Late one evening in Taichung city, a 9 year old boy walked into a police station leading his two younger siblings, ages 5 and 7. The three children had a single suitcase and a note with a phone number and the name of their grandfather.
The police officer at the desk asks the three children where their parents were and the eldest brother responded that their parents had gone off to die.
Shocked, the police began interviewing the three children. The older brother was able to draw the logo of the car their parents had rented and police began tracking both the parents’ phones.
They were able to track the couple to a remote mountain location where they discovered the husband and wife had taken overdoses of amphetamines and had also run a hose from the exhaust pipe of their car to pump carbon monoxide into the passenger compartment.
Luckily both were rushed to hospital where they are now in stable condition.
In the meantime, the three children will be sent to live with their grandfather anyway while their parents recover.

Lagos, Nigeria - The boy was abandoned by his family, who accused him of being a witch, according to the aid worker who found him in Uyo, southeast Nigeria. Danish aid worker Anja Ringgren Loven says the boy, whom she calls Hope, had been living on the streets and survived on scraps from passersby. When she found him, she says, he was riddled with worms and had to have daily blood transfusions to revive him.
"Thousands of children are being accused of being witches and we've both seen torture of children, dead children and frightened children," she wrote in Danish on Facebook, as she appealed for funds to pay for food, medical bills and schooling.
Loven is the founder of African Children's Aid Education and Development Foundation, which she created to rescue children labeled as witches.
Posting on her Facebook page on February 12, Loven says: "Hope is getting so much better. Already gaining a lot of weight and looking so much more healthy. Now we only need him to talk.
"But that will come naturally when he is out of the hospital and starting his life among all our children.
"Children become stronger together."
It is a criminal offense in Akwa Ibom state, where Hope was found, to label a child a witch, but the practice persists.
Attempts to reach Loven and local officials were not immediately successful.
Belief in witchcraft thrives worldwide. In 2009, about 1,000 people accused of being witches in Gambia were locked in detention centers in March and forced to drink a dangerous hallucinogenic potion, human rights organization Amnesty International said.
In 2014, a report by the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees stated that human rights violations were taking place in Nepal, leading to violence against women, children, disabled people and the elderly.
In 2010, CNN reported on the plight of children in Nigeria who undergo frightening exorcisms and are sometimes killed by their own family.
One 5-year-old boy, named Godswill, had been accused of being a witch and neglected, beaten and ostracized by his own family and community. At the time, an Akwa Ibom state official acknowledged some cases, but said reports of child rescues were exaggerated.
Sam Ikpe-Itauma, of the local Child's Rights and Rehabilitation Network, which rescues children like Godswill, told CNN: "Once a child is said to be a witch, to be possessed with a certain spiritual spell capable of making that child transform into, like, cat, snake viper ... a child could cause all sorts of havoc like killing of people, bringing about diseases, misfortune into family."
Ikpe-Itauma doesn't believe in witchcraft and tries to raise awareness in communities gripped by hysteria. He believes poverty is a key factor that drives the belief in witchcraft. He says: "Poverty is actually a twin sister to ignorance."

Police are looking for the parents of a newborn baby which was left abandoned in a cloth tote bag.
Doctors estimate that the baby is no more than 7 days old, as the umbilical cord is still attached. The baby boy is in good health, despite being left overnight in the rain.
An elderly woman spotted the red tote bag shoved halfway beneath the wheels of a parked car. She assumed it was a bag of trash, but when she went to kick it out from underneath the car, a small hand reached out of the half closed bag and the baby began crying.
The woman immediately called emergency services, which rushed the baby to the hospital.
Doctors say that the baby boy is healthy and lucky, the tote bag was half filled with rainwater and if left out in the rain much longer the newborn risked drowning.

Child abandonment
Child abandonment is the practice of relinquishing interests and claims over one's offspring in an extralegal way with the intent of never again resuming or reasserting them. Causes include many social and cultural factors as well as mental illness. An abandoned child is called a foundling (as opposed to a runaway or an orphan). Baby dumping refers to parents abandoning or discarding a child younger than 12 months in a public or private place with the intent of disposing of them. It is also known as rehoming, an act still legal in Arkansas where state legislator Justin Harris made national headlines by rehoming two young adopted children.
Causes
Poverty is often a root cause of child abandonment. People in cultures with poor social welfare systems who are not financially capable of taking care of a child are more likely to abandon them. Political conditions, such as difficulty in adoption proceedings, may also contribute to child abandonment, as can the lack of institutions, such as orphanages, to take in children whom their parents cannot support.

