Kalon Dicki Chhoyang of the Department of Information & International Relations of the Central Tibetan Administration addressed the swearing-in ceremony of Mr Henri Malosse, the newly-elected president of the European Economic and Social Committee of the European Union in Brussels on 18 April 2013. Kalon Dicki Chhoyang spoke about the tremendous support generated by the Middle-Way Approach among the civil society in China as a mutually-beneficial solution to the issue of Tibet. She also spoke about how an engaged civil society can effect a meaningful change and bring a lasting and positive impact in the development of a community or a country.

At a UN global summit in September 2015 world leaders shall adopt the Post-2015 agenda for sustainable development, building on the Millennium Development Goals, integrating them with the broader objectives of global sustainable development and establishing a set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030. However, there are still challenges to face if the Post-2015 summit is to be a success. On 5 February the Commission issued a Communication on A Global Partnership for Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Development after 2015 describing key issues to be tackled. The Council will define its position in May. At the UN headquarters inter-governmental negotiations have started. The outcome of the 3rd International Conference on Finance for Development in July will be crucial for the Post-2015 agenda.
Sustainable Development Observatory is organising a public event on 14 April Setting the agenda for a sustainable future - the road to the UN summit on the Post-2015 agenda. With this event the Sustainable Development Observatory wishes to raise political awareness of the Post-2015 agenda and provide a forum for a discussion between political decision-makers and civil society. Gustavo Martin Prada, Director, European Commission will present the roadmap to the summit. Maryam Niamir-Fuller, Special Advisor on Post-2015 of the UNEP's Executive Director and Kitty van der Heyden, World Resources Insitute, will discuss key elements of Post-2015 framework. Representatives from civil society organisations will put forward their views on the Commission Communication and discuss with the representatives from the Commission, the Council of the EU and the audience.

European Economic and Social Committee
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is a consultative body of the European Union (EU) established in 1958. It is an advisory assembly composed of "social partners", namely: employers (employers' organisations), employees (trade unions) and representatives of various other interests. Its seat, which it shares with the Committee of the Regions, is the Jacques Delors building on 99 Rue Belliard in Brussels. Once known by the acronym "EcoSoc", the body is now referred to as the "EESC", to avoid confusions with the United Nations ECOSOC.
Role
It was established by the Treaty of Rome of 1957 in order to unite different economic interest groups to establish a Single Market. The creation of this committee gave them an institution to allow their voices to be heard by the European Commission, the Council and the European Parliament. The EESC declares itself to be "a bridge between Europe and organised civil society".
It is mandatory for the Committee to be consulted on those issues stipulated in the Treaties and in all cases where the institutions deem it appropriate. The Treaty of Maastricht considerably enlarged the Committee's domain. Its influence now extends to matters such as social policy, social and economic cohesion, environment, education, health, customers protection, industry, Trans-European Networks, indirect taxation and structural funds. On certain issues the EESC works in partnership with the Committee of the Regions.

The outcome of the 3rd International Conference on Finance for Development in July will be crucial for the Post-2015 agenda.
Sustainable Development Observatory is organising a public event on 14 April Setting the agenda for a sustainable future - the road to the UN summit on the Post-2015 agenda. With this event the Sustainable Development Observatory wishes to raise political awareness of the Post-2015 agenda and provide a forum for a discussion between political decision-makers and civil society. Gustavo Martin Prada, Director, European Commission will present the roadmap to the summit. Maryam Niamir-Fuller, Special Advisor on Post-2015 of the UNEP's Executive Director and Kitty van der Heyden, World Resources Insitute, will discuss key elements of Post-2015 framework. Representatives from civil society organisations will put forward their views on the Commission Communication and discuss with the representatives from the Commission, the Council of the EU and the audience.
