Love

Love is a variety of different feelings, states, and attitudes that ranges from interpersonal affection ("I love my mother") to pleasure ("I loved that meal"). It can refer to an emotion of a strong attraction and personal attachment. It can also be a virtue representing human kindness, compassion, and affection—"the unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another". It may also describe compassionate and affectionate actions towards other humans, one's self or animals.

Non-Western traditions have also distinguished variants or symbioses of these states. This diversity of uses and meanings combined with the complexity of the feelings involved makes love unusually difficult to consistently define, compared to other emotional states.

Love in its various forms acts as a major facilitator of interpersonal relationships and, owing to its central psychological importance, is one of the most common themes in the creative arts.

Love may be understood as a function to keep human beings together against menaces and to facilitate the continuation of the species.

Starlight

Starlight is the light emitted by stars. It typically refers to visible electromagnetic radiation from stars other than the Sun observable from Earth during the night time although a component of starlight is observable from the Earth during the daytime.

Sunlight is the term used for the Sun's starlight observed during daytime. During nighttime, albedo describes solar reflections from other Solar System objects including moonlight.

Observation and measurement of starlight through telescopes is the basis for many fields of astronomy, including photometry and stellar spectroscopy. Starlight is also a notable part of personal experience and human culture, impacting a diverse range of pursuits including poetry, astronomy, and military strategy.

The US Army spent millions of dollars in the 1950s and onward to develop a starlight scope, that could amplify starlight, moonlight filtered by clouds, and the fluorescence of rotting vegetation about 50,000 times to allow a person to see in the night. In contrast to previously developed active infrared system such as sniperscope, it was a passive device and did not require additional light emission to see.

The Supermen Lovers

The Supermen Lovers is the moniker of French composer and electronic music producer Guillaume Atlan, born in Paris on February 9, 1975.

The Supermen Lovers is best known for his 2001 hit single "Starlight". He was later nominated at the French contest Victoires de la Musique in 2002 and at the 2001 MTV Europe Music Awards for Best French Artist.

Biography

Atlan was born in Paris, his mother was a social worker and his father was a doctor and the drummer of the music band Mose.

At the age of 8, he started studying solfege and piano at the Francis Poulenc conservatory. His training lasted eight years. He released his first electronic album on UK label Cyclo under the name of "School", a duo which he took up with Stéphane Bejean-Lebenson. The title track, "Ain’t no Love" was remixed by Larry Heard in 1999.

In 1999 Atlan opened his first label, Lafessé records, starting to produce house music under the name of Stan de Mareuil.

In 2000, he started his "The Supermen Lovers" project in tribute to the Johnny Guitar Watson track "Superman Lover". After the release of "Marathon Man," released on his own label, Atlan composed Starlight. Mani Hoffman joined him on this project, singing and co-writing its lyrics with Atlan. Backing vocals were provided by Onili.

Mani Hoffman

Mani Hoffman (born 18 December 1975) is a French singer, songwriter and music producer.

In 2001, he collaborated with The Supermen Lovers, and co-wrote the platinum hit, "Starlight", with Guillaume Atlan, and is lead singer on the song. "Starlight" is one of the most exported French tracks around the world, and made Mani an important figure of French Touch movement along with Daft Punk, Cassius, Modjo, and others.

Over the next few years, Mani worked with French and English house/electro artists, such as DJ Cole, DJ Fudge, Trouble Men, Frank Roger, School, Junior Jack, and JC Sindress and Bel Amour. During this time, Mani signed with multiple labels, such as BMG, Sony, and Warner Music.

In 2006, Hoffman released another big hit, "Lucy", with the band, Jealousy, which was in the Top 20 in UK. While in the UK, he collaborated with Toby Smith, founder of the group Jamiroquai, and was also signed by his label, Angelic Union.

Mani Hoffman has also been involved with film scoring. In 2009, he wrote and sang on the original soundtrack for the film, R.T.T., starring Kad Merad and Mélanie Doutey. He also composed for the French television music, mockumentary series, Zak, broadcast on Orange Movie Series since November, 2011.

The Supermen

"The Supermen" is a song written by David Bowie in 1970 and released as the closing track on the album The Man Who Sold the World. It was one of a number of pieces on the album inspired by the works of literary figures such as Friedrich Nietzsche and H. P. Lovecraft.

Music and lyrics

The song has been cited as reflecting the influence of German Romanticism, its theme and lyrics referencing the apocalyptic visions of Friedrich Nietzsche and its prominent timpani part being likened to Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra. Bowie later said "I was still going through the thing when I was pretending that I understood Nietzsche... And I had tried to translate it into my own terms to understand it so 'Supermen' came out of that." Critics have also seen the influence of H. P. Lovecraft's stories of "dormant elder gods".

According to Bowie himself the guitar riff was given to him by Jimmy Page when the latter, who was Shel Talmy's session guitarist in the mid-1960s, played on one of Bowie's early releases, "I Pity the Fool". The riff was later used on another Bowie song, "Dead Man Walking", from the Earthling album in 1997.
