In West Yorkshire, five motorways and two major cities meet in one of the country's busiest intersections.
Motorway cops Dave Robson and Phil Stonebanks come on duty to a type of call they always fear - an accident in a live lane of the motorway involving a two-year-old child. Dave and Phil close the motorway, and while the casualties are taken to hospital, the motorway cops begin their investigation - but it's fast approaching the evening rush hour, and time is not on their side.
The motorways are often a good place to identify drivers who shouldn't be on the road. With help from their automatic number plate recognition camera, PCs Lindsey Pickles and Martin Willis spot an uninsured driver. When Martin approaches the car, to his surprise he finds a mum with three children, one of which is too young to be transported in the front of the car.
While responding to a report of a car fire on the A1 motorway, PC Dale Anderson finds his progress blocked by a motorbike rider using hard shoulder. Taking a shortcut through the tailbacks doesn't impress Dale.
PC Matthew Hemingway deals with a distressed motorist who's been involved in a hit-and-run accident on the M62. Matthew is determined to track down the men who caused the accident.
In the quiet of the night, with less traffic on the roads, West Yorkshire's motorway cops are often asked to help out in the surrounding towns. PCs Lindsey Pickles and Martin Willis come across a driver they'd like to stop - but just as they attempt to stop the driver, he makes off, and a high-speed chase ensues.
And, when a drink driver goes the wrong way up the motorway during a police pursuit, the motorway cops are faced with some tragic consequences.
In Shaw Theatres 12 July 2012 (Thurs) - Sean is an overconfident rookie in Stealth Riders, a secret police unit consisting of the best drivers in the force that targets against underworld racing and fugitives on the run. Jensen is a legendary escape driver for criminals, who had never been caught before his retirement 15 years ago. When Sean chances upon Jensen out of the blue one day, he thinks his day has finally come.
After an arduous car chase, Sean outmaneuvers Jensen and arrests him. While he is gloating over his triumph in the precinct, Jensen pulls off a prison break with another inmate. He has let Sean capture him deliberately. This humiliation draws Sean towards veteran cop Lo who almost lost his life years ago while chasing Jensen and has since sworn off the motorway.
When a police operation to thwart a diamond heist leads to Jensen's whereabouts, Sean persuades Lo to drive again and to chase after Jensen's car with him. Just when Sean is about to corner Jensen, Jensen spins his car around and speeds head-on towards Sean. Sean swerves his car aside only to be hit nonetheless. Lo is left to chase after Jensen alone, but history repeats itself and he ends up crashing off the embankment and dies in the ensuing explosion.
After an initial guilt trip over Lo's death, Sean eventually pulls himself together and vows to take on Jensen at all cost. His opportunity finally knocks when Jensen is spotted on the run after another heist. With the support of his teammates in Stealth Riders, Sean prevails and successfully traps Jensen's car.
At the eleventh hour, Jensen once again spins his car around and speeds head-on towards Sean. But this time, instead of trying to avoid a collision, Sean steps on his gas and dashes towards Jensen's vehicle...

Too many driving instructors focus too much attention on telling their pupils what to do and what to think! This approach only fosters dependency, doubt and blind obedience, such that once the test is passed they do all the things they were told not to do. The LDC approach is designed to foster self-reliance, confidence and responsibility resulting in safer drivers who learn to drive far more quickly and thoroughly.
Unlike traditional instruction LDC heavily promotes student centred learning. This involves the student being encouraged to take more responsibility for their own development by using the LD System materials before and after each lesson and by using discovery learning with self determination and reflection rather than being told what to do by the instructor. In particular talk through instruction, prompted practice and long winded explanations are avoided, if at all possible - instead encouraging the student to work it out for themselves. A southbound trip on the M1 Motorway, from the A50/A6 at junction 24 near Nottingham to Leicester Forest East Service Station.
The M1 is one of the two backbone north-south motorways in the UK. The section from St Albans to Junction 18 had been the first intercity motorway in the UK when it opened in 1959. The first extension to the M1 up to junction 24 opened 6 years later in November 1965 and it is this section which features in the video.

