Hrishikesh Sinha Hrishikesh did his schooling from Oriental High School, Silchar, and graduated from G.C.College, Silchar. During his childhood, he was the favourite child when his seniors would call him for a song in every other gathering. In fact, he started off as a dancer during his school days by participating in various events, singing came at a later stage. His first big platform came in early 2005, with Khourang, a socio-cultural organisation, which organised a cultural programme, with a brilliant performance. That’s how his motivation and interest towards music, learning guitar, composing etc. began. He was supported through out by his family, particularly by his elder brother, Haridas Sinha, so much that he went on to produce his first ever audio album ‘Mingal’. Mingal was a hit, well accepted by the people. It brought in a fresh voice, particularly, for the young hearts. Post Mingal, he kept into compositions and honing his skill. The next big thing that happened with him was a workshop, organised by the people of the Kolkata music fraternity. He was close to his Guruji – Joy then, he says. Tollywood music director Somnath Chakroborty recognised him and considered him as a potential for singing in Tollywood. In fact, he’s sung two hits in ‘The Golden Melodies of Som’s Harmony’, a private album, marketed and distributed in West Bengal and North East. On the Tollywood part, discussions and negotiations are still on; we should hear something new and good in the coming days. In early 2007, New Mark Creators organised a Talent hunt program in NE, and Hrishikesh was the only selected candidate from Silchar. This game him another project ‘Neel Aakash’ in Bengali. In the same year, Doordarshan (NE) launched a massive talent hunt show in the north-east ‘Melody Star’. The competition went live with Hrishikesh performing in it. However, as luck would have it, the competition was shelved off after sometime due to commercial reasons. The success of Mingal along with all the encouragement lifted Hrishikesh to consider music and singing as a serious career option by now. Leimma Production came up with another project ‘O Meghala’, which involved superior technical support with Sound mixing in Chennai Studios and involved participants from Sa Re Ga Ma. In 2008, he was auditioned by Doordarshan again and got selected, but this time for live performances in Silchar. The next big project that’s up in line is ‘HRIDI’, another album. If everything goes as per schedule, it should be releasing by end April’10 and with 5 different languages viz. Bishnupriya Manipuri, Meitei, Bengali, Assamese and Hindi. He’s also teamed up with Zubeen Garg (of Ya Ali fame) on a Bengali video album ‘Mon Je Chai Shudu Tumare’. Zubeen would also be singing on one of Hrishikesh’s compositions. ‘Bau’, as he is locally known as, Hrishikesh is the youngest sibling among five and lives with her mother. He likes and draws inspiration from Mohammed Rafi, Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan, Shaan and Zubeen Garg. He is a trained classical singer.
