Armenia is steadily modernizing its health sector. A modernization project, supported by the World Bank, is giving the public greater access to better health, through upgrading the countrys hospitals and medical clinics. As part of the project, hundreds of Armenias doctors and nurses are receiving training in the latest Family medicine practices:
Health Care in Armenia from "International Health Care Systems". The Health Care system in Armenia has three organizational levels, the national level, the regional level and the community level. The national level includes Parliament and the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and others which are responsible for developing national policies. The 11 regional governments (10 marzes and Yerevan) have planning and regulatory responsibilities for regional/municipal hospitals, and regional/municipal primary health care facilities (polyclinics, health centers and others). The communities are responsible for health centers, rural ambulatories and health posts.
Professor Armen Astvatsatryan, MD, PhD, ScD, FESC is a founder and a first dean of Faculty of Public Health of European Regional Educational Academy. He has known by his lectures in different Public Health domains, especially “Basics of Public Health”, “International Health Care” and “Medical Ethics”.
Astvatsatryan Armen is a member of European Society of Cardiology (ESC), a Fellow of ESC, ESC Diploma, a Member of European Heart Rhythm Association, and a member of Board of Armenian Cardiologists Association.
One of 100 of the International Biographical Center's (Cambridge, England) Top Health Professionals - 2007.

Armenia (
i/ɑːrˈmiːniə/, /-ˈmiːnjə/;Armenian: Հայաստան, tr. Hayastan, IPA: [hɑjɑsˈtɑn]), officially the Republic of Armenia (Armenian: Հայաստանի Հանրապետություն, tr. Hayastani Hanrapetut’yun), is a sovereign state in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia. Located in Western Asia, it is bordered by Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north, the de facto independent Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and Azerbaijan to the east, and Iran and the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan to the south.
Armenia is a unitary, multi-party, democratic nation-state with an ancient cultural heritage. The Kingdom of Van was established in 860 BC and by the 6th century BC it was replaced by the Satrapy of Armenia. In the 1st century BC the Kingdom of Armenia reached its height under Tigranes the Great. Armenia became the first state in the world to adopt Christianity as its official religion. In between the late 3rd century to early years of the 4th century, the state became "the first Christian nation." The official date of state adoption of Christianity was 301 AD. The ancient Armenian kingdom was split between the Byzantine and Sasanid empires around the early 5th century. Under the Bagratuni dynasty, the Armenian Kingdom was restored in the 9th century. Declining due to the wars against the Byzantines, the kingdom fell in 1045 and Armenia was soon after invaded by the Seljuk Turks. An Armenian principality and later a kingdom Cilician Armenia was located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea between the 11th and 14th centuries.

Health care
Health care or healthcare is the maintenance or improvement of health via the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, illness, injury, and other physical and mental impairments in human beings. Health care is delivered by health professionals (providers or practitioners) in allied health professions, chiropractic, physicians, dentistry, midwifery, nursing, medicine, optometry, pharmacy, psychology, and other health professions. It includes the work done in providing primary care, secondary care, and tertiary care, as well as in public health.
Access to health care varies across countries, groups, and individuals, largely influenced by social and economic conditions as well as the health policies in place. Countries and jurisdictions have different policies and plans in relation to the personal and population-based health care goals within their societies. Health care systems are organizations established to meet the health needs of target populations. Their exact configuration varies between national and subnational entities. In some countries and jurisdictions, health care planning is distributed among market participants, whereas in others, planning occurs more centrally among governments or other coordinating bodies. In all cases, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), a well-functioning health care system requires a robust financing mechanism; a well-trained and adequately-paid workforce; reliable information on which to base decisions and policies; and well maintained health facilities and logistics to deliver quality medicines and technologies.

Markets for farmers in South Armenia
The Syunik and Vayots Dzor provinces in southern Armenia produce things Armenian consumers have a big appetite for: high quality beef and dairy products. Many families have cattle but are unable to make the most of their livestock: poor animal fodder and limited access to veterinarians and to markets for their produce mean most farmers in the region live at subsistence level. The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) project is helping farmers from 100 rural communities to increase their milk and meat production, thereby increasing their incomes. Abstract: Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Armenia’s health care system has undergone significant transformation, while maintaining many of the features of the “Semashko” system.
There is a lack of objective data on how effective attempts to improve the health care system have been. Furthermore, the data that do exist are fragmented, prone to inaccuracies, and often
do not measure the critical indicators of the state of health care or effectiveness of reforms. Generally speaking, efforts to improve any health care system should focus on three main concepts: maximizing access, minimizing costs, and optimizing the quality of care delivered. Practically speaking, this can only be done by analyzing and intervening at the level of all fields that contribute to healthcare. These include, but are not limited to, healthcare policy,
financing, education, infrastructure and human resources. In the unique situation of Armenia, the role of the diaspora as one of the stakeholders and contributors to the nation’s healthcare system must also be considered. The purpose of this presentation is to present a concise synopsis of the current state of health care in Armenia and to propose a new approach for the diaspora to contribute to and participate in the development of this system.
Dr. Shant Shekherdimian was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. His educational background includes a medical degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a Masters in Public Health with an emphasis on global health from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Shekherdimian has completed a residency in general surgery at UCLA and a fellowship in pediatric surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Surgery at UCLA. Dr. Shekherdimian’s clinical interests include neonatal surgery and pediatric surgical oncology. His research interests are in intestinal lengthening as a potential treatment of short bowel syndrome.
Dr. Shekherdimian has participated and lectured at several international conferences pertaining to his surgical specialty and public health. He is involved in several projects with the aim to
improve pediatric care in Armenia, including spearheading a novel model of effective diaspora contribution to health care systems in home countries.

DAY 02 in Provinces of Armenia.
We spend the whole 2nd day of the tour in provinces of Armenia.
- 1st stop was in the Temple of Garni which is known as the classical Hellenistic temple and best-known structure and symbol of pre-Christian in Armenia.
- 2nd stop was in Geghard which is the medieval monastery in the Kotayk province of Armenia, being partially carved out of the adjacent mountain, surrounded by cliffs. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- 3rd stop was in Lake Sevan, the largest body of water in Armenia and the Caucasus region, and one of the largest freshwater high-altitude lakes in Eurasia. The lake is situated in Gegharkunik Province, at an altitude of 1,900 m above sea level.
But during our visit, the lake was frozen due to the weather which was in the mid of winter and spring.
Lastly, in Tsaghkadzor is a spa town and a popular health resort in Armenia, located north of the capital Yerevan in the Kotayk Province. According to the 2011 census, the town has a population of 1,256, down from 3,350 reported in the 1989 census.
We really had a great time during the 2nd day, for me this was the best tour we had well maybe because of the snowfall.
Best adventure of course with our best tour guide Mr. Levon and to our driver who never failed to made us feel how safe the trip it was and most of all for CAPTAIN TRAVEL CLUB.
And for the new founded friends, me and my boyfriend never felt being others. Hoping to see you soon on the next travel, Kampay! oh I mean..

The Syunik and Vayots Dzor provinces in southern Armenia produce things Armenian consumers have a big appetite for: high quality beef and dairy products. Many families have cattle but are unable to make the most of their livestock: poor animal fodder and limited access to veterinarians and to markets for their produce mean most farmers in the region live at subsistence level. The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) project is helping farmers from 100 rural communities to increase their milk and meat production, thereby increasing their incomes. Around 14,000 families (almost 60,000 people) benefit directly and indirectly from the project. This will be achieved by improving animal health through supporting local veterinarian services, supporting better access to milk and meat markets, and promoting the learning and sharing of know-how among farmers.