Joining and leaving a UK motorway driving lesson http://www.driving-school-beckenham.c...
This video will hopefully be useful if you're about to drive on a motorway for the first time and need some motorway tips or visiting from another country and plan on driving in the UK. A lot of drivers have never had any motorway driving lessons.
You must pass your driving test before driving on a motorway as learner drivers are not allowed. Here is a full list of who MUST NOT use the motorway:
Pedestrians
Holders of provisional motorcycle or car licences
Riders of motorcycles under 50 cc, cyclists
Horse riders
Certain slow-moving vehicles and those carrying oversized loads (except by special permission)
Agricultural vehicles
Powered wheelchairs/powered mobility scooters.
In this video we have a look at how to join a motorway. The slip road is used to adjust your speed to that of vehicles already on the motorway. Vehicles on the motorway have priority. Some drivers will change lanes to allow you to move on but don't assume they will. Stay in the left hand lane so that you can get used to the higher speed and the higher speed of others around you.
Leaving a motorway. Look out for road signs that will show you how far away it is until you have to leave the motorway. Make sure that you're in the left hand lane in plenty of time before leaving the motorway as you don't want to cut across lanes at the last moment. If you do miss your exit then just drive on until the next one.
This is just a rough guide to joining and leaving a motorway. We strongly recommend taking some motorway lessons with a professional driving instructor.

Uploaded by request, this is a complete anticlockwise lap of the M60 motorway around Manchester in real-time, filmed on a sunny Sunday afternoon in November 2011. The video begins and ends on the south side of Manchester near Cheadle.
The M60 was constructed in stages.
The first section to open was the Stretford and Eccles bypass which was originally numbered M62, later renumbered to M63. This section opened to traffic in October 1960 and was one of the first motorways to open in the UK.
The next major milestone was the completion of the M62 to the North and West of Manchester, opening in 1971.
By 1975, the M63 had been extended to Cheadle, and the M66 had been constructed down to Heaton Park.
In 1982, Stockport was bypassed, and in 1989, a portion of the M66 was constructed, joining Stockport to Denton, leaving a 9.5 mile gap in the M66.
This gap was finally plugged in October 2000 when the ring was completed. The motorway was renumbered as M60 upon completion.

Controlled-access highway
A controlled-access highway is a type of highway which has been designed for high-speed vehicular traffic, with all traffic flow and ingress/egress regulated. Common English terms are freeway (in the US), motorway (in the UK & Ireland) and expressway (in Canada and many Asian countries). Terms in other languages sometimes seen in English include Spanish: autopista or autovía (depending on whether it has toll or not), French: autoroute, German: Autobahn, or Italian: autostrada. Other similar terms include Interstate and parkway. They may also be called limited-access highways, although this term can also refer to a class of highway with somewhat less isolation from other traffic. Conversely, some of the United States use "controlled access" to describe a non-limited-access road, entrances to which are controlled by the state.
A controlled-access highway provides an unhindered flow of traffic, with no traffic signals, intersections or property access. They are free of any at-grade crossings with other roads, railways, or pedestrian paths, which are instead carried by overpasses and underpasses across the highway. Entrances and exits to the highway are provided at interchanges by slip roads (ramps), which allow for speed changes between the highway and arterial roads and collector roads. On the controlled-access highway, opposing directions of travel are generally separated by a median strip or central reservation containing a traffic barrier or grass. Elimination of the sources of potential conflicts with other directions of travelers dramatically improves safety, and capacity.

In West Yorkshire, five motorways and two major cities meet in one of the country's busiest intersections. Motorway cops Dave Robson and Phil Stonebanks come on duty to a type of call they always fear - an accident in a live lane of the motorway involving a two-year-old child. Dave and Phil close the motorway, and while the casualties are taken to hospital, the motorway cops begin their investigation - but it's fast approaching the evening rush hour, and time is not on their side. Driving in the UK - M1 Motorway (Part 1)
A southbound trip on the M1 Motorway, from the A50/A6 at junction 24 near Nottingham to Leicester Forest East Service Station. The M1 is one of the two backbone north-south motorways in the UK. The section from St Albans to Junction 18 had been the first intercity motorway in the UK when it opened in 1959. The first extension to the M1 up to junction 24 opened 6 years later in November 1965 and it is this section which features in the video. Uploaded by request, this is a complete anticlockwise lap of the M60 motorway around Manchester in real-time, filmed on a sunny Sunday afternoon in November 2011. The video begins and ends on the south side of Manchester near Cheadle. The M60 was constructed in stages. The first section to open was the Stretford and Eccles bypass which was originally numbered M62, later renumbered to M63. This section opened to traffic in October 1960 and was one of the first motorways to open in the UK. The next major milestone was the completion of the M62 to the North and West of Manchester, opening in 1971. By 1975, the M63 had been extended to Cheadle, and the M66 had been constructed down to Heaton Park. In 1982, Stockport was bypassed, and in 1989, a portion of the M66 was constructed, joining Sto...

