Melville Brandt (June 18, 1919 – March 14, 2008) was an actor and NBC staff announcer. He was born in Brooklyn, New York.

Brandt joined the network around 1948. His radio announcing credits included The Adventures of Frank Merriwell, Author Meets the Critics, and The Eternal Light. In 1975, he announced for a syndicated radio program called Faces of Love.

On television, Brandt's familiar voice was heard over the second animated version of the NBC Peacock from 1962 to 1975, announcing that the program was in "living color" on NBC. He also announced the opening of the television soap opera, The Doctors. His introduction was "The Doctors: The Emmy Award winning program, dedicated to the brotherhood of healing." He was also announcer on GE College Bowl on NBC from 1963 to 1970; his introduction was "Match wits with the champions in America's favorite question and answer game, live from New York, the General Electric College Bowl," and after a brief plug for General Electric would introduce "the man with the questions, Robert Earle."

Irwin Allen (June 12, 1916 – November 2, 1991) was a television and film director and producer nicknamed "The Master of Disaster" for his work in the disaster film genre. He was also notable for creating a number of television series.

Allen was born in New York City. His film credits include the 3-D film Dangerous Mission (1954), The Animal World (1956), The Story of Mankind (1957), The Big Circus (1959), The Lost World (1960), Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1961) (later the basis of his TV series of the same name), and Five Weeks in a Balloon (1962). In the 1970's, he produced popular disaster films including The Poseidon Adventure (1972) and The Towering Inferno (1974).

In the 1960s, Allen moved into television as "the most successful science-fiction producer of the decade", and was responsible for series such as:

Allen also produced several TV movies, such as City Beneath the Sea, which recycled many props and models from Voyage, Lost in Space, and Man From The 25th Century. Both were intended as pilots for new TV series projects, but his small-screen success from the 1960s largely eluded him in the 1970s. Allen's science-fiction series had earned a reputation for using nonsensical science and for catering to juvenile audiences.^{[citation needed]}Lost in Space's Bill Mumy said of Allen that, while he was very good at writing television pilots that sold, his unwillingness to spend money hurt his shows' quality once on the air. A monster costume that appeared on one of his shows, for example, would appear on another a few weeks later with new paint. In his book Irwin Allen Television Productions, 1964-1970 (McFarland & Co. Publishers, 2006), writer Jon Abbott described Allen as paradoxical. "Here was a man who, when told the cost of a spaceship for a Lost in Space alien, snapped, 'Let him walk!' ... and then let the show be canceled rather than take a cut in the budget."

Melvyn Jerome Davis (born November 9, 1950 in New York, New York) is an American former professional basketball player.

A 6'6" forward from St. John's University, Davis played four seasons (1973 to 1977) in the National Basketball Association as a member of the New York Knicks and New York Nets. He averaged 5.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in his NBA career.

After taking his basketball career to Europe, where he played in Italy, France, and Switzerland, Davis oversaw the marketing division of Pepsico. Shortly after, he returned to the NBA and began a long career running player programs; orientating rookies and helping players make a smooth transition to the world post-basketball. In 2005, he was personally appointed by David Stern and accepted the position of Executive Director of the National Basketball Retired Players Association.

Davis holds a marketing degree from St. John's, master's degrees in psychology and counseling from Fordham University, and a master's degree in career planning from New York University.

Robert Haymes (March 29, 1923 - January 27, 1989), also known under the stage names Robert Stanton and Bob Stanton, was an American singer, songwriter, actor and radio and television host. He is best remembered today for co-writing the song "That's All", considered part of the Great American Songbook. He was the younger brother of singer and actor Dick Haymes.

Haymes was born in White Plains, New York to parents of Irish descent from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He had an older brother by seven years, Dick Haymes, who was born when the family was still in Argentina, and who would later achieve great fame as an actor and singer.

Haymes began his career in the early 1940s as a vocalist in the bands of Carl Hoff and Bob Chester.

In 1942 Haymes began work, under the name "Bob Stanton", for the radio show Gillette Cavalcade of Sports. He continued with the program until 1946, when it was turned into a television show on NBC; he then became the host of the television show until 1949. He also began to serve as the host of other NBC shows, all under the name "Bob Stanton", including game show Campus Hoopla during the show's run from 1946 to 1947, Television Screen Magazine in 1948, the country music show Village Barn in 1949, and the show Around the Town in 1950.

Stingy Jack, perhaps also known as Jack the Smith, Drunk Jack, and Jack of the Lantern, is a mythical character apparently associated with All Hallows Eve. It is common lore that the "jack-o'-lantern" is derived from the character.^{[citation needed]}

As the story goes, several centuries ago amongst the myriad of towns and villages in Ireland, there lived a drunkard known as "Stingy Jack". Jack was known throughout the land as a deceiver, manipulator and otherwise dreg of society. On a fateful night, the devil overheard the tale of Jack's evil deeds and silver tongue. Unconvinced (and envious) of the rumors, the devil went to find out for himself whether or not Jack lived up to his vile reputation.

Typical of Jack, he was drunk and wandering through the countryside at night when he came upon a body on his cobblestone path. The body with an eerie grimace on its face turned out to be the Devil. Jack realized somberly this was his end; the devil had finally come to collect his malevolent soul. Jack made a last request: he asked the devil to let him drink ale before he departed to hell. Finding no reason not to acquiesce the request, the devil took Jack to the local pub and supplied him with many alcoholic beverages. Upon quenching his thirst, Jack asked the devil to pay the tab on the ale, to the devil's surprise. Jack convinced the devil to metamorphose into a silver coin with which to pay the bartender (impressed upon by Jack's unyielding nefarious tactics). Shrewdly, Jack stuck the now transmogrified devil (coin) into his pocket, which also contained a crucifix. The crucifix's presence prevented the devil from escaping his form. This coerced the devil to agree to Jack's demand: in exchange for the devil's freedom, the devil had to spare Jack's soul for 10 years.
