Mediterranean Itinerary XXII, Occitania (under French occupation) Having started our Mediterranean itinerary in Istanbul, we sailed across the coastlands of Turkey, Syria, Cyprus, Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Malta, Algeria, Morocco, and Spain. Today, we are sailing off the coasts of Occitania, between Catalonia (Spain) and Italy. A myriad of Occitan movements and associations struggles today for the preservation of the Occitan culture, language and heritage, for Occitania's self-determination, and for the ultimate dissolution of the terrorist, extremist state of France. The present video contains six (6) songs in Occitan and French: - Se canta (national version combined with Lozère version) Written by Gaston III Fébus (1331-1391), Count of Foix and Béarn, according to the legends, this song is an old popular song that became the unofficial anthem of the entire Occitania. It has been recorded in numerous versions and under variant titles (Se Chanto, Aqueras Montanhas). Since 1993, it has an official status in Aran Valley (a comarca in Spain) with the title Montanhes Araneses. It is also, since August 6, 2010, the official anthem of Toulouse FC. Also known as "Langue d'Oc", the Occitan language used to be the Troubadours' idiom in the Middle-Ages and this language is still spoken in the South of France (five regions compose the Langue d'Oc country also called "Occitania": Provence, Languedoc, Limousin, Auvergne and Gascogne; altogether they represent 13 million people.