Short film
A short film is any film not long enough to be considered a feature film. Although no consensus exists as to where that boundary is drawn, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as "an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits". The term featurette originally applied to a film longer than a short subject, but shorter than a standard feature film.
The increasingly rare term short subject means approximately the same thing. An industry term, it carries more of an assumption that the film is shown as part of a presentation along with a feature film. Short is an abbreviation for either term. Short films are often screened at local, national, or international film festivals and made by independent filmmakers for non profit, either with a low budget or no budget at all. They are usually funded by film grants, non profit organizations, sponsor, or personal funds. Short films are generally used by filmmakers to gain experience and/or prove their talent in order to gain funding for future films from private investors, entertainment companies, or film studios.

Hayley Warner
Hayley Warner (born January 23, 1992) is an Australian born singer and songwriter. She has become known for her carefully crafted lyrics and melodies. In 2009, she finished as runner-up in the seventh and final Australian Idol, and was noted for her high-energy performances and vast vocal range. In 2013, The Daily Telegraph named Warner as one of Australia’s most accomplished songwriters. Warner's songwriting credits total over 11 times platinum in sales worldwide. Hayley co-wrote Grammy nominated artist Tori Kelly's single "Hollow" that was released November 3, 2015. After moving to Los Angeles, Warner signed a worldwide publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music in 2015.
Life and career
Early life
As a young child, Warner was incredibly passionate about sports and set her sights on becoming the best, but at the age of seven, she was diagnosed with Perthes disease which stripped her of her sporting dreams and forced her to learn to walk again. Through her struggle, music quickly became her therapy and true calling. When she was just twelve years old she started her first band, Cloud 9. From the ages of twelve to sixteen, she performed at 500 different venues around Australia.

Our Children
Our Children (French: À perdre la raison) is a 2012 Belgian-French psychological drama film directed by Joachim Lafosse. It is based on a real-life incident involving a woman (Genevieve Lhermitte), who killed her five children. The film competed in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival under the title Loving Without Reason, where Émilie Dequenne won the Un Certain Regard Award for Best Actress.

Reception
Critical response was generally strong and the film was nominated for seven Magritte Awards, winning four, including Best Film and Best Director for Lafosse. The film was selected as the Belgian entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards, but it did not make the final shortlist.
The Hollywood Reporter wrote, "In one of her strongest leading roles to date, Dequenne (The Girl on the Train, Rosetta) does a remarkable job depicting Murielle’s wavering psychological states as she heads for oblivion, and an extended sequence-shot where she drives home while singing a Julien Clerc song is particularly unforgettable."

Lagos, Nigeria - The boy was abandoned by his family, who accused him of being a witch, according to the aid worker who found him in Uyo, southeast Nigeria. Danish aid worker Anja Ringgren Loven says the boy, whom she calls Hope, had been living on the streets and survived on scraps from passersby. When she found him, she says, he was riddled with worms and had to have daily blood transfusions to revive him. "Thousands of children are being accused of being witches and we've both seen torture of children, dead children and frightened children," she wrote in Danish on Facebook, as she appealed for funds to pay for food, medical bills and schooling. Loven is the founder of African Children's Aid Education and Development Foundation, which she created to rescue children labeled as witches. Posting on her Facebook page on February 12, Loven says: "Hope is getting so much better. Already gaining a lot of weight and looking so much more healthy. Now we only need him to talk. "But that will come naturally when he is out of the hospital and starting his life among all our children. "Children become stronger together." It is a criminal offense in Akwa Ibom state, where Hope was found, to label a child a witch, but the practice persists. Attempts to reach Loven and local officials were not immediately successful. Belief in witchcraft thrives worldwide. In 2009, about 1,000 people accused of being witches in Gambia were locked in detention centers in March and forced to drink a dangerous hallucinogenic potion, human rights organization Amnesty International said. In 2014, a report by the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees stated that human rights violations were taking place in Nepal, leading to violence against women, children, disabled people and the elderly. In 2010, CNN reported on the plight of children in Nigeria who undergo frightening exorcisms and are sometimes killed by their own family. One 5-year-old boy, named Godswill, had been accused of being a witch and neglected, beaten and ostracized by his own family and community. At the time, an Akwa Ibom state official acknowledged some cases, but said reports of child rescues were exaggerated. Sam Ikpe-Itauma, of the local Child's Rights and Rehabilitation Network, which rescues children like Godswill, told CNN: "Once a child is said to be a witch, to be possessed with a certain spiritual spell capable of making that child transform into, like, cat, snake viper ... a child could cause all sorts of havoc like killing of people, bringing about diseases, misfortune into family." Ikpe-Itauma doesn't believe in witchcraft and tries to raise awareness in communities gripped by hysteria. He believes poverty is a key factor that drives the belief in witchcraft. He says: "Poverty is actually a twin sister to ignorance." -

