The All Saints Church in Henley Brook is the oldest[1] church in Western Australia. It was built by Richard Edwards between 1838 and 1840 with the first service taking place on 10 January 1841. The site is on a small hill overlooking the Swan River and near the conjunction of the Swan and Ellen Brook. This site was where Captain James Stirling camped during his 1827 exploration of the area.

Fremantle (colloquially known as 'Freo') is a port city in Western Australia, located 19 kilometres (12 mi) southwest of Perth, the state capital, at the mouth of the Swan River on Australia's western coast. It was the first settlement of the Swan River Colonists in 1829. It was declared a city in 1929, and has a population of approximately 26,000.
The city is named after Charles Fremantle, the English naval officer who had pronounced possession of Western Australia and who established the camp at the site. The city contains well preserved buildings and other heritage sites. The Western Australian vernacular diminutive for Fremantle is "Freo".

Fremantle lies on a series of limestone hills known by the Nyungar people as Booyeembara; the sandplain to the east is Gardoo. The original vegetation of the area was mainly Xanthorrhoea and eucalyptus trees, being fired annually (in late spring or summer) by the traditional owners.
Fremantle is the end of a train line that runs from Perth to Fremantle, run by the WA's Public Transport Authority.
Fremantle is subject to weather and climate relative to seaside communities - to the point that the regular sea breeze is known as the Fremantle Doctor, as it has a cooling effect to provide relief from the summer heat.
On 25 April 1829, the ship HMS Challenger under the guidance of Captain Fremantle had arrived in the waters off the Fremantle coast to make preparations for the Swan River Colony.
On 2 May 1829, Captain Fremantle formally took possession on behalf of King George IV of the entire west coast of New Holland in a ceremony conducted just near the south head of the Swan River. A few days later a camp was set up in a bay just south of the head, and Fremantle has been occupied ever since.
A month later, on 1 June Captain James Stirling on the Parmelia arrived to officially set up the Swan River Colony. Perth itself was not settled until 12 August that year.
Captain Fremantle left the colony on 25 August after providing much assistance to Stirling in setting up the colony. It was then that Stirling decided to name the port settlement 'Fremantle'.
In 1897, Irish-born engineer C. Y. O'Connor deepened Fremantle harbour and removed the limestone bar and sand shoals across the entrance to the Swan River, thus rendering Fremantle a serviceable port for commercial shipping. Fremantle still serves as the chief general seaport for Western Australia, though far greater tonnages are exported from the iron-ore ports of the Pilbara.
Fremantle has seen many industrial conflicts, the most famous of which occurred in 1919 when rioting broke out during "the lumpers' strike", resulting in one death and many injuries.
During World War II, Fremantle was the second largest base for Allied submarines operating in the Pacific theatre. There were up to 125 US, 31 British and 11 Free Dutch submarines operating out of Fremantle, until the Americans moved forward to the Philippines. The movements and presence of USS Sturgeon (SS-187) is a good example of such activity.

PERTH HISTORY The island was given its present name by the Dutch fleet captain Willem de Vlamingh on 29 December 1696. De Vlamingh described the indigenous marsupial called a quokka as a large rat ("rattenest" meaning "rat's nest" in the Dutch language). WIKIPEDIA Other explorers who stopped at the island included members of the French expedition of Nicholas Baudin in 1801 and 1803, Phillip Parker King in 1822, and Captain James Stirling in 1827. They commonly reported that much of the island was heavily wooded, which is not the case today. In 1830, shortly after the establishment of the British Swan River Colony at nearby Fremantle, Robert Thomson settled on the island with his wife and seven children. Thomson developed pasture land west of Herschel Lake as well as salt harvesting and refining from the several salt lakes which was then exported to the mainland settlement. Salt was an important commodity before the advent of refrigeration. The main settlement at Thomson Bay is named for him.

Stirling (Gaelic: Sruighlea pronounced [ˈs̪t̪ruʝlə]) is a city and former ancient burgh in Scotland, and is at the heart of the wider Stirling council area. The city is clustered around a large fortress and medieval old-town beside the River Forth. Historically it was strategically important as the "Gateway to the Highlands", with its position near the boundary between the Scottish Lowlands and Highlands, and its crossing of the Forth, the nearest to the river mouth.
Once the capital of Scotland, Stirling contains the Great Hall (restored 1999) and the Renaissance Palace (restoration completed 2011) within the Castle that rivalled any building in Europe at the time. Stirling also has its medieval parish church, The Church of the Holy Rude, where King James VI was crowned King of Scots on 29 July 1567. The Holy Rude still functions as living church with a service every Sunday.
Stirling is a centre for local government, higher education, retail, and light industry. Its population in 2008 was 33,710, for Stirling itself, the wider urban area including Bridge of Allan and Bannockburn has a population of 45,750. This makes it the smallest city in Scotland: indeed it is smaller than many of Scotland's larger towns.

