DIT's Product Design programme is the first of its kind in Ireland. Graduates of the programme have gone on to a variety of successful careers in Ireland and abroad.
In the course of this four year honours degree, students are immersed in the various disciplines of product design through a unique interdisciplinary approach -- students develop their knowledge and skill sets through modules in the areas of design, engineering and business.
This integrated method produces product designers who have the ability and confidence to be both creative and innovative in whatever role they choose to pursue. It gives them the necessary ability to face the challenges of designing new products and bringing them to market. Graduates of the program have proven themselves. equally comfortable in the design studio, the engineering office and the boardroom.
Students learn how to produce accurate physical models of their designs using the extensive studio and prototyping facilities. They also use industry standard design software to bring their projects to fruition.
In the capstone module of the programme, students conceptualise, design and develop a novel product. A number of students have developed successful products in this project which they have gone on to pursue and develop further upon graduation.
While the final project is important for the students' individual development, a series of team projects over the course of the program help the students to develop interpersonal skills along with an appreciation of team dynamics.
Students of the programme have won and been shortlisted for prestigious national and international awards including the Enterprise Ireland All Ireland Student Enterprise Awards, the James Dyson award, the International Forum for Design Concept awards in Hannover, Germany and the Staples Global Eco-easy Challenge in Washington DC, USA.
Students of the programme have won and are regular finalists in the DIT Bolton Trust Student Enterprise awards in which they must demonstrate the ability to form their own company, design and develop a new product and produce a viable business plan in tandem.

What the title says really. Its the entire AS EDEXCEL course in Product Design crammed into 9 and a half minutes so that you can revise for your exam with ease (somewhat). Yes I know the music is ridiculous. This only covers AS so if you are studying A2 then you will need to revise that separately. You will also probably notice that manufacturing processes are not included... That is because you write about those in the coursework and everyone who does DT knows what injection moulding is.

ANIMA is a fully integrated dynamic system that combines the calibration and response of the V10’s throttle, dual clutch transmission, magnetic ride dampers, all wheel drive and stability and traction control systems. Each of the three settings is indeed unique so you can dial in your preferred setting, but I enjoyed Corsa for its responsiveness and lesser interference from the dynamic safety systems. Of course, systems can be turned off.
What’s more, those systems have to get yaw, pitch and roll data from somewhere, so Lamborghini engineers fitted the Huracan with three accelerometers and three gyroscopes that are positioned at the car’s centre of gravity, which is just behind the cabin.
Given the improved all wheel drive system, wickedly fast dual clutch transmission, and better data systems, there is of course launch control.
This Lamborghini has the unmistakable presence of supercar. The low roofline, knife-edged nose, and sculpted profile with its sharp creases define the shape of car that’s capable of speeds well over 300 km/h.
But look carefully and you’ll quickly see that hexagons are central to the Huracan’s design theme. The intake grills are formed of small hexagons. The shape of the mirrors and engine cover vents? You got it. Hexagons everywhere.
On the inside, the Huracan picks up from the rather good Gallardo cabin and brings some modern style as well as drama. And countless hexagons.

Justin Richie, a data scientist, walks us through how the data science field is equal parts communication, design and technology.
Justin Richie is a data scientist and technologist with a passion for using analytics to find the signal in the noise. His career mission is helping organizations understand how data can help them improve. A life-long learner, he's obsessed with learning new technologies and failing fast. As a kid, before data science was even a word, he was just a data nerd analyzing why his football team couldn’t win a Super Bowl. Justin took this passion into his academic studies with an undergraduate degree in Economics/Statistics and graduate work in Predictive Analytics. When not nerding out with data, his hobbies include from music, movies, cooking and writing.

‘Prototyping the Synthetic Forest’ was an intensive international design studio for students from RMIT University’s Master of Design Innovation and Technology (M.DIT).
The design studio was held at Elisava School of Design and Engineering in Barcelona, Spain where students had the opportunity to work with leading design innovators, architects and academics on a digital fabrication project.
Amongst other visits, the students also had the opportunity to visit the ongoing design and construction at Gaudí's Sagrada Família Basilica, the Institute for Advanced Architecture in Cataluna (IAAC) FabLab, Materfad: the Barcelona Centre for Materials in FAD (Fostering Arts and Design, in English), and meet Enric Ruiz-Geli at Cloud 9 architects.
Cloud 9 http://www.world-architects.com/en/cloud9/ works at the interface between architecture and art, digital processes and the development of technological materials. They work across disciplines with diverse partners in other industries and have designed world first patented systems and products through their innovative research-led architecture.

