On Thin Ice

On Thin Ice, (OTI) is a Harvard College Improvisational comedy group. Founded in 1984 by Brigit Fasolino Vucic, On Thin Ice is Harvard's oldest improv troupe.

OTI currently specializes in short form improvisational comedy games in the style of Whose Line Is It Anyway?. Shows, performed once every few weeks, are about 45 minutes long and depend on audience suggestions. OTI's constitution requires that they performs free on-campus show. OTI is famous for their Trial By Fire show, a showcase for their newest members. Performed once each semester, the Trial By Fire show requires all new members, having only had one practice, to perform in every game. Additionally, they have competed in a number of short form improv comedy competitions across the country. And every year, during the Harvard-Yale football game weekend, OTI performs with an improv troupe from Yale.

Notable alumni

A number of notable individuals in the entertainment business have been past members of "On Thin Ice'. Among the early members were actor Christopher Liam Moore, Producer-Writer Nick Davis, screenwriter Adam Barr, and TV executive Susanne Lieberstein Daniels, as well as Eric Ronis, Christian Bordal (formerly Christian Kanuth), Ashby Semple, and Betty Achinstein. Other members in the 1980s included Producer Daniel Zelman and novelist Arthur Phillips. Mike Roiff produced the 2007 film Waitress (film). Rob Dubbin is a writer for the Colbert Report.

On Thin Ice (TV series)

On Thin Ice is a documentary following a team of three consisting of Ben Fogle, James Cracknell, and Ed Coats in their race across Antarctica to the South Pole. The series covers the whole experience, beginning with training efforts in Switzerland and vigorous exercises elsewhere. The team began their race to the South Pole shortly after New Year's Day 2009. The series also covers the various calamities experienced by Ben Fogle, who only a short while before the trip had contracted a highly dangerous tropical skin-eating disease (Cutaneous leishmaniasis).

The series was aired on BBC Two during the months of June and July 2009.

The series consists of five episodes. Episodes one to three focus on the team's preparations and training for the event, particularly the recruitment of the third team member (provisionally Jonny Lee Miller, whose work commitments led to his replacement by Ed Coats). Episodes four and five focus on the race itself and notably the physical and emotional strains put on the individual men, and team as a whole.
