The power to act on "sus" was found in part of section 4 of the Vagrancy Act 1824, which provided that:
every suspected person or reputed thief, frequenting any river, canal, or navigable stream, dock, or basin, or any quay, wharf, or warehouse near or adjoining thereto, or any street, highway, or avenue leading thereto, or any place of public resort, or any avenue leading thereto, or any street, or any highway or any place adjacent to a street or highway; with intent to commit an arrestable offence
—section 4, Vagrancy Act 1824
"shall be deemed a rogue and vagabond" and would be guilty of an offence, and be liable to be imprisoned for up to three months. This effectively permitted the police to stop and search, and even arrest, anyone found in a public place on the grounds that they suspected that they might intend to commit an offence.
In order to bring a prosecution under the Act, the police had to prove that the defendant had committed two acts:
the first, that established them as a "suspected person" (by acting suspiciously), and
the second, that provided intent to commit an arrestable offence.
Two witnesses were required to substantiate the charge, which was usually two police officers patrolling together.
The law caused much discontent among certain sections of the population, particularly black and ethnic minority communities, against whom the police use of the law was particularly targeted . The sus law had attracted considerable controversy prior to the early 1980s race riots (in St Pauls, Bristol, in 1980, and in Brixton, London, Toxteth, Liverpool, Handsworth, Birmingham and Chapeltown, Leeds in 1981). In 1980, the House of Commons' Sub-Committee on Race Relations and Immigration had began hearings into the law. In the case of the race riots, its alleged abuse was believed to be a contributory factor to these events.The sus law was repealed on 27 August 1981, on the advice of the 1979 Royal Commission on Criminal Procedure,when the Criminal Attempts Act 1981 received Royal Assent .

Did you know that somewhere in America, it is illegal to feed the homeless in public? It can’t be true can it? It is true in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after the recent passage of an ordinance by the city council. The real scary part of that news is that Fort Lauderdale is not alone in taking this anti-compassionate stance!
“Over 30 cities across the nation have outlawed or are considering criminalizing the provision of food to homeless people. According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, over 20 cities have devised laws against giving food to homeless people since January 2013.” Nation of Change
While I can understand this stance if these cities are adding health guidelines to make such feeding attempts safer, I am shocked that over 30 cities have outlawed it or are considering outlawing the practice of giving food to the hungry and homeless. Are public picnics next on the hit list?
Why would any city want to stop the feeding of the homeless in public? Just who are these brigands who are trying to destroy the city of Fort Lauderdale by having the audacity to feed the hungry?
“In an act of compassion and civil disobedience, a 90-year-old man and two pastors in Fort Lauderdale openly defied a new city ordinance barring anyone from feeding homeless people in public. After police intervened and charged them with a crime, 90-year-old Arnold Abbott and Pastor Dwayne Black returned several days later to break the draconian law again. Although Abbott received another citation, police decided not to place him in custody.
Last Sunday, Arnold Abbott, Pastor Dwayne Black of The Sanctuary Church in Fort Lauderdale, and Mark Sims of St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church in Coral Springs fed homeless people in a public park in South Florida two days after the city passed a new ordinance outlawing the provision of food to vagrants in public. After getting arrested, the two pastors and elderly homeless advocate each face a $500 fine and up to 60 days in jail.
“One of the police officers said, ‘Drop that plate right now,’ as if I were carrying a weapon,” recalled Abbott. “It’s man’s inhumanity to man is all it is.”

Did you know that somewhere in America, it is illegal to feed the homeless in public? It can’t be true can it? It is true in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after the recent passage of an ordinance by the city council. The real scary part of that news is that Fort Lauderdale is not alone in taking this anti-compassionate stance!
“Over 30 cities across the nation have outlawed or are considering criminalizing the provision of food to homeless people. According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, over 20 cities have devised laws against giving food to homeless people since January 2013.” Nation of Change
While I can understand this stance if these cities are adding health guidelines to make such feeding attempts safer, I am shocked that over 30 cities have outlawed it or are considering outlawing the practice of giving food to the hungry and homeless. Are public picnics next on the hit list?
Why would any city want to stop the feeding of the homeless in public? Just who are these brigands who are trying to destroy the city of Fort Lauderdale by having the audacity to feed the hungry?
“In an act of compassion and civil disobedience, a 90-year-old man and two pastors in Fort Lauderdale openly defied a new city ordinance barring anyone from feeding homeless people in public. After police intervened and charged them with a crime, 90-year-old Arnold Abbott and Pastor Dwayne Black returned several days later to break the draconian law again. Although Abbott received another citation, police decided not to place him in custody.
Last Sunday, Arnold Abbott, Pastor Dwayne Black of The Sanctuary Church in Fort Lauderdale, and Mark Sims of St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church in Coral Springs fed homeless people in a public park in South Florida two days after the city passed a new ordinance outlawing the provision of food to vagrants in public. After getting arrested, the two pastors and elderly homeless advocate each face a $500 fine and up to 60 days in jail.
“One of the police officers said, ‘Drop that plate right now,’ as if I were carrying a weapon,” recalled Abbott. “It’s man’s inhumanity to man is all it is.”

High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, UK 9th April 2016 The English Defence League held an anti-Islam demonstration in High Wycombe. The EDL marched from the High Wycombe train station to Frogmoor in the town centre where several speakers addressed the group. Counter-protesters attempted to confront the EDL but were held back by Police. Three people were arrested on suspicion of public order offences and one person was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

This was Shriya Saran's debut Malayalam film.The film was dubbed in Tamil as Raja Pokiri Raja. It is being remade in Hindi as Boss.
The film revolves around Madhavan Nair who unknowingly kills a teenager and his eldest son, Raja, takes the blame and is sentenced to jail for five years. After returning from jail, Raja moves to Madurai and there he rescues the life of the daughter of Maniannai, the village land lord and then Raja turns his right hand and he is named as Madurai Raja. Years later, he started being known as Pokkiri Raja.
Meanwhile Surya, the younger son of Madhavan Nair, is a young energetic and educated naughty guy who is well famous for his rowdisim in his village. He is sent to Ernakulam to his brother-in-law Sugunan to change his character, who is a scaredy cat. At Ernakulam, Surya falls in love with Aswathy unknowing that she is the daughter of the City Police Commissioner. Sugunan used to take advantage of the character of Surya and sent him in his uniform to take care of some severe police cases. Surya gets arrested for this offence. The commissioner finds that Surya is in love with his daughter and charges Surya with another drugs case and makes it a non-bailable offence. Meanwhile the commissioner plans to murder Surya in jail and gives the contract to Pokkiri Raja for 5 million. At this point, Madhavan Nair goes to Madurai in search of his elder son who left for Madurai 10 years back and finds that Pokkiri Raja is his elder son and asks for his help to rescue his younger son Surya.meanwhile Raja understands that surya is his own brother and they both play a drama before the commissioner.Surya escapes from there and Raja comes to their home.Aswathy's marriage is fixed with minister's son.Using Raja's tricks,suriya and Aswathy get engaged. Then Surya is again trapped by the commissioner.Raja makes him to escape and his father is told that it was him who killed the teenager and it was not done by Raja.His father accepts him.Both Raja and the commissioner fixes the marriage at the same time and Ashwathy comes to Surya's home.On the day of marriage,Surya is kiddnapped by the commissioner and asks Raja to bring Ashwathy to their marriage hall.When Ashwathy is brought there,Surya ties the 'thali' on Ashwathy.Actually Raja had already given the thali to Surya previous day.Then both beat the rowdies and they succeed.
