Allied Joint Force Command Lisbon Video
As a maritime European city that looks westward towards the Americas, Lisbon embodies the transatlantic tradition. Lisbon with relation to NATO reminds the NATO's Lisbon Summit which was dedicated to recognising new security challenges, agreeing courses of action to address them and NATO's commitment to a continuing process of self-reform for a new NATO Command Structure that will be more effective, affordable, and deployable on operations. The new Structure represents a significant reduction in the number of military headquarters, including the deactivation of Allied Joint Force Command Lisbon, or JFC Lisbon.
The NATO command in Lisbon, with changing names, roles and responsibilities, has been a mirror to the transformation efforts within NATO, of "NATO in Portugal" and of "Portugal in NATO"
After 45 years in Portugal, NATO continues to benefit from its association with a nation that continues to look over the horizon. With the transition of STRIKFORNATO and the NATO Communications and Information Systems School to Oeiras, this trans-Atlantic city continues its tradition of standing with Allies for peace and security.

Winnefeld has had a distinguished career, in which he served with three fighter squadrons flying the F-14 Tomcat, and as an instructor at the Navy Fighter Weapons School.Winnefeld’s unit commands at sea include Fighter Squadron 211, USS Cleveland (LPD 7), and USS Enterprise (CVN 65). He led “Big E” through her 18th deployment, which included combat operations in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom immediately after the terrorist acts of Sept. 11, 2001. As Commander, Carrier Strike Group Two/Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group, he led Task Forces 50, 152, and 58 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and maritime interception operations in the Arabian Gulf. The AgustaWestland AW101 is a medium-lift helicopter used in both military and civil applications. It was developed by a joint venture between Westland Helicopters in the UK and Agusta in Italy in response to national requirements for a modern naval utility helicopter. Several operators, including the armed forces of Britain, Denmark, Norway and Portugal, use the name Merlin for their AW101 aircraft.[2][3] It is manufactured at factories in Yeovil, England and Vergiate, Italy; licensed assembly work has also taken place in Japan and the United States.
Prior to 2007, the aircraft had been marketed under the designation EH101. The original designation was EHI 01 but a transcription error of a handwritten note changed this to EH101 and the designation stuck.[4] In 2000, Westland Helicopters and Agusta merged to form AgustaWestland, leading to the type's redesignation as AW101. The AW101 first flew in 1987, and entered into service in 1999. Since the AW101's introduction, it has replaced several older helicopter types, such as the Sikorsky S-61, performing roles such as medium-sized transport, anti-submarine warfare, and ship-based utility operations.
The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) operates a variant of the AW101, designated CH-149 Cormorant, in the air-sea rescue role. Another variant, designated VH-71 Kestrel, was developed to serve in the US presidential transport fleet; however, the program was cancelled. Civil operators also use AW101s in roles such as passenger and VIP transportation. The type has been deployed to active combat theatres, such as in support of coalition forces during the Iraq War and the War in Afghanistan.

A federal judge based in San Francisco, Calif. ruled last week two Starbucks customers may pursue a lawsuit accusing the coffee chain of cheating patrons by underselling lattes, Reuters reported.U.S. District Judge Shelton Henderson said the California plaintiffs may seek damages from Starbucks in their proposed nationwide class action, including fraud and false advertising charges....