In West Yorkshire, five motorways and two major cities meet in one of the country's busiest intersections.
Motorway cops Dave Robson and Phil Stonebanks come on duty to a type of call they always fear - an accident in a live lane of the motorway involving a two-year-old child. Dave and Phil close the motorway, and while the casualties are taken to hospital, the motorway cops begin their investigation - but it's fast approaching the evening rush hour, and time is not on their side.
The motorways are often a good place to identify drivers who shouldn't be on the road. With help from their automatic number plate recognition camera, PCs Lindsey Pickles and Martin Willis spot an uninsured driver. When Martin approaches the car, to his surprise he finds a mum with three children, one of which is too young to be transported in the front of the car.
While responding to a report of a car fire on the A1 motorway, PC Dale Anderson finds his progress blocked by a motorbike rider using hard shoulder. Taking a shortcut through the tailbacks doesn't impress Dale.
PC Matthew Hemingway deals with a distressed motorist who's been involved in a hit-and-run accident on the M62. Matthew is determined to track down the men who caused the accident.
In the quiet of the night, with less traffic on the roads, West Yorkshire's motorway cops are often asked to help out in the surrounding towns. PCs Lindsey Pickles and Martin Willis come across a driver they'd like to stop - but just as they attempt to stop the driver, he makes off, and a high-speed chase ensues.
And, when a drink driver goes the wrong way up the motorway during a police pursuit, the motorway cops are faced with some tragic consequences.

When a police operation to thwart a diamond heist leads to Jensen's whereabouts, Sean persuades Lo to drive again and to chase after Jensen's car with him. Just when Sean is about to corner Jensen, Jensen spins his car around and speeds head-on towards Sean. Sean swerves his car aside only to be hit nonetheless. Lo is left to chase after Jensen alone, but history repeats itself and he ends up crashing off the embankment and dies in the ensuing explosion.
After an initial guilt trip over Lo's death, Sean eventually pulls himself together and vows to take on Jensen at all cost. His opportunity finally knocks when Jensen is spotted on the run after another heist. With the support of his teammates in Stealth Riders, Sean prevails and successfully traps Jensen's car.
At the eleventh hour, Jensen once again spins his car around and speeds head-on towards Sean. But this time, instead of trying to avoid a collision, Sean steps on his gas and dashes towards Jensen's vehicle...

In this video we have a look at how to join a motorway. The slip road is used to adjust your speed to that of vehicles already on the motorway. Vehicles on the motorway have priority. Some drivers will change lanes to allow you to move on but don't assume they will. Stay in the left hand lane so that you can get used to the higher speed and the higher speed of others around you.
Leaving a motorway. Look out for road signs that will show you how far away it is until you have to leave the motorway. Make sure that you're in the left hand lane in plenty of time before leaving the motorway as you don't want to cut across lanes at the last moment. If you do miss your exit then just drive on until the next one.
This is just a rough guide to joining and leaving a motorway. We strongly recommend taking some motorway lessons with a professional driving instructor.

This video will hopefully be useful if you're about to drive on a motorway for the first time and need some motorway tips or visiting from another country and plan on driving in the UK. A lot of drivers have never had any motorway driving lessons.
You must pass your driving test before driving on a motorway as learner drivers are not allowed. Here is a full list of who MUST NOT use the motorway:
Pedestrians
Holders of provisional motorcycle or car licences
Riders of motorcycles under 50 cc, cyclists
Horse riders
Certain slow-moving vehicles and those carrying oversized loads (except by special permission)
Agricultural vehicles
Powered wheelchairs/powered mobility scooters.

Uploaded by request, this is a complete anticlockwise lap of the M60 motorway around Manchester in real-time, filmed on a sunny Sunday afternoon in November 2011. The video begins and ends on the south side of Manchester near Cheadle.
The M60 was constructed in stages.
The first section to open was the Stretford and Eccles bypass which was originally numbered M62, later renumbered to M63. This section opened to traffic in October 1960 and was one of the first motorways to open in the UK.
The next major milestone was the completion of the M62 to the North and West of Manchester, opening in 1971.
By 1975, the M63 had been extended to Cheadle, and the M66 had been constructed down to Heaton Park.
In 1982, Stockport was bypassed, and in 1989, a portion of the M66 was constructed, joining Stockport to Denton, leaving a 9.5 mile gap in the M66.
This gap was finally plugged in October 2000 when the ring was completed. The motorway was renumbered as M60 upon completion.