The baby boy is in good health, despite being left overnight in the rain. An elderly woman spotted the red tote bag shoved halfway beneath the wheels of a parked car. She assumed it was a bag of trash, but when she went to kick it out from underneath the car, a small hand reached out of the half closed bag and the baby began crying. The woman immediately called emergency services, which rushed the baby to the hospital. They were able to track the couple to a remote mountain location where they discovered the husband and wife had taken overdoses of amphetamines and had also run a hose from the exhaust pipe of their car to pump carbon monoxide into the passenger compartment.
Luckily both were rushed to hospital where they are now in stable condition.
In the meantime, the three children will be sent to live with their grandfather anyway while their parents recover.

They were able to track the couple to a remote mountain location where they discovered the husband and wife had taken overdoses of amphetamines and had also run a hose from the exhaust pipe of their car to pump carbon monoxide into the passenger compartment.
Luckily both were rushed to hospital where they are now in stable condition.
In the meantime, the three children will be sent to live with their grandfather anyway while their parents recover.

Lagos, Nigeria - The boy was abandoned by his family, who accused him of being a witch, according to the aid worker who found him in Uyo, southeast Nigeria. Danish aid worker Anja Ringgren Loven says the boy, whom she calls Hope, had been living on the streets and survived on scraps from passersby. When she found him, she says, he was riddled with worms and had to have daily blood transfusions to revive him.
"Thousands of children are being accused of being witches and we've both seen torture of children, dead children and frightened children," she wrote in Danish on Facebook, as she appealed for funds to pay for food, medical bills and schooling.
Loven is the founder of African Children's Aid Education and Development Foundation, which she created to rescue children labeled as witches.
Posting on her Facebook page on February 12, Loven says: "Hope is getting so much better. Already gaining a lot of weight and looking so much more healthy. Now we only need him to talk.
"But that will come naturally when he is out of the hospital and starting his life among all our children.
"Children become stronger together."
It is a criminal offense in Akwa Ibom state, where Hope was found, to label a child a witch, but the practice persists.
Attempts to reach Loven and local officials were not immediately successful.
Belief in witchcraft thrives worldwide. In 2009, about 1,000 people accused of being witches in Gambia were locked in detention centers in March and forced to drink a dangerous hallucinogenic potion, human rights organization Amnesty International said.
In 2014, a report by the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees stated that human rights violations were taking place in Nepal, leading to violence against women, children, disabled people and the elderly.
In 2010, CNN reported on the plight of children in Nigeria who undergo frightening exorcisms and are sometimes killed by their own family.
One 5-year-old boy, named Godswill, had been accused of being a witch and neglected, beaten and ostracized by his own family and community. At the time, an Akwa Ibom state official acknowledged some cases, but said reports of child rescues were exaggerated.
Sam Ikpe-Itauma, of the local Child's Rights and Rehabilitation Network, which rescues children like Godswill, told CNN: "Once a child is said to be a witch, to be possessed with a certain spiritual spell capable of making that child transform into, like, cat, snake viper ... a child could cause all sorts of havoc like killing of people, bringing about diseases, misfortune into family."
Ikpe-Itauma doesn't believe in witchcraft and tries to raise awareness in communities gripped by hysteria. He believes poverty is a key factor that drives the belief in witchcraft. He says: "Poverty is actually a twin sister to ignorance."

Doctors estimate that the baby is no more than 7 days old, as the umbilical cord is still attached. The baby boy is in good health, despite being left overnight in the rain.
An elderly woman spotted the red tote bag shoved halfway beneath the wheels of a parked car. She assumed it was a bag of trash, but when she went to kick it out from underneath the car, a small hand reached out of the half closed bag and the baby began crying.
The woman immediately called emergency services, which rushed the baby to the hospital.
Doctors say that the baby boy is healthy and lucky, the tote bag was half filled with rainwater and if left out in the rain much longer the newborn risked drowning.

The film ends showcasing some of the real-life issues of abandoned children and the misery they face in their day to day lives."