Design and Technology (DT) is a school subject offered at all levels of primary and secondary school. In some countries such as England it is a part of the National Curriculum. It is offered in many countries around the world such as Brunei, Bermuda, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Jordan and Botswana. Many international schools have courses in Design and Technology. As a school subject it involves students in designing in a practical context with a focus on, for example, food, textiles, resistant materials or digital media. It is also a university course in many countries,including Australia, Canada, America, Singapore, South Africa, Netherlands and New Zealand, both for the preparation of teachers and for general education in areas such as industrial design. Some of the UK universities which deliver courses include: Brighton, Sheffield Hallam, London (Goldsmiths) and Greenwich .

‘Prototyping the Synthetic Forest’ was an intensive international design studio for students from RMIT University’s Master of Design Innovation and Technology (M.DIT). The design studio was held at Elisava School of Design and Engineering in Barcelona, Spain where students had the opportunity to work with leading design innovators, architects and academics on a digital fabrication project. DIT's Product Design programme is the first of its kind in Ireland. Graduates of the programme have gone on to a variety of successful careers in Ireland and abroad.
In the course of this four year honours degree, students are immersed in the various disciplines of product design through a unique interdisciplinary approach -- students develop their knowledge and skill sets through modules in the areas of design, engineering and business.
This integrated method produces product designers who have the ability and confidence to be both creative and innovative in whatever role they choose to pursue. It gives them the necessary ability to face the challenges of designing new products and bringing them to market. Graduates of the program have proven themselves. equally comfortable in the design studio, the engineering office and the boardroom.
Students learn how to produce accurate physical models of their designs using the extensive studio and prototyping facilities. They also use industry standard design software to bring their projects to fruition.
In the capstone module of the programme, students conceptualise, design and develop a novel product. A number of students have developed successful products in this project which they have gone on to pursue and develop further upon graduation.
While the final project is important for the students' individual development, a series of team projects over the course of the program help the students to develop interpersonal skills along with an appreciation of team dynamics.
Students of the programme have won and been shortlisted for prestigious national and international awards including the Enterprise Ireland All Ireland Student Enterprise Awards, the James Dyson award, the International Forum for Design Concept awards in Hannover, Germany and the Staples Global Eco-easy Challenge in Washington DC, USA.
Students of the programme have won and are regular finalists in the DIT Bolton Trust Student Enterprise awards in which they must demonstrate the ability to form their own company, design and develop a new product and produce a viable business plan in tandem.

What the title says really. Its the entire AS EDEXCEL course in Product Design crammed into 9 and a half minutes so that you can revise for your exam with ease (somewhat). Yes I know the music is ridiculous. This only covers AS so if you are studying A2 then you will need to revise that separately. You will also probably notice that manufacturing processes are not included... That is because you write about those in the coursework and everyone who does DT knows what injection moulding is.

ANIMA is a fully integrated dynamic system that combines the calibration and response of the V10’s throttle, dual clutch transmission, magnetic ride dampers, all wheel drive and stability and traction control systems. Each of the three settings is indeed unique so you can dial in your preferred setting, but I enjoyed Corsa for its responsiveness and lesser interference from the dynamic safety systems. Of course, systems can be turned off.
What’s more, those systems have to get yaw, pitch and roll data from somewhere, so Lamborghini engineers fitted the Huracan with three accelerometers and three gyroscopes that are positioned at the car’s centre of gravity, which is just behind the cabin.
Given the improved all wheel drive system, wickedly fast dual clutch transmission, and better data systems, there is of course launch control.
This Lamborghini has the unmistakable presence of supercar. The low roofline, knife-edged nose, and sculpted profile with its sharp creases define the shape of car that’s capable of speeds well over 300 km/h.
But look carefully and you’ll quickly see that hexagons are central to the Huracan’s design theme. The intake grills are formed of small hexagons. The shape of the mirrors and engine cover vents? You got it. Hexagons everywhere.
On the inside, the Huracan picks up from the rather good Gallardo cabin and brings some modern style as well as drama. And countless hexagons.
