The setting was right, the flow of the situation was calm, the mood was perfect. You can sense their feelings for each other were sincere. A little background leading to the confession; Kaoru is Junichi's friend since they were middle school and they treated each other like pals. Now juniors in high school; Kaoru asked Junichi to help her with her friend on how to handle a situation about a guy. Kaoru was impressed on how Junichi acted mature and started to appreciate this side of him. She slowly realized that there were so many traits Junichi had that made him really reliable, especially when she was put a situation wherein she had to deal with something major she never dealt before then Junichi helped her through it. Junichi likewise sees Kaoru as one of the guys and treats her like a buddy exchanging jabs and insults until he sees her as a positive diligent girl. He never thought that under her fun loving laid back demeanor was a loyal and hard working girl which he found attractive.
