This has been a great aircraft bomber for the Us air force The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress is a long-range, subsonic, jet-powered strategic bomber. The B-52 has been in active service with the USAF since 1955. As of 2012, 85 were in active service with nine in reserve. The bombers flew under the Strategic Air Command (SAC) until it was deactivated in 1992 and its aircraft absorbed into the Air Combat Command (ACC); in 2010 all B-52 Stratofortresses were transferred from the ACC to the new Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC). Superior performance at high subsonic speeds and relatively low operating costs have kept the B-52 in service despite the advent of later, more advanced aircraft, including the canceled Mach 3 B-70 Valkyrie, the variable-geometry B-1 Lancer, and the stealth B-2 Spirit. Design

The B-52 shared many technological similarities with the preceding Boeing B-47 Stratojet strategic bomber. The two aircraft used the same basic design, such as swept wings and podded jet engines,[74] and the cabin included the crew ejection systems.[75] On the B-52D, the pilots and electronic countermeasures (EDM) operator ejected upwards, while the lower deck crew ejected downwards; until the B-52G, the gunner had to jettison the tail gun to bail-out.[76]
Structural fatigue was accelerated by at least a factor of eight in a low-altitude flight profile over that of high-altitude flying, requiring costly repairs to extend service life. In the early 1960s, the three-phase High Stress program was launched to counter structural fatigue, enrolling aircraft at 2,000 flying hours.[78][79] Follow-up programs were conducted, such as a 2,000-hour service life extension to select airframes in 1966–1968, and the extensive Pacer Plank reskinning, completed in 1977.[72][80] The wet wing introduced on G and H models was even more susceptible to fatigue, experiencing 60% more stress during flight than the old wing. The wings were modified by 1964 under ECP 1050.[81] This was followed by a fuselage skin and longeron replacement (ECP 1185) in 1966, and the B-52 Stability Augmentation and Flight Control program (ECP 1195) in 1967.[81] Fuel leaks due to deteriorating Marman clamps continued to plague all variants of the B-52. To this end, the aircraft were subjected to Blue Band (1957), Hard Shell (1958), and finally QuickClip (1958) programs. The latter fitted safety straps that prevented catastrophic loss of fuel in case of clamp failure.[82]

It took off from Edwards Air Force Base with a 50/50 blend of Fischer-Tropsch process (FT) synthetic fuel and conventional JP-8 jet fuel, which burned in two of the eight engines.[83] On 15 December 2006, a B-52 took off from Edwards with the synthetic fuel powering all eight engines, the first time an air force aircraft was entirely powered by the blend. The seven-hour flight was considered a success.[83] This program is part of the Department of Defense Assured Fuel Initiative, which aims to reduce crude oil usage and obtain half of its aviation fuel from alternative sources by 2016.[83] On 8 August 2007, Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne certified the B-52H as fully approved to use the FT blend.[84]

Ongoing problems with avionics systems were addressed in the Jolly Well program, completed in 1964, which improved components of the AN/ASQ-38 bombing navigational computer and the terrain computer. The MADREC (Malfunction Detection and Recording) upgrade fitted to most aircraft by 1965 could detect failures in avionics and weapons computer systems, and was essential in monitoring the Hound Dog missiles. The electronic countermeasures capability of the B-52 was expanded with Rivet Rambler (1971) and Rivet Ace (1973).[85]

Convair B-36 Peacemaker History
During the 1970s the last B-36 built by Convair was on display at a now-defunct outdoor aviation museum. The non-profit museum contracted a video production company to create a video history of the airplane. Unfortunately, the medium of that time was VHS tape and after a few decades all copies have deteriorated and are now essentially non-viewable. Thankfully, the audio has survived and provides a superb narration of the B-36 story. I hope you will enjoy my attempt to salvage this video by overlaying most of the original video with new video clips and still images while retaining the narration. Running time is 55 minutes. Most material in this video is in the public domain, the rest is my creation.

The Convair B-36 "Peacemaker" was a strategic bomber built by Convair and operated solely by the United States Air Force (USAF) from 1949 to 1959. The B-36 was the largest mass-produced piston engine aircraft ever made. It had the longest wingspan of any combat aircraft ever built (230 ft, 70.1 m), although there have been larger military transports. The B-36 was the first bomber capable of delivering any of the nuclear weapons in the US arsenal from inside its two bomb bays without aircraft modifications. Produced by the Stanley Aviation Corp. as part of their contract for Convair, "Escape and Survive" details the development of the escape capsule for the B-58 Hustler. Convair's B-58 was the first operational supersonic jet bomber capable of Mach 2 flight, and that aspect posed a unique challenge for aircrew survival. The solution was a large crew capsule that would eliminate the effects of wind blast. The B-58 aircraft was designed by Convair engineer Robert H. With the launch of the the B-47 Stratojet, the US Air Force jumped in a single decade from B-17 and B-24 bombers lumbering at 200 mph over Germany to a 600 mph swept wing jet capable (with air refueling) of hitting intercontinental targets. As the USA's first swept-wing multi engine bomber, she was one of the most influential designs in aircraft history.
Boeing's original jet bomber blueprint in 1943 was for a straight winged aircraft based on the B-29 fuselage. 1n 1945, Boeing aerodynamicist George Schairer went to Germany to sift through captured aircraft data. One variant became a missile carrier while others were outstandingly successful reconnaissance aircraft that penetrated deep into the Soviet Union in the 1950s. Between 1947 and 1956, a total of 2,032 B-47s in all variants were built and the Stratojet stayed in service well into the 1960s.