The All Saints Church in Henley Brook is the oldest[1] church in Western Australia. It was built by Richard Edwards between 1838 and 1840 with the first service taking place on 10 January 1841. The site is on a small hill overlooking the Swan River and near the conjunction of the Swan and Ellen Brook. This site was where Captain James Stirling camped during his 1827 exploration of the area. -

PERTH HISTORY The island was given its present name by the Dutch fleet captain Willem de Vlamingh on 29 December 1696. Perth was founded in 1829 by Captain James Stirling as the political centre of the free settler Swan River Colony, Perth has continued to serve as the seat of Government for Western Australia to the present day.
The metropolitan area is located in the south west of the continent between the Indian Ocean and a low coastal escarpment known as the Darling Range. The central business district and suburbs of Perth are situated on the Swan River.

Fremantle (colloquially known as 'Freo') is a port city in Western Australia, located 19 kilometres (12 mi) southwest of Perth, the state capital, at the mouth of the Swan River on Australia's western coast. It was the first settlement of the Swan River Colonists in 1829. It was declared a city in 1929, and has a population of approximately 26,000.
The city is named after Charles Fremantle, the English naval officer who had pronounced possession of Western Australia and who established the camp at the site. The city contains well preserved buildings and other heritage sites. The Western Australian vernacular diminutive for Fremantle is "Freo".

Fremantle lies on a series of limestone hills known by the Nyungar people as Booyeembara; the sandplain to the east is Gardoo. The original vegetation of the area was mainly Xanthorrhoea and eucalyptus trees, being fired annually (in late spring or summer) by the traditional owners.
Fremantle is the end of a train line that runs from Perth to Fremantle, run by the WA's Public Transport Authority.
Fremantle is subject to weather and climate relative to seaside communities - to the point that the regular sea breeze is known as the Fremantle Doctor, as it has a cooling effect to provide relief from the summer heat.
On 25 April 1829, the ship HMS Challenger under the guidance of Captain Fremantle had arrived in the waters off the Fremantle coast to make preparations for the Swan River Colony.
On 2 May 1829, Captain Fremantle formally took possession on behalf of King George IV of the entire west coast of New Holland in a ceremony conducted just near the south head of the Swan River. A few days later a camp was set up in a bay just south of the head, and Fremantle has been occupied ever since.
A month later, on 1 June Captain James Stirling on the Parmelia arrived to officially set up the Swan River Colony. Perth itself was not settled until 12 August that year.
Captain Fremantle left the colony on 25 August after providing much assistance to Stirling in setting up the colony. It was then that Stirling decided to name the port settlement 'Fremantle'.
In 1897, Irish-born engineer C. Y. O'Connor deepened Fremantle harbour and removed the limestone bar and sand shoals across the entrance to the Swan River, thus rendering Fremantle a serviceable port for commercial shipping. Fremantle still serves as the chief general seaport for Western Australia, though far greater tonnages are exported from the iron-ore ports of the Pilbara.
Fremantle has seen many industrial conflicts, the most famous of which occurred in 1919 when rioting broke out during "the lumpers' strike", resulting in one death and many injuries.
During World War II, Fremantle was the second largest base for Allied submarines operating in the Pacific theatre. There were up to 125 US, 31 British and 11 Free Dutch submarines operating out of Fremantle, until the Americans moved forward to the Philippines. The movements and presence of USS Sturgeon (SS-187) is a good example of such activity.

