Summer Heights High

Summer Heights High is an Australian mockumentary television series written by and starring Chris Lilley. Set in the fictional Summer Heights High School in an outer suburb of Sydney, it is a documentary series of high-school life experience from the viewpoints of three individuals: "Director of Performing Arts" Mr G; private-school exchange student Ja'mie King; and disobedient, vulgar Tongan student Jonah Takalua. The series lampoons Australian high-school life and many aspects of the human condition and is filmed documentary-style with non-actors playing supporting characters.

As he did in a previous series, We Can Be Heroes: Finding The Australian of the Year, Lilley plays multiple characters in Heights, including the aforementioned Mr. G, Ja'mie, and Jonah. Filmed in Melbourne at Brighton Secondary College, the series premiered on 5 September 2007 at 9:30 pm on ABC TV and continued for 8 weekly episodes until 24 October 2007. Each episode was also released as a weekly podcast directly after its screening via both the official website and through any RSS podcast client in either WMV or MPEG-4.

Cleveland Heights High School

Cleveland Heights High School (or commonly known as Heights) is the senior high school of the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District.

History

Cleveland Heights High School was founded in 1901. The current student population is more than 1800, with 18 students per full-time teacher. The school is mostly African-American, with 76 percent identifying themselves as such, and Caucasian (19%), multiracial (4%) and Asian (1%) minorities.

Heights athletic teams play in Division I.

The school is known for its strong music departments, including the Vocal Music Department (VMD) which include A Cappella, Men's and Woman's Barbershop, Singers, and Men and Women's choruses. The Heights Gospel Choir was founded in 1974, and remains active as an extracurricular ensemble. The Instrumental Music Department (IMD) consists of the well respected Heights High Symphony, Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Concert Orchestra, Marching Band, Jazz Lab, and Jazz Band. During the 1960 and 1970s, Heights High's music programs were nationally renowned with the Choir and Orchestra considered amongst the best in the country. For a number of years, world-renowned musicians performed with the Orchestra and the Heights Band & Orchestra Parents organization and Heights Choir Parents Organization played a major role in promoting music and making Heights High synonymous with the highest quality music. Recently, the Heights High Symphony, Symphonic Winds and Jazz Ensemble competed in the 2007 Heritage Festival in Chicago, Illinois culminating at an award ceremony at Medieval Times where the Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Jazz Ensemble received Gold (or Superior) ratings.

Ja'mie King

Jamie Louise "Ja'mie" King (/dʒəˈmeɪ/ jə-MAY) is a fictional character from Australian comedy series We Can Be Heroes: Finding The Australian of the Year, Summer Heights High and Ja'mie: Private School Girl, portrayed by actor Chris Lilley. Ja'mie is aged 17 and lives in Kirribilli in the upper class North Shore region of Sydney, New South Wales, but was born in South Africa.

Lilley portrays Ja'mie as the stunning but atrocious, narcissistic and callous high school girl in Year 12 at Hillford Girls' Grammar School, a fictional private school on Sydney's North Shore. The character was developed by Lilley with the assistance of comedian Ryan Shelton. Lilley developed the character's mannerisms by using recorded interviews with private schoolgirls and also eavesdropping. Lilley states that he didn't want teenage girls to watch it and think "that's such an older guy's view of teenagers".

Mr G

Helen "Greg" Gregson, best known as Mr G, is one of the three fictional characters portrayed by Chris Lilley in the Australian mockumentary series, Summer Heights High.

Biography

Mr G is an effeminate thirty-six-year-old drama teacher at Summer Heights High. Like his creator, Mr G mentions that he graduated from the Teachers' College of Macquarie University in Sydney, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts, where he mentions majoring in the performing arts (music, drama and dance), and a Diploma of Education. Mr G not only believes that he is an incredibly talented and well-liked teacher, but that his students also share his intense passion for drama and performance. He is in constant conflict with himself and other members of staff, particularly the school principal. His self-centred attitude causes him to frequently lose his temper with the students, and he is hostile to the disabled students being involved, under the belief that they will damage the quality of his musical. It is clear that he is unaware that his own perception of his teaching abilities is not shared by most students. He has written several musicals for the school, including "Tsunamarama", based on the events of the 2004 Asian Tsunami, set to the music of Bananarama. The character regularly featured on the Australian television series Big Bite.
