest cable-stayed main span in the world (490m) for both road and rail traffic.
The bridge two-level superstructure is fabricated from steel and concrete.
The western part of the Øresund Link is a 4km-long tunnel between the artificial island of Peberholm and the artificial peninsula at Kastrup.
The artificial island of Peberholm was built in order to transfer the traffic from the immersed tunnel up onto the approach bridge. Peberholm is approx. 4km long and mainly made up of dredged material from the Øresund seabed. A total of 1.6 million m³ of stone and 7.5 million m³ of sand and dredged material were required for its completion.

The Øresund Bridge is the bridge that connects Amager and Oresund in Denmark (on the island Zealand) with Skane, Sweden, in a total length of just over 10 miles (16,4 km). This is the road connection between the metropolitan areas of Copenhagen and Malmo.
Perfect for travelers wanting a quick connection between Sweden and Denmark without flying, the Øresund Bridge now carries more than 60,000 travelers daily.
The Øresund Bridge was inaugurated in July 2000.
In May 2003 the Øresund Bridge won the IABSE Outstanding Structure Award. The judges commended the project for its innovative planning, design and construction management as well as its compliance with the time schedule, budget and tough environmental requirements.
The whole project consisted of the construction of a bridge, a tunnel and an artificial island between the two countries that stretched 16.4km.
The Øresund Bridge is composed of a high bridge over the Flintrännan navigation channel and two approach bridges. The high bridge has the longest cable-stayed main span in the world (490m) for both road and rail traffic.
The bridge two-level superstructure is fabricated from steel and concrete.
The western part of the Øresund Link is a 4km-long tunnel between the artificial island of Peberholm and the artificial peninsula at Kastrup.
The artificial island of Peberholm was built in order to transfer the traffic from the immersed tunnel up onto the approach bridge. Peberholm is approx. 4km long and mainly made up of dredged material from the Øresund seabed. A total of 1.6 million m³ of stone and 7.5 million m³ of sand and dredged material were required for its completion.

After more disasters in the 19th century, when Nelson attacked the Danish fleet and bombed the city during the reconstruction Danish Golden Age brought a look of neoclassical architecture in Copenhagen. Later, after the Second World War, the Finger Plan promoted the development of homes and businesses in five urban rail lines extending from the center of town

WHAT TO DO IN SWEDEN
1. Stockholm Archipelago
If you do not get out of the city of Stockholm and see some of the Archipelago you are really missing out. I visited Dalarö, it is a quaint little village that is pretty easy to get to. I headed out there, had a walk around and found somewhere to eat and just took in all the atmosphere. You can take a train and then a bus. I got a day ticket for $115Kr.
2. Stockholm Underground System
The Stockholm subway system is said to be the world's longest art exhibit - 110 kilometers long.Traveling by subway is like traveling through an exciting story that extends from the artistic pioneers of the 1950s to the art experiments of today.Over 90 of the 100 subway stations in Stockholm have been decorated with sculptures, mosaics, paintings, installations, engravings and reliefs by over 150 artists. The Kungsträdgården subway station looks like an archaeological excavation, with the remains of the old Stockholm Makalös palace. At Östermalmstorg the artist Siri Derkert highlights women's rights and peace and environmental issues.
3. Gamla Stan (Old Town)
Gamla Stan, the Old Town, is one of the largest and best preserved medieval city centers in Europe, and one of the foremost attractions in Stockholm. This is where Stockholm was founded in 1252.All of Gamla Stan and the adjacent island of Riddarholmen are like a living pedestrian-friendly museum full of sights, attractions, restaurants, cafés, bars and places to shop. Gamla Stan is also popular with aficionados of handicrafts, curios and souvenirs. The narrow winding cobblestone streets, with their buildings in so many different shades of gold, give Gamla Stan its unique character. Even now cellar vaults and frescoes from the Middle Ages can be found behind the visible facades, and on snowy winter days the district feels like something from a story book.

5. Go Off Track
Swedes, and Stockholmers in particular, love their coffee. 7. Southern Archipelago (Gothenburg)
The really great thing about the southern Goteborg Archipelago is that you can get there cheap without car! The tram goes all the way to where the boats take off, and for the same ticket (and fee) you carry on by boat to one of the islands. Vargo is an hour away, and the boat ride itself is a treat. On Brännö and Styrsö you can have a meal, but the most genuine way to experience the archipelago is to bring your own picnic and stay out all day.

9. Try Fika
Asking someone to fika with you is a way of meeting informally, without pressures. While every konditori (pastry shop) will offer a full range of treats to choose from, during a fika the sweet bun or “bulle” reigns supreme. There are cardamom buns, vanilla buns, pistachio-filled buns and some cafes have developed their own special recipes, like Vetekatten in Stockholm where they created a mjölnargårdsbulle containing a buttery steamed custard.
10. Don't Miss the Ferry!!
There are only two ferries daily that leave the Island, miss one and you're stuck there for the rest of the day.
11. Street Party! - Gothenburg
The Gothenburg Culture Festival is one giant street party attracting some 700,000 festival-goers to its downtown party area – and is all for free. Expect live music, dance, design/fashion, film, street artists, handicraft, history, comedy, poetry and theatre. Phew. This 6-day party takes place in August and Gothenburg wants you to come.
14. Appreciate Street Artists
They play day in day out, through rain through shine, for your free entertainment - spare them some change! BUT don't get scammed by the fake artists though (normally two middle-aged men playing violin and cello.
15. Swedish Fine Dining
Save up enough money to indulge for a signature Swedish beer with a beautiful seafood scampi and mushroom risotto.

The Øresund Bridge is a 16 km direct link between Denmark and Sweden.Øreund Bridge opened in 2000 and since then thousands of cars and trains have crossed the strait between Denmark and Sweden.The bridge consists of both a bridge, a tunnel and the artificial island Peberholmen. The Stockholm subway system is said to be the world's longest art exhibit - 110 kilometers long.Traveling by subway is like traveling through an exciting story that extends from the artistic pioneers of the 1950s to the art experiments of today.Over 90 of the 100 subway stations in Stockholm have been decorated with sculptures, mosaics, paintings, installations, engravings and reliefs by over 150 artists. On Brännö and Styrsö you can have a meal, but the most genuine way to experience the archipelago is to bring your own picnic and stay out all day.

The Gothenburg Culture Festival is one giant street party attracting some 700,000 festival-goers to its downtown party area – and is all for free.
