The 13th Annual Marine Corps Association & Foundation C4 Awards Dinner was held on Thursday, 21 April 2016, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA. Guests and award recipients came to honor excellence in the C4 community. LtGen John E. Wissler, Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command; and Commanding General, Fleet Marine Forces, Atlantic, was the guest speaker at the event sponsored by MCA&F; and hosted by BrigGen Dennis A. Crall, Diretor, C4/Chief Information Officer of the Marine Corps. The recipients for the 13th Annual MCA&F; C4 Awards Dinner are: Captain Richard S. Clay is the recipient of the 2015 General Alfred M. Gray Trophy for Outstanding Communications Leadership. Cpt Clay commissioned in 2009 after graduating from St. Olaf College. He, most recently, helped establish the MARFOREUR/AF Cyberspace Operations Working Group, along with helping bridge a divide between traditional cyberspace indications and warnings that could potentially impact MARFOREUR/AF forces. Mr. Niklas P. Mecchi-Ericson is the recipient of the 2015 James Hamilton Information Technology Management Civilian Marine of the Year Award. Mr. Mecchi-Ericson was commissioned in 2001 and transferred to the Marine Corps Reserve in 2007. He is currently the Director for Regional Network Operations and Security Center Pacific. He improved MARFORPACs cyber intelligence and event situational awareness through the development of Cyber Common Operational Picture. His efforts improved the reliability of USMC networks across the region. Sergeant Johnathan E. Hanna is the recipient of the 2015 PFC Herbert A. Littleton Noncommissioned Officer Trophy for Operational Communications Excellence. Sgt Hanna completed recruit trianing in 2012 and currently serves as a Cyber Network Operator, Marine Wing Communications Squadron 19, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. He provides his support to accomplish pre-deployment network builds and develops updated WAN router, switch and firewall templates for future deployments. Staff Sergeant Casey A. McCarthy is the recipient of the 2015 PFC Herbert A. Littleton Staff Noncommissioned Officer Trophy for Operational Communications Excellence. SSgt McCarthy completed recruit training in 2007 and currently serves at the Marine Corps Network Operations and Security Command (MCNOSC). He contributed to the success of every Marine Expeditionary Unit’s final integration testing of Command and Control capabilities. Sergeant Christopher J. Burkard is the recipient of the 2015 PFC Herbert A. Littleton Noncommissioned Officer Trophy for Electronics Maintenance Excellence. Sgt Burkard completed recruit training in 2011, after graduating from Michigan State University. He is currently assigned to Communications Company, Headquarters Battalion, 2d Marine Logistics Group. He served with Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Crisis Response Africa in the S-6 where he supported and coordinated the maintenance and transfer of communications equipment between bases in three countries and to Theater Security Cooperation Teams operating in seven countries across Africa. Staff Sergeant John W. Candler is the recipient of the 2015 PFC Herbert A. Littleton Staff Noncommissioned Officer Trophy for Electronics Maintenance Excellence. SSgt Candler completed recruit training in 1999 and is currently serving with Communications Company, Headquarters Regiment, 3d Marine Logistics Group. In 2015, he supervised the validation of the line replaceable units for the Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) owned by the repairable issue point establishing advanced test procedures to further improve the ratio of “no fault found” submissions, saving the Marine Corps thousands of dollars. Communications Platoon 4th Marine Regiment is the recipient of the 2015 Lieutenant Colonel Kevin M. Shea Memorial Unit of the Year Award. Fourth Marines Comm Platoon supported nine Forward Deployed Battalions, a garrison help desk, Marine Rotational Force-Darwin, three off-island exercises and facilitated 36 Training and Exercise Employment Plan (TEEP) exercises in 2015.
