NLWA 2012 Opening Speech (International President)
January 22, 2012- “God of Night and God of Day”
Openning Address to NLWA 2012 by International President- An especially insightful description of the meaning behind his "hoodie."
The following is the speech of International President Rev. Hyung Jin Moon to national leaders at the International Leadership Conference (ILC) opening plenary at the Cheon-Bok-Gung on January 22, 2012, the day before True God’s Day.
I hope you like my sweatshirt. You may have seen this symbol somewhere.
Because we are now chasing Father wherever he goes around the world, we basically live out of our car. We’re always packed, we’re always ready to go, whether on the boat, on the bay – wherever. It’s a very amazing experience.
A couple of days ago, Father asked me to explain the markings on this sweater. As you know, this is the symbol of the Principle. And when we manifest the Principle – give-and-take action, the Four Position Foundation, the three blessings – the purpose of creation is all here. On the right arm you will see a character that says Cheon-bu, which means True Father. On the left arm you will see a character that says Cheon-mo, which means True Mother.
And on the back you will see all sorts of characters written vertically. They are probably my favorite characters. The first one is the character True Father gave me, which he said was his most favorite Chinese character. It means “sincerity,” “devotion.” It means actualizing your speech or your words. The second means “love.” That is True Mother’s character. The third is “filial piety.” The fourth is “attending, serving.” The other one is “courage.” The other one is “faith,” and the other one is “eternity.”
When we are attending True Parents and True Parents’ staff are around them, running around here and there, whether on the boat or on the way to different countries, I found that having these kinds of reminders help me re-center myself. Especially when I was in North Korea, where we can’t speak freely, where society is not free. We always had people monitoring us, which was very strange. But I derived a lot of strength just from looking at something as simple as the Tongil symbol. It gave me so much strength when I was in a land where I couldn’t speak. True Parents, Cheon-bu-mo-nim.
The Kingdom of Heaven Is Where God Is
We’re very grateful that we’re able to be with True Parents and learn from many new experiences. I really feel that being with True Parents teaches me something very important about the biblical text. When we look at the biblical presence of Christ, I see True Father. We usually imagine Christ to be of the medieval age, which is much softer, very peaceful. But if you look at Scripture, you see that Christ is very active. Of course, historically, Christ is always called a revolutionary. He’s extremely flamboyant. He’s very against the status quo, whether it is deism or Roman powers – truly a revolutionary figure.
I find in attending Father and having the work of being with him wherever he goes, that this is how the apostles must have felt when they were chasing around Jesus. As you know, Jesus would suddenly say, “Today we’re going to Galilee,” or “Today we will go to Jordan,” or “Today we’re going to go to Jerusalem.” There’s no convenient, weekly plan, there’s no nice “I know what I’m going to do on Saturday and Sunday and probably Monday.”
I have no idea what I will be doing tomorrow. It all depends on how Father moves, where he moves. If he flies out to New Zealand, then we’re off to New Zealand. If he goes to Siberia, we’re also off to Siberia. It’s not always peaches and coconuts. In looking at the scripture, you can see Christ also standing on the front line of the Providence, which is moving rapidly. He’s constantly on the spot, the living presence of the Providence.
As you know, when Christ is asked, “Where is the Kingdom of Heaven? Where is the Kingdom of God?” we have some translations that say “God is within you.” Another translation could be, “The Kingdom of Heaven is about you,” or “We are in the midst of the Kingdom of Heaven.” I think that translation is quite interesting because it answers the question, “Where is the Kingdom of Heaven?” The Kingdom of Heaven is where Christ is. It’s very simple. That’s where the Kingdom of Heaven is.
The Kingdom of Heaven is where God is, where Christ is. So if Christ is in our hearts, then that’s where the Kingdom of Heaven resides. If he’s in our thoughts and words, then those things can be of the Kingdom.
For me, one of the biggest challenges when we are tailing True Parents and following them is the spiritual practice. Father doesn’t stop practicing. He doesn’t stop craving God and loving God and serving God and attending God. Just yesterday he asked me to speak at hoon-dok-hwe. I was talking about hoon-dok-hwe and about the many months we’ve been fo

Muncipal Bath - Dundee Die Hards
Throughout our explorations of Dundee there was one site that got us excited from the outset and that was the Union Street Municipal Bath. We had stumbled upon pictures of the pool (opened in 1924) while sifting through the Talana archives.
Apparently the pool dried up a few years after the Municipality sold it to the neighbouring junior school.
This site was mentioned in several of our oral history interviewees’ recollections, and often referred to as one of the relics of Dundee’s “Golden Years”. There are numerous theories around why the facility was abandoned.
An elderly Zulu man we chatted to told us that post 1994 a bitter resident --determined not to see the facility become a multi-racial one—ensured it was closed down rather than shared. We were also told that in recent years the pool had failed to attract much interest, perhaps due to the fact that most bathers were from Dundee’s affluent suburbs and eventually had private pools installed on their own properties.
Since arriving In Dundee we were keen to work with the local re-enactment group The Dundee Die Hard’s and decided the deep-end of this abandoned pool would be the perfect stage for our collaboration. It took a morning to prep the venue, sweeping several bin loads of foliage and smashed glass from out of its interior. Die Hard team leader Gavin Slater managed to convince his Red Coat army to participate while the visiting Siwela Sonke performers (and our co-collaborator Bongikosi Ngobese) doubled as our Zulu Impi.
We were excited by the possibilities of using the space at night, lugging in a generator and experimenting with our performers and some theatrical side- lighting. Our aim was to film several passes of the feuding re-enactors and (in post-production) layer them over one another to create scenes reminiscent of Anglo-Zulu War battle paintings.
