An ovarian cyst is usually a fluid filled sac that is found within an ovary. An ovarian follicle which is larger that is two centimeters in size is termed as an ovarian cyst. More often than not a dermoid cyst will appear to be benign rather than malignant.
*Endometiroma is also known as an endometrioid cyst, endometrial cyst or a chocolate cyst. This type of ovarian cyst is caused by a condition called endometriosis where a small patch of endometrial tissue, which is the mucous membrane that the uterine wall is composed of; bleeds is sloughed off, is transplanted and grows inside the ovaries. There is a buildup of blood and color changes as time goes by turning brown. Once the cyst ruptures the contents of the cyst is spread into the pelvis and surface of the bladder, bowel, uterus and other related spaces in the area. Treatment for this type of ovarian cyst may be medical with the use of non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs. Most commonly endometrial cysts may also be treated via surgery. In younger patients conservative surgery may be opted for to protect their fertility. Definitive surgery may also be used.

Usually, ovulation occurs in one of the two ovaries (at random) releasing a fertilizable egg each menstrual cycle; however, if there was a case where one ovary was absent or dysfunctional then the other ovary would continue providing eggs to be released without any changes in cycle length or frequency.

An ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac in or on the ovary. Many ovarian cysts are noncancerous cysts that occur as a result of ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary). These are called functional cysts. Functional cysts normally shrink on their own over time, usually in about 1 to 3 months. Often functional cysts do not cause any symptoms (you may not even know you have one), but other times they can cause abdominal pain, menstrual irregularities, nausea and vomiting. When this occurs the ovarian cyst may contain developmentally mature skin that is inclusive of hair follicles, sweat glands and in cases even clumps of hair; pouches of cartilage, teeth, thyroid tissue, fat, blood, bone, nails and eyes may also be found in this type of ovarian cyst. More often than not a dermoid cyst will appear to be benign rather than malignant.
*Endometiroma is also known as an endometrioid cyst, endometrial cyst or a chocolate cyst. This type of ovarian cyst is caused by a condition called endometriosis where a small patch of endometrial tissue, which is the mucous membrane that the uterine wall is composed of; bleeds is sloughed off, is transplanted and grows inside the ovaries. There is a buildup of blood and color changes as time goes by turning brown. Once the cyst ruptures the contents of the cyst is spread into the pelvis and surface of the bladder, bowel, uterus and other related spaces in the area. Treatment for this type of ovarian cyst may be medical with the use of non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs. Most commonly endometrial cysts may also be treated via surgery. In younger patients conservative surgery may be opted for to protect their fertility. Definitive surgery may also be used.
*Cystedenomas are abnormal ovarian cysts that develop from ovarian tissue and may be enlarged with a watery liquid or gel like, mucous material. They may grow up to the size of 12 inches or more and may cause a twisting of the ovary.
*Polycystic ovarian disease or polycystic ovarian syndrome presents itself with thickened sclerotic capsules and an abnormally large amount of follicles. The ovary may secrete higher levels of testosterone and estrogen in this case. In this case the ovary appears to be larger in size with numerous growths around it. This type of ovarian cyst is pathological and associated with tumors.

The external thin membranous perimetrium, middle thick layer of smooth muscle myometrium and inner glandular layer called endometrium that lines the uterine cavity. The endometrium under goes cyclical changes during menstrual cycle while myometrium exhibits strong contraction during the delivery of the baby.
Under proper hormonal stimulation uterine endometrial wall gets modified for the implantation of the fertilized ovum and also forms placenta and foetal membrane during intrauterine development of an embryo.
Uterus opens in to a long tube the vagina the opening being guarded by cervix of the uterus, a sphincter that prevents the entry of harmful bacteria and other substances inside it. Vagina serves to receive sperms after copulation. The accessory glands associated with the female reproductive tract are bartholin's glands opening by ducts at the external genital opening. Associated with the female reproductive system are mammary glands, their function being the nourishment of the young ones during prenatal life. The mammary glands are paired structures (breasts) that contain glandular tissue and variable amount of fat. The glandular tissue of each is divided into 15-20 mammary lobes containing clusters of cells called alveoli. The alveoli open in to mammary tubules. The tubules of each lobe join to form mammary tubules. The tubules of each lobe join to form a mammary duct. Ducts join to form a wider mammary ampulla which is connected to lactiferous duct through which milk is sucked out.
The female external genetalia include mons pubis, labia majora, labia minora, hymen and clitoris. The opening of vagina is partially covered by membrane called hymen. The clitoris is a tiny finger like structure above the urethral opening.