This film is a 1950s time capsule from the Cold War. I remember hiding under my desk during "duck and cover" Civil Defense drills when I was a kid in elementary school. See the design, development and manufacturing of the Boeing B-47 Stratojet, the US Air Force's first operational long range jet bomber. Then you'll follow a crew from SAC's McConnell Air Force Base (3250th Combat Crew Training Wing) on a training mission that simulates a night attack using a practice target in the US. There are some great shots of the Stratojet on the ground and in the air, including night air refueling. You'll also hear crew dialog as they work through various procedures during the bomb run.

In 1954 the Air Force conducted a series of maneuver tests that showcased the B-47's outstanding agility. Theses tests were specifically designed to explore the B-47s ability to "toss bomb." The aircraft would approach the target low and at high speed, pull up sharply, open bomb bay doors, use momentum to literally fling the bomb towards the target and then execute the rest of a half loop Immelman turn so that they were flying back in the opposite direction at the top of the loop. This maneuver allowed the bomber to drop nuclear and high explosive weapons at low altitudes without danger of blast damage or flying directly over heavily defended targets. Seeing the big, sleek B-47 execute this maneuver (and barrel rolls too!) is truly memorable. Cameras located all over the aircraft give unique views during the test flights

During the 1970s the last B-36 built by Convair was on display at a now-defunct outdoor aviation museum. The non-profit museum contracted a video production company to create a video history of the airplane. Unfortunately, the medium of that time was VHS tape and after a few decades all copies have deteriorated and are now essentially non-viewable. Thankfully, the audio has survived and provides a superb narration of the B-36 story. I hope you will enjoy my attempt to salvage this video by overlaying most of the original video with new video clips and still images while retaining the narration. Running time is 55 minutes. Most material in this video is in the public domain, the rest is my creation.

It used a delta wing, which was also employed by Convair fighters such as the F-102, with four General Electric J79 engines in pods under the wing. It carried a nuclear weapon and fuel in a large pod under the fuselage rather than in an internal bomb bay.
Replacing the Boeing B-47 Stratojet medium bomber, it was originally intended to fly at high altitudes and supersonic speeds to avoid Soviet fighters. The B-58 received a great deal of notoriety due to its sonic boom, which was often heard by the public as it passed overhead in supersonic flight.
The introduction of highly accurate Soviet surface-to-air missiles forced the B-58 into a low-level penetration role that severely limited its range and strategic value, and it was never employed to deliver conventional bombs. This led to a brief operational career between 1960 and 1970, when the B-58 was succeeded by the smaller, swing-wing FB-111A.
Stanley Aviation Inc. was founded in 1948 by Robert M. Stanley, a former Naval Aviator, with considerable experience in the Aviation field. Mr. Stanley had been the Vice President of Engineering at Bell Aircraft, participating in many flight test and engineering programs including the Bell X-1, and X-2 programs. The company designed and built many diverse products prior to entering into the escape and egress engineering field.

The Pratt & Whitney J57 (company designation: JT3C) was an axial-flow turbojet engine developed by Pratt & Whitney in the early 1950s. The J57 was the first 10,000 lbf (45 kN) thrust class engine in the United States. The J57/JT3C was developed into the J75/JT4A turbojet, JT3D/TF33 turbofan and the PT5/T57 turboprop.
Design and development
The J57 was a development of the XT45 (PT4) turboprop engine intended for the XB-52. As the B-52 power requirements grew, the design evolved into a turbojet, the JT3. The prestigious Collier Trophy for 1952 was awarded to Leonard S. Hobbs, Chief Engineer of United Aircraft Corporation, for "designing and producing the P&W; J57 turbojet engine". On May 25, 1953, a J57-powered YF-100A exceeded Mach 1 on its maiden flight. The engine was produced from 1951 to 1965 with a total of 21,170 built.

Training film for USAF maintenance technicians on the Pratt & Whitney J57 turbojet engine. The J57 was the first jet engine to produce 10,000 pounds of thrust, and was used on many aircraft including the Boeing B-52, KC-135 and 707, the North American F-100 Super Sabre, the McDonnell F-101 Voodoo, the Convair F-102 Delta Dagger, the Martin B-57 Canberra, the Vought F-8 Crusader, the Lockheed U-2, and the Douglas A3D, F4D, and F5D.

The Pratt & Whitney J57 (company designation: JT3C) was an axial-flow turbojet engine developed by Pratt & Whitney in the early 1950s. The J57 was the first 10,000 lbf (45 kN) thrust class engine in the United States. The J57/JT3C was developed into the J75/JT4A turbojet, JT3D/TF33 turbofan and the PT5/T57 turboprop.
Design and development
The J57 was a development of the XT45 (PT4) turboprop engine intended for the XB-52. As the B-52 power requirements grew, the design evolved into a turbojet, the JT3. The prestigious Collier Trophy for 1952 was awarded to Leonard S. Hobbs, Chief Engineer of United Aircraft Corporation, for "designing and producing the P&W; J57 turbojet engine". On May 25, 1953, a J57-powered YF-100A exceeded Mach 1 on its maiden flight. The engine was produced from 1951 to 1965 with a total of 21,170 built.
One XT57 was installed in the nose of a C-124 (BuNo 52-1069), and tested in 1956...