The soundtrack is provided by sound recordings taken from two of Dundee’s operational public pools, the one situated in Sibongile and the other in Peacevale.
Cleaning and utilising the pool generated a large amount of interest and discussion in the local newspaper (The Courier) and on its Facebook page. Below are just a few of the comments posted on the site as a result of our activities.
Antony Ware Shocking that this pool was allowed to fall into such a state of disrepair!
Tracy Grobbelaar Gosh looks like a lot of stuff is abandoned in Dundee. I had a look on Google maps yesterday at the show grounds were I used to do horse riding....I almost started crying at the state of what I saw. Does nobody care anymore?
Ninette Du Plessis It’s shocking - drove past there a few weeks ago. Even the grass is not being cut - does this still belong to the municipality or privately owned. I suggest you turn this into a useful space rather than once for 'strange events' - turn it into a skate park for the kids!
Northern Natal Courier @Ninette the strange events may but propel the powers that be or some in the community to indeed get the pool to be a useful community facility again. See next week for news of said event in the pool.
Janine McCallum Very sad to see the state of that pool. Had many good times there while we young and still at school. I agree Tracy it is shocking at the state of the town in general. Was up there over a year ago to place a plaque up for my late dad and we appalled not just at the town but some of the house in general and especially our old house, it was so sad.
Gerhard Potgieter Wow! Small town mentality always amazes me. Firstly no one knows the nature of the activity in the photo but give negative remarks, not fair. At least something is happening in this negative space and it can possibly be the start of something new and positive. Problem is lots of small town people fall in a rut and all they do is complain and be negative. I see so much potential in Dundee every time I get there. When you live in a small town it is easier to do things yourself if council cant/wont. Changes like these also tend to stand out and evoke positive energy. Have any of you petitioned council regarding their unkempt premises? Why can't you people in conjunction the Courier make this the year of action? Let the Courier ask the hard questions. What stops anyone here to send an e-mail and post the reply and the timeline right here?
Stella Mckenzie Smuts The pool seemed so much deeper when it was full of water and I was very small!!!! Pity someone can't buy the whole area and develop it into a resort or fun park or someone - could be a draw card for visitors to Dundee.
Ninette Du Plessis @Gerhard. How can one not be negative when there was a stage when all was so well kept and now left to be as it is now. Positive would be for someone to turn this into a well used facility in time. Has really nothing to do with small town mentality and think that is rather harsh.
Janine McCallum I just think general smaller towns are not what they are anymore if it was not for

Abide and Conquer
INTRO STORY:
And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out to battle against the Philistines, and encamped beside Ebenezer; and the Philistines encamped in Aphek. Then the Philistines put themselves in battle array against Israel. And when they joined battle, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand men of the army in the field. And when the people had come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, "Why has the Lord defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord from Shiloh to us, that when it comes among us it may save us from the hand of our enemies." So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from there the ark of the covenant of the Lord of hosts, who dwells between the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phineas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God. And when the ark of the covenant of the Lord came into the camp, all Israel shouted so loudly that the earth shook. Now when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, "What does the sound of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews mean?" Then they understood that the ark of the Lord had come into the camp. So the Philistines were afraid, for they said, "God has come into the camp!" And they said, "Woe to us! For such a thing has never happened before. Woe to us! Who will deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods who struck the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness. Be strong and conduct yourselves like men, you Philistines, that you do not become servants of the Hebrews, as they have been to you. Conduct yourselves like men, and fight!" So the Philistines fought, and Israel was defeated, and every man fled to his tent. There was a very great slaughter, and there fell of Israel thirty thousand foot soldiers. Also the ark of God was captured; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phineas, died. 1 Samuel 4:1-11
Then she named the child Ichabod, saying, "The glory has departed from Israel!" because the ark of God had been captured and because of her father-in-law and her husband. And she said, "The glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been captured." 1 Samuel 4:21-22
The lesson from this story is one which applies to us today:
WHEN GOD'S PEOPLE TURN FROM HIM WITH A DIVIDED HEART, HE CAN ONLY HAND THEM OVER TO DEFEAT.
We have been gazing intently at the Real Jesus Christ that John saw on the isle of Patmos.
Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength. Revelation 1:12-16
This is the Jesus of the last days. This is the Jesus whom we will face one day. He has held the church in His hands all these years, and He has pleaded for us to love Him and love this world with His divine Love.
WE WILL ALL FACE THE BEMA
When we stand before the "bema" as Romans 14:10, it will be this Jesus Christ we face. We will behold His face shining in full strength, the full strength of His Divine Love. We will be judged by how we measured up to His Love.
We will be judged by whether we loved Him as it suited us or whether we loved with a love that risked it all, that gave all our comforts to Him.
We will be judged as the strength and endurance of our love, whether it endured the trials and testing’s.
We will be judged as to how we compromised our life to the things of this world.
We will be judged as to the strength of our righteousness
We will be judged as to the way we allowed Christ to distinguish our lives from the ungodly.
We will be judged as to whether our love was steadfast to the end.
We will be judged as to whether our love was zealous.
But most of all we will be judged as to whether we were conquerors!
Rev 2:7 - the one who conquers will eat of the tree of life in the paradise of God
Rev 2:11 - the one who conquers will not be hurt by the second death.
Rev 2:17 - the one who conquers will eat the hidden manna, receive a white stone with a new name written on the stone.
Rev 2:26 - the one who conquers and keeps my words til the end I will give authority over the nations and he will get the morning star.
Rev 3:5 - the one who conquers will be clothed in white garments, and Jesus will confess his name before the father and the angels and his name will never be blotted out of the book of life.
Rev 3:12 - the one who conquers will become a pillar in the temple of God, and receive three names , the name of God, the name of t
