Als Deutsche ist die bekannte Meditationslehrerin und buddhistische Nonne Ayya Khema mit dem Denken und der Psyche der Westler vertraut, sodass sie ihre Erklärungen der Buddhalehre einfach, verständlich und nachvollziehbar weitergeben kann. In dem Vortrag "Sei dir selbst eine Insel" spricht sie unter anderem darüber, wie wir im Spirituellen eine innere Zuflucht finden können und deshalb keine äußere Zuflucht mehr brauchen.
Sie gibt klare Hinweise, wie wir die Achtsamkeit auf den Körper so üben können, dass wir für Momente ganz im Hier und Jetzt ankommen. Weiterhin erläutert sie, worin unser Lebenssinn besteht und wie wir diesen erfüllen können. Wenn wir uns ihren berührenden Worten öffnen, dann können sie tatsächlich unser Leben verändern.

Dennis Moorby ‘Freedom Through the Path of The Jhanas’ Interview by Iain McNay
Dennis was a successful business executive in London when he went with a friend to India and looked into the eyes of his friend's Guru. He saw a really happy man with sparking eyes. He returned home to find his wife of 17 years wanted to leave him and he was no longer motivated to do his high powered job. He went on a spiritual adventure which culminated in his creating his own 'cave in the mountains' which was in fact an apartment in a small German village. There he spent 18 months meditating for 8 hours a day working through the path of the Jhanas as outlined by Ayya Khema, until he found freedom.

Kheema Pav
Ingredients
500 grams minced mutton (kheema)
1 cup green peas
2 tablespoons saffola oil
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1½ inch ginger piece, chopped
10 garlic cloves, chopped
2 green chillies, minced
3 medium onions, chopped
4 large tomatoes, pureed
1½ tablespoons coriander powder
½ teaspoon cumin powder
2 teaspoons red chilli powder
Salt to taste
1 tablespoon fresh mint leaves, chopped
1 tablespoon lemon juice
½ teaspoon garam masala powder
4 whole wheat pav
Method
1. Place the mutton mince in a bowl, add one cup water and mix, breaking the lumps as you mix.
2. Heat oil in an on stick wok. Add cumin seeds and when they turn brown add ginger and garlic and sauté till browned.
3. Add green chillies and mix. Add the onions and sauté till well browned.
4. Add the tomato puree and sauté for four to five minutes.
5. Add coriander powder, cumin powder and mix. Add a little water to the red chilli powder and mix well to make a paste. Add one tablespoon of this paste and mix well. Sauté for two to three minutes or till the oil begins to separate.
6. Add salt and the mutton mince and mix well. cook till the mince is cooked and most of the moisture evaporates leaving a thick gravy.
7. Add mint leaves, lemon juice and garam masala powder. Mix well. Add the green peas and mix. Simmer for two minutes.
8. Serve hot with pav.

Khema was one of the two chief female disciples of Buddha (the other being Uppalavanna).
The name Khema means well-composed and she was quite beautiful. The nun belonged to the royal family of Magadha and was one of the chief queens of King Bimbisara.
She did not want to meet the Buddha as she knew he did not care much about beauty, and she was very self conscious about hers. She heard about the Buddha from her husband who encouraged her to hear his sermons and told her how beautiful Buddha's monastery was. Very interested in seeing beautiful things, decked out in royal splendor, she went to the monastery of Lord Buddha. There Buddha saw her approaching and created an exceptionally beautiful maiden by his side, whose beauty surpassed her own. Khema was captivated, seeing this, Buddha slowly aged the maiden :
Khema was finally willing to listen to Buddha, after his sermons, she attained full enlightenment, she became an arahant. With her husband's permission, she joined the order of nuns.

In dem Vortrag "Sei dir selbst eine Insel" spricht sie unter anderem darüber, wie wir im Spirituellen eine innere Zuflucht finden können und deshalb keine äußere Zuflucht mehr brauchen.
Sie gibt klare Hinweise, wie wir die Achtsamkeit auf den Körper so üben können, dass wir für Momente ganz im Hier und Jetzt ankommen. 1½ tablespoons coriander powder
½ teaspoon cumin powder
2 teaspoons red chilli powder
Salt to taste
1 tablespoon fresh mint leaves, chopped
1 tablespoon lemon juice
½ teaspoon garam masala powder
4 whole wheat pav
Method
1. Place the mutton mince in a bowl, add one cup water and mix, breaking the lumps as you mix.
2. Heat oil in an on stick wok. Add cumin seeds and when they turn brown add ginger and garlic and sauté till browned.
3. Add green chillies and mix. Add the onions and sauté till well browned.
4. Add the tomato puree and sauté for four to five minutes.
5. Add coriander powder, cumin powder and mix. Add a little water to the red chilli powder and mix well to make a paste. Add one tablespoon of this paste and mix well. Sauté for two to three minutes or till the oil begins to separate.
6. Add salt and the mutton mince and mix well. cook till the mince is cooked and most of the moisture evaporates leaving a thick gravy.
7. Add mint leaves, lemon juice and garam masala powder. Mix well. Add the green peas and mix. Simmer for two minutes.
8. Serve hot with pav.
