Port-au-Prince

Port-au-Prince (/ˌpɔːrtoʊˈprɪns/; French pronunciation: ​[pɔʁopʁɛ̃s]; Haitian Creole: Pòtoprens) is the capital and largest city of the Caribbean country of Haiti. The city's population was estimated at 987,310 in 2015 with the metropolitan area (aire métropolitaine) estimated at a population of 2,618,894. The metropolitan area is defined by the IHSI as including the communes of Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Cite Soleil, Tabarre, Carrefour, and Pétionville.

The city of Port-au-Prince is on the Gulf of Gonâve: the bay on which the city lies, which acts as a natural harbor, has sustained economic activity since the civilizations of the Arawaks. It was first incorporated under the colonial rule of the French, in 1749. The city's layout is similar to that of an amphitheatre; commercial districts are near the water, while residential neighborhoods are located on the hills above. Its population is difficult to ascertain due to the rapid growth of slums in the hillsides above the city; however, recent estimates place the metropolitan area's population at around 3.7 million, nearly half of the country's national population.

Porto

Porto (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈpoɾtu]), also known as Oporto in English, is the second-largest city in Portugal, after Lisbon, and one of the major urban areas in Southwestern Europe. The urban area of Porto, which extends beyond the administrative limits of the city, has a population of 1.4 million (2011) in an area of 389 km² (150 sq mi), making it the second-largest urban area in Portugal. Porto Metropolitan Area, on the other hand, includes an estimated 1.8 million people. It is recognized as a Gamma-level global city by the Globalization and World Cities (GaWC) Study Group, the only Portuguese city besides Lisbon to be recognised as a global city.

Located along the Douro river estuary in Northern Portugal, Porto is one of the oldest European centres, and its historical core was proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996. The western part of its urban area extends to the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean. Its settlement dates back many centuries, when it was an outpost of the Roman Empire. Its combined Celtic-Latin name, Portus Cale, has been referred to as the origin of the name "Portugal", based on transliteration and oral evolution from Latin. In Portuguese, the name of the city is spelled with a definite article ("o Porto"; English: the port). Consequently, its English name evolved from a misinterpretation of the oral pronunciation and referred to as Oporto in modern literature and by many speakers.

Porto District

The District of Porto (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈpoɾtu], Portuguese: Distrito do Porto), is located on the north-west coast of Portugal. The district capital is the city of Porto, the second largest city in the country. It is bordered by the Aveiro and Viseu districts to the south, Braga district to the north and Vila Real district to the east. Its area is 2395 km² and its population is 1,781,826.

Some municipalities include one or more cities;the municipality of Paredes has the most cities within its municipality: Paredes, Gandra, Rebordosa and São Salvador de Lordelo. Other cities in Porto district: Rio Tinto and Valbom (in Gondomar municipality), Ermesinde (in Valongo municipality), São Mamede de Infesta (in Matosinhos municipality), Freamunde (in Paços de Ferreira municipality) and Lixa (in Felgueiras municipality).

Porto de Sanabria

Porto de Sanabria (Galician: Porto de Seabra; Leonese: Porto de Senabria), also known as Porto, is a municipality located in the province of Zamora, Castile and León, Spain. According to the 2012 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 216 inhabitants.

Geography

Porto is located near the borders of Castile and León with Galicia, in the Sanabria Lake Natural Park, nearby the Galician Massif. It is 90 km far from Bragança, in Portugal, 113 from Ponferrada, and 171 from Zamora. Its municipal territory counts several lakes, reservoirs and rivers.

Culture

Porto is one of the few bilingual places of its province, in which is commonly spoken both Spanish and Galician.

Príncipe

Príncipe is the smaller, northern major island of the country of São Tomé and Príncipe lying off the west coast of Africa. It has an area of 136 square kilometres (53 sq mi) and a population of approximately 5,000. The island is a heavily eroded volcano speculated to be over three million years old, surrounded by smaller islands including Ilheu Bom Bom, Ilhéu Caroço, Tinhosa Grande and Tinhosa Pequena. Part of the Cameroon Line archipelago, Príncipe rises in the south to 948 metres at Pico de Príncipe, in a thickly forested area forming part of the Obo National Park.

The island was uninhabited when discovered by the Portuguese and named "Príncipe" (Prince's island) in honor of Afonso, Prince of Portugal, his father's favorite. Subsequently, the north and centre of the island were made into plantations, most of them formed by Portuguese colonialists using slave labor. These concentrated initially on producing sugar and later on cocoa, becoming the world's greatest cocoa producer. Since independence, these plantations have largely reverted to forest.

Príncipe Province is one of the two provinces of São Tomé and Príncipe. Since 1995 has been an autonomous region of the twin island republic of São Tomé and Príncipe. The province includes several small uninhabited islands around the island of Príncipe. The Obo National Park covers the part of the area. Principe province has a school or collegiates (colegio), a lyceum (middle schools), churches, beaches, a port and a few squares (praças).

Príncipe (Ceuta)

Príncipe (Spanish: Barrio del Príncipe, Barrio del Príncipe Alfonso) is a working-class neighborhood in the south of the Spanish exclave city of Ceuta in northwest Africa. It has a majority Muslim population. It is linked to the centre of Ceuta by the N-352 highway, which also goes south to the border crossing with Morocco.

Ceuta's University Hospital is in this neighbourhood.

The television series El Príncipe is set in Principe.
