Robert Boiten, a
Dutch business student worked as a trainee at
Trelleborg AB, in
Trelleborg, Sweden.
Taking the
TT-Line Travemünde-Trelleborg on 04 June 1988, Robert was accompanied by his supervisor
Mr Ed J D de Leeuw who was manager of the
Industrial Supply Products division of
Trelleborg, based in
Hoogezand in
The Netherlands.
Mrs. Lolita von Sydow who rented out rooms at her home at Äklagaregränd 6 in Trelleborg. Sotiris Tserepis from
Greece, another student.

It wasn’t all work at Trelleborg AB. Robert had a warm reception from his colleagues, joining them at their homes for private gatherings and experiencing the local country and culture eg with Gunilla Norén visiting “
Stortorget (
Main Square)” and “
Radhuset” (
Town Hall) in
Malmö.
On 24 1988, Robert joined Anders Pettersson who worked at the industrial supplies sector, Novibra
Division to Anders’ parents’ home in
Simrishamn to celebrate “Midsommarafton“ (
Midsummer’s day). The next day 25 June 1988 they all visited
Bornholm in
Denmark, travelling on the
Bornholm Express.
Ulf Grahn and two of his friends went to
Copenhagen where they visited “Bakken”, the oldest amusement park in the world located in the woods of
Dyrehaven. They also visited the
Dragon fountain – rådhuspladsen –
Amalienborg Palace with the Statue of
Frederik V on Horseback, and finally
Amaliehaven.
Lars Hedvall who was Försäljningschef at Trelleborg AB at Spärrgatan 6, 653 41
Karlstad, took Robert to one of Trelleborg’s major customers in Karlstad – Billerud that specialised in renewable packaging materials.
Robert and Ulf Grahn drove to Ulf’s “sommerhus” in
Höllviken.

Robert joined Mieczyslaw Ksieski and his wife

Djursholm. They visited the
The Royal Palace of
Stockholm and watched the
Changing of the Guard. Robert and
Mike then visited
Stockholm City Hall “stadshuset” and saw the “Rådsalen” and the “
Gyllene salen”
.”.Next was the Kanäs tower. Mike Ksieski visited the old town of Stockholm “
Gamla Stan” and walked through Österlänggatan, and an open air museum and zoo at Skansen. Next is the “Wasavarvet”
Museum. Robert and Mike Ksieski visited
Millesgården, an art museum and sculpture garden. They then took a boat to
Drottningholm Palace located on an
Island in
Lake Mälaren. During the boat trip they saw the
Riddarholm church, the burial church of the
Swedish monarchs, on the island of
Riddarholmen.
In
Sparreholm they see Tora’s brother Sven Fyrberg from
Solna and
Kristina Norin from
Johanneshov. This was close to
Mariefred – Lake Mälaren and
Gripsholm Castle in Mariefred,
Södermanland.

Falun. Together they visited the
Great Copper Mountain (“Falun
Stora Kopparberg”) in Falun, They were guided through by Göran Ahlmann.
From
Kiruna to
Narvik in
Norway via the
E10 they passed
Lake Torneträsk (the seventh largest lake in
Sweden). A “Lavvu” used by the
Sami people. Robert visited
LKAB in Kiruna, a
Swedish company that mines iron ore at Kiruna and at
Malmberget.
He then visited
Jukkasjärvi church in Jukkasjärvi, built in 1607-08 and completed in 1785. The altarpiece is by
Bror Hjorth (1894-
1968).Next was
Nikkaluokta, close to the mountain Kebnekaise.
In Kiruna they came across photos on the wall from Emil Ragnar Borg
Mesch (1869-1956)
They visited
Vaxholm church and
Vaxholm fortress This was followed by “
Kungsträdgården (
Kings garden) in Stockholm.
In
Skellefteå he met Sven Norvall, försäljningschef Marknad Sverige Trelleborg AB, Nordlandergatan 15, 931 22 Skellefteå. Bonnstan is the area with 116 church cottages in Skellefteå; the oldest of which is from around 1732.
Robert visited Lolita’s son,
Christian von Sydow. Christian was born in
1950 in
Lund, and is a Swedish artist and designer. Christian von Sydow was at that time employed as a glass designer at
Kosta Boda.
Robert’s roommates were
Christian Brunner from
Austria.
