It's been an unfortunate week for R&B; and soul. Yesterday (Wed., Feb. 1) -- on the same day as "Soul Train" founder Don Cornelius' death -- R&B;/gospel singer, David Peaston, died at 54 years old.
Peaston's cause of death is inconclusive, according to St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Peaston battled with diabetes and had both of his legs amputated, starting with his right leg in 2004. In an interview with Post-Dispatch, Peaston expressed disappointment in himself over his illness.
"I didn't want to be back in the public. I wasn't embarrassed or ashamed, but I felt I let myself down and, therefore, I let everyone else down. It was my fault for being sick, and I didn't want anybody to see me like that," Peaston said.

David
David (/ˈdeɪvɪd/; Hebrew: דָּוִד, Modern David, Tiberian Dāwîḏ;ISO 259-3 Dawid; Arabic: داوُد Dāwūd; Syriac: ܕܘܝܕ Dawid; Ancient Greek: Δαυίδ; Latin: Davidus, David; Strong's: Daveed) was, according to the Books of Samuel, the second king of the United Kingdom of Israel, and according to the New Testament, an ancestor of Jesus. His life is conventionally dated to c. 1040 – 970 BCE, his reign over Judah c. 1010–970 BCE.
The Books of Samuel, 1 Kings, and 1 Chronicles are the only Old Testament sources of information on David, although the Tel Dan Stele (dated c. 850–835 BCE) contains the phrase בית דוד (bytdwd), read as "House of David", which many scholars confirm to be a likely plausible match to the existence in the mid-9th century BCE of a Judean royal dynasty called the House of David.
Depicted as a valorous warrior of great renown, and a poet and musician credited for composing much of the psalms contained in the Book of Psalms, King David is widely viewed as a righteous and effective king in battle and civil justice. He is described as a man after God's own heart in 1 Samuel 13:14 and Acts 13:22.

David Peaston
David Peaston (March 13, 1957 – February 1, 2012) was an American R&B and gospel singer who in 1990 won a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul or Rap New Artist. He was mostly known for the singles, "Two Wrongs (Don't Make it Right)" and "Can I?", the latter of which was originally recorded by Eddie Kendricks.
Life and career
He was a native of Saint Louis, Missouri. As a child, he attended the Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church along with his mother, Martha Bass, a member of The Clara Ward Singers gospel group. His sister was R&B/soul singer Fontella Bass.
After graduating he worked as a school teacher but, after being laid off in 1981, moved to New York City and began working as a background singer on recording sessions, including Lester Bowie's 1982 album, The One and Only (ECM). In the late 1980s, he won several competitions on the Showtime at the Apollo television show, winning over the audience with a powerful rendition of "God Bless the Child." He was signed by Geffen Records, and his first single, "Two Wrongs (Don't Make It Right)" rose to no. 3 on the Billboard Black Singles chart in 1989. He had further hits on the R&B chart with "Can I?" and "We're All In This Together", and released an album, Introducing...David Peaston. He also toured with Gerald Alston in Europe, and with Gladys Knight in the US, before moving to the MCA label in 1991, where he issued the album Mixed Emotions. In 1993 he recorded a gospel album with Fontella and Martha Bass entitled Promises: A Family Portrait Of Faith.

Peaston's cause of death is inconclusive, according to St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Peaston battled with diabetes and had both of his legs amputated, starting with his right leg in 2004. It's been an unfortunate week for R&B; and soul. Yesterday (Wed., Feb. 1) -- on the same day as "Soul Train" founder Don Cornelius' death -- R&B;/gospel singer, David Peaston, died at 54 years old. Peaston's cause of death is inconclusive, according to St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Peaston battled with diabetes and had both of his legs amputated, starting with his right leg in 2004. In an interview with Post-Dispatch, Peaston expressed disappointment in himself over his illness. "I didn't want to be back in the public. I wasn't embarrassed or ashamed, but I felt I let myself down and, therefore, I let everyone else down. It was my fault for being sick, and I didn't want anybody to see me like that," Peaston said. Whereas traumas were once seen as the result of combat, sexual assault, natural disasters, etc. we now know it can also be caused by abuse, neglect, car accidents, physical illness, rejection, discrimination, death , humiliation, abandonment (real or perceived) and more. CBSD works with either type. Hal looks forward to hearing from you.
After a challenging life growing up as a child in Northeastern Ohio, Hal Steinhart had additionally gone through even more struggles as an adult. When Hal graduated from Case Western University with Honors he experienced his first major breakdown of his life - the first out of five. Shortly, Hal was clinically diagnosed with multiple emotional disorders which further threw his world into a tailspin. But after learning from these struggles, Hal later was able to devise a new but rather lucrative therapy to assisting others in their fight for internal peace. Join Hal in his new show that introduces to you his story and in his newer form of therapy that will take you, the listener, to EVOLVING PERSPECTIVES.

In this video, innovative California teacher David Preston is interviewed by internet pioneer and professor Howard Rheingold. Here's Rheingold's introduction to the video interview (also a blog post on http://DMLcentral.net): "At a time when so many teachers and administrators fear and forbid student access to the internet from school, a high school teacher on the California coast is encouraging students by the hundreds to blog, Skype, gamify, and mindmap collaboratively in public. Problems? Zero. Enthusiasm -- I can personally testify as one of the people Dr. Preston invited to videoconference with his students -- blows the roof off. Preston's students are enthusiastic about the texts, the ideas, the possibility of reaching out to the authors of those texts and inviting them into the class, and the power and responsibility of co-designing their own learning. They launch 'learner ventures', learning about 'entrepreneurial learning'. They are involved in micro-finance in Africa. They sat in as one of the 'fishbowl' respondents in a Connected Learning videoconference.
"I first learned of David Preston when his presentation on 'open source education' was one of the winners of The Institute for the Future's 'California Dreams' contest. Subsequently, he's been one of the 'co-learners' in a couple of my Rheingold University courses, a volunteer editor of the Peeragogy Handbook, and I've videoconferenced with his students on more than one occasion.
"My video interview with Preston and two of his students runs a little longer than most of my interviews, but they had a lot of describing to do when I asked them what 'hacking the curriculum' meant in practice. Preston and several of his classes have created nearly 100 blogs, all of them publicly accessible. They crowdsourced research to collaboratively produce a mindmap of author William Gibson's interview in The Paris Review. Because they were interested in remix culture and issues, author/blogger Roy Christopher joined the class for a videoconference. After reading an essay on Hamlet, the professor who wrote the essay joined them in a blog comment conversation. Challenged to come up with a rubric for peer-assessing collaborative work, the students collaboratively created a game around collaborative projects. They remixed the curriculum as a mindmap. And send a link to this blog post to your high school principal when fear of the internet rears its head."

Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created for HBO by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. Based on the fantasy novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin.