Stirling Castle
We took a bus ride from Edinburgh, Scotland to Stirling to explore Stirling's Castle for a day. The bus ride was only an hour long each way and cost a total of £8 for both of us round trip! It was cool seeing more of the beautiful U.K. landscape. We even passed those huge horse head sculptures! It went by too quickly to take any pictures though. The castle had free tours every hour on the hour from 10 am to 3 pm. Our guide was incredibly friendly (like everyone here in Scotland) and knowledgeable. Since we're members of Historic Scotland our entry into the castle was free! Apparently it’s one of the most beautiful train rides in the world. Tomorrow, we’re going to go to Stirling and learn more about the Scottish history. It’s beautiful out there. It was all designed to try and break Bruce’s spirit, but it didn’t. He continued in his quest, capturing castle after castle, ‘til finally in 1313, there was just one great castle left in all in the hands of the English: Stirling. Stirling, right in the middle of the country. You know, the castle there’s the strongest in the land, very similar to Edinburgh, built on top an exist volcano. The only way to capture it was a long siege, to campout, surround the castle, and wait ‘til the soldiers and men inside ran out of food and supplies, and starve them out.
We’re at the Stirling Castle, one of the most important castles of Scottish history. And just like the Edinburgh Castle, it’s perched on top of an extinct volcano, with the most amazing view. When the French Queen, Mary of Guise, lived here about 500 years ago, apparently not a day went by without playing some music, so I’ll play this French dance called Pavane for you. Beautiful, huh? Wonderful Scottish weather. [laughing] It’s not that I can’t see the view because of the clouds, but because of my own hair. It’s pretty incredible, during a time when the people in the towns couldn’t even afford shoes, the Queen and King wore these kind of outfits. It’s just amazing. This banquet hall was the largest most elegant banquet hall in the whole of Scotland. It seats over 500 people. The most extravagant meal they had here they brought in a whole rigged up ship, just to serve the fish meal. That’s kind of crazy.
So, this is the Queen’s bed chamber, but apparently this estate bed was just symbolic. She was actually sleeping in another bed in the other room. So, did people ever come into this bed chamber? Or how was it symbolic? Did guests come here and—Yes, exactly. Guests were to come in, only important guests she would’ve let into this bed chamber, for instance she would’ve met them here, and her servants would’ve slept in here too. Her servants would’ve slept in here too. Yes that’s right, they would’ve helped her dress in the morning and things like that. We’re in Loch Lomond, a lake in the Highland. We’ve just seen a beautiful waterfall, I think it’s a perfect way to end our time here in Scotland.

Guests were to come in, only important guests she would’ve let into this bed chamber, for instance she would’ve met them here, and her servants would’ve slept in here too. Her servants would’ve slept in here too. Yes that’s right, they would’ve helped her dress in the morning and things like that. We’re in Loch Lomond, a lake in the Highland. We’ve just seen a beautiful waterfall, I think it’s a perfect way to end our time here in Scotland.

We took a bus ride from Edinburgh, Scotland to Stirling to explore Stirling's Castle for a day. The bus ride was only an hour long each way and cost a total of £8 for both of us round trip! It was cool seeing more of the beautiful U.K. landscape. We even passed those huge horse head sculptures! It went by too quickly to take any pictures though.
The castle had free tours every hour on the hour from 10 am to 3 pm. Our guide was incredibly friendly (like everyone here in Scotland) and knowledgeable. Since we're members of Historic Scotland our entry into the castle was free!

It is the fourth most populous city in Australia, with an estimated population of 1.97 million (on 30 June 2013) living in Greater Perth. Part of the South West Land Division of Western Australia, the majority of the metropolitan area of Perth is located on the Swan Coastal Plain, a narrow strip between the Indian Ocean and the Darling Scarp, a low coastal escarpment. The first areas settled were on the Swan River, with the city's central business district and port (Fremantle) both located on its shores. Perth is formally divided into a number of local government areas, which themselves consist of a large number of suburbs, extending from Two Rocks in the north to Rockingham in the south, and east inland to The Lakes.
Perth was originally founded by Captain James Stirling in 1829 as the administrative centre of the Swan River Colony, and gained city status in 1856 (currently vested in the smaller City of Perth). The city is named for Perth, Scotland, by influence of Sir George Murray, then British Secretary of State for War and the Colonies. The city's population increased substantially as a result of the Western Australian gold rushes in the late 19th century, largely as a result of emigration from the eastern colonies of Australia. During Australia's involvement in World War II, Fremantle served as a base for submarines operating in the Pacific Theatre, and a US Navy Catalina flying boat fleet was based at Matilda Bay. An influx of immigrants after the war, predominantly from Britain, Greece, Italy and Yugoslavia, led to rapid population growth. This was followed by a surge in economic activity flowing from several mining booms in the late 20th and early 21st centuries that saw Perth become the regional headquarters for a number of large mining operations located around the state.
